La came 12 présente deux sommets 16 et 17 dont la distance par rapport à l'axe de rotation du rotor est égale et maximum et deux sommets 18 et 19 dont la distance par rapport à l'axe de rotation du rotor est égale et minimum, ladite came animant les pistons 5, lors de la rotation du rotor 1, d'un mouvement alternatif de manière à ce que l'espace libre 20 de chacune des chambres 3 compris entre le piston 5 et la paroi interne 21 du stator 2 atteigne alternati- vement un maximum et un minimum par quart de tour du rotor 1, cet espace libre entre le piston 5 et la paroi interne 21 susdite étant maximum (fin d'aspiration) lor.;

<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

A piston 5 is mounted in a sleeve 6 housed in each of the chambers 3, retaining rings 7 and an oil scraper ring 8 being provided on the pistons 5.
These pistons 5 are joined in pairs by two parallel connecting rods 9 pivoting freely, at each of their ends, around shafts 10 integral with the pistons 5, these shafts 10 having their axis parallel to the axis of rotation 4 of the rotor. , the connecting rods 9 constituting a deformable quadrilateral 11. The translational movement of the pistons 5 in the liners 6 is controlled from a fixed cam 12 cooperating with a roller 13 consisting, for example, of a needle bearing and mounted so as to be able to rotate freely, on each of the aforementioned shafts 10. Cam 12 has two mutually perpendicular planes of symmetry of traces 14 and 15 (FIG. 4), the intersection of these planes of symmetry being coincident with the axis of rotation 4 of the rotor.
The cam 12 has two vertices 16 and 17 whose distance from the axis of rotation of the rotor is equal and maximum and two vertices 18 and 19 whose distance from the axis of rotation of the rotor is equal and minimum, said cam driving the pistons 5, during the rotation of the rotor 1, with a reciprocating movement so that the free space 20 of each of the chambers 3 between the piston 5 and the internal wall 21 of the stator 2 reaches alternating - Event a maximum and a minimum per quarter turn of the rotor 1, this free space between the piston 5 and the aforementioned internal wall 21 being maximum (end of suction) lor .;

To avoid the impact of the rollers on the cam 12, the latter is profiled in such a way that ('{\ la the distance separating each of the points of the intersection of the rolling track-of the cam, by a plane perpendicular to the axis of the rotor, of the axis of the cam, that is to say of the intersection of the planes of symmetry of traces 14 and 15, increases continuously to pass from a minimum to a maximum and continuously decreases to pass from a maximum to a minimum, the deformable prism, each of the edges of which is determined by the line of contact of each of the rollers 13 with the rolling path of the cam, being, whatever the position of the rollers inscribed in the cylinder determined by the rolling path of the cam 12.
The stator 2 consists of a hollow cylinder 22 in which the rotor 1 rotates, coaxial with the cylinder, and into which open a suction line 23 and an exhaust line 24, an ignition plug 25 being provided. on said cylinder 22. The rotor 1 rotates according to the arrow 26 and the discharge port 27 is arranged so that, when a chamber 3 approaches this port, the space 20 between the piston and the wall internal stator 21 is maximum, this space being minimum when said chamber and the exhaust port are no longer in communication.
The distance between the neighboring ends of the lumen 27 and the suction light 28 is substantially equal to the diameter of the chambers 3, the lumen

