Abstract

DNA-polyamine composition for treating lesions caused by radiation. Compns. are prepared by dissolving dioxyri bonucleic acid (DNA) and a basic amine or amino-acid separately in dilute sodium chloride solution opt. containing sodium citrate, mixing the two solutions at 37 degrees C for 6-36 hrs. and at pH 7, adding ethanol and recovering the precipitate formed by centrifuging. Suitable amines and amino-acids are spermine, spermidine, cadaverine, polylysine and polyarginine. The compositions may be used to cure lesions caused by radiation e.g. white corpuscle destruction and can be used to treat secondary effects in the X-ray and gamma-ray treatments for cancer.