suction 28 being arranged so that when a chair 3 approaches it, the aforesaid space 20 is substantially minimum and maximum when said chamber is no longer in communication with the suction lumen.
The spark plug 25 is disposed in the cylinder 22 at a place corresponding substantially to the place where the space 20 of a chamber 3 is minimum after this chamber has been placed in communication with the lumen of. 'suction 28, that is to say when the air-fuel mixture has reached its maximum compression, said spark plug igniting this mixture when the piston 4 of said chamber 3 has passed its equilibrium position, in the direction of the arrow 26, and that its axis is located outside the plane passing through the vertices 16 and 17 of the cam 12 and on the side of this plane directed in the direction of rotation of the rotor 1, the pressure resulting from the explosion of the mixture in the chamber 3 subjecting the piston 5 of this chamber to a resulting force, along the axis of the latter, producing a torque whose moment around the axis 4 of the rotor and the cylinder 22,
causes this piston and the rotor 1 to rotate along the arrow 26 around this axis 4. The hollow cylinder 22 is closed, at its two ends, by flanges 29 and 30 each having an opening whose axis coincides with the axis 4 of the cylinder 22. An axis 31, at the end of which is mounted, fixed, the cam 12, is held immobile, by a part 32, in the opening 33 of the flange 29, the opening 34 of the flange 30 providing passage to the power shaft 35 of the motor.
The rotor 1 is cylindrical and consists of two cylindrical parts 36 and 37 placed end to end and assembled to each other using bolts 38. Each of these two parts 36 and 37 is hollowed out, from its face destined to
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
come into contact with the corresponding face of the other part, so as to provide the four chambers 3 and a free space 39 in which the connecting rods 9 and the cam 12 are arranged, the part 36 of the rotor having an opening 40 allowing the libro passage of the shaft 31, the power shaft 35 of the motor being integral with the part 37 of the rotor, the axes of the shaft 31 and of the shaft 35 being coincident with the axis 4 of the rotor. The aforementioned liners 6 are arranged in the cylindrical chambers 3 and held in the latter when the parts 36 and 37 of the rotor are bolted one on the other.
Each of the zones 41 of the rotor 1 is lined with three segments 42, regularly spaced from one another, ensuring perfect cohesion between the four chambers 3 of the motor. These segments are housed in grooves 43 formed, parallel to the axis of the rotor, in each of the parts 36 and 37 constituting the last case, said segments being, when the rotor rotates, applied against the internal surface 21 of the stator. by centrifugal force. The seal between the chambers 3 of the motor is further advantageously reinforced by providing, on the aforesaid parts of the rotor 1, annular projections 49 cooperating with corresponding grooves 50 made in the flanges 29 and 30 of the stator 2.
Perfect lubrication of the engine is ensured by means of channels 44 formed, so as to admit oil between each of the moving parts, in the shaft 31, in the cam 12 and in the parts 36 and 37 of the rotor, the oil pressure in the engine being provided by a pump, not shown, driven by the latter,
The motor is cooled by a fluid whose circulation is ensured in the stator by a pump, not shown.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
driven by the motor. Said fluid circulates in two annular grooves 45 made in the aforesaid hollow cylinder 22, these grooves communicating with each other by pipes 46.
Ball bearings 47 are advantageously provided, to reduce friction, between part 36 of the rotor and the flange 29 of the stator as well as between the force shaft 35 and the flange 30 of said stator, a seal 48 being provided in the flange 30 to ensure the seal between the latter and the drive shaft 35 of the motor.
In the engine according to the invention and shown in the drawings, which comprises four chambers, four successive explosions occur per complete revolution of rotor 1, a conventional four-stroke engine requiring, for the same number of explosions, 8. shaft revolutions while a conventional two-stroke engine requires, for 4 explosions, 4 shaft revolutions. It follows that the theoretical efficiency of the engine according to the invention is 8 times greater than that of a conventional 4-stroke engine or 4 times greater than that of a conventional two-stroke engine having the same stroke of the pistons and the same bore of the combustion chambers.
The engine according to the invention has the advantage, thanks to the control of the reciprocating movement of the pistons 5 by the cam 12 and the connecting rods 9 forming the deformable quadrilateral 11, of allowing a great reduction in the inertia forces at the dead points of the cam, the pistons 5, although animated by a reciprocating movement, are no longer subjected to sudden stops at the end of the stroke and can be driven at a linear speed greater than the linear speed admitted for the pistons of a conventional motor, in fact, these stops limiting, in conventional motors and on pain of rupture, the linear speed of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
pistons and this, due to inertial forces acting on their connecting rod,
this reciprocating movement of the pistons produced by the continual variations of the angles of the aforesaid deformable quadrilateral, these variations being caused by the rotation of the rollers 13 rolling without stopping on the cam 12, allowing the continuity of the rotational movement of the rotor, by driving, and thereby avoiding any danger of: rupture due to a high linear speed of the pistons 5.
The piston control and guidance system, using the connecting rods 9, avoids the exaggerated lateral friction of the pistons in the liners 6. In fact, each of the pistons 5 is perfectly guided, along its axis, by four connecting rods 9 which absorb: the kinetic energy of the pistons resulting from the combustion and transmit it to the rollers 13 which, in turn, distribute the total force over the entire development of the cam 12.
The motor according to the invention also has the advantage of offering, thanks to the fact that the rotor and the stator are concentric, large contact zones 41 between these two 616- elements, these contact zones, provided with segments. , 42, making it possible to ensure excellent gas and oil tightness between the chambers 3, the protrusions 49 of the rotor cooperating with the grooves 50 of the stator further improving this tightness.
The elimination in this engine of any eccentric member of the stator allows excellent operation of the engine at all speeds, while the absence of gears, valves, rockers, springs, etc. chains, crankshafts, etc., make it possible to considerably reduce the resistance resulting, in conventional engines and known rotary engines, from the use of these components.
The timing and exhaust adjustment of the

gas, the determination of the stroke values of the pistons 5, as well as the realization of the engine cycle is obtained thanks to the profile of the cam 12, this one offering the great advantage of allowing the elimination of the delicate and long operation necessary, in conventional engines, to adjust the distribution. In fact, in the engine according to the invention, the cam 12 allows the automatic adjustment of the distribution, that is to say the instants of opening and closing of the gas intake and evacuation ports. , this adjustment being obtained by simple movement, around its axis, of the shaft 31 carrying the cam 12, either according to the arrow 51 for the advance, or according to the arrow 52 for the delay.
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described and that many modifications can be made to the latter without departing from the scope of the present patent.
In particular, in order to obtain an engine in which eight explosions occur per revolution of the rotor, provision could be made for two rotors provided with four chambers 3, these rotors being offset, one being placed side by side in a stator. with respect to the other and around their axis, by 45, the cams controlling the pistons 5 of these rotors also being offset by 45 with respect to one another.
