Raccord d'étanchéité.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Sealing connection.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention relates to a sealing connection between a plastic pipe and a pipe element which are an extension of one another, this connection comprising a sealing ring mounted on the pipe and clamped between , on the one hand, a sleeve which surrounds this pipe and connects said pipe to the pipe element and, on the other hand, a flange surrounding this pipe.
In the remainder of this specification, the expression “pipe element” designates a pipe or a pipe accessory (a valve for example).
Known sealing connections between two pipes which have the same outside diameter and which are an extension of one another, comprise, on the one hand, two sealing rings mounted respectively around these two pipes and, on the other hand, a metal sleeve, generally made of cast iron, mounted around these two pipes, between these two sealing rings. The two sealing rings are clamped between the metal sleeve and two flanges mounted respectively around the two pipes and assembled to each other by bolts and nuts.
These known sealing connections have the disadvantage of opposing the expansion of the two assembled pipes. For this reason, they cannot be used for the assembly of large-sized pipes, made of a material having a high coefficient of expansion, for example polyethylene.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Furthermore, the assembly of pipes by a connector of this type is very rigid, which may present a certain disadvantage in the case of installations subjected to vibrations.
Finally, the presence of the aforesaid metal sleeve can present drawbacks, in the case of pipes containing corrosive fluids.
The sealing connection according to the invention overcomes these drawbacks. To this end, the sleeve is made of synthetic material similar or identical to the aforementioned synthetic material and the flange comprises, on the one hand, a sleeve which surrounds the sealing ring and at least part of the sleeve and, on the other hand , a rim which retains this sealing ring against this sleeve, the latter bearing against the sleeve so as not to be deformed under the effect of the pressure of the fluid in the piping and thus be able to have a sufficient length to allow expansion of the pipe and the piping element.
The fact of using a sleeve of synthetic material similar or identical to that in which the aforesaid pipe is made has the advantage of limiting the risk of this sleeve being damaged by a corrosive fluid present in the pipe.
In addition, the sleeve of the flange, which surrounds the sealing ring and the sleeve reinforces the connection and in particular allows the use of very long sleeves.

Features and details of the invention will emerge from the following description of two embodiments of the sealing connection according to the invention. This description is given by way of example and does not limit the scope of the invention. It is given with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows a section, along the axis of a pipe, of a first embodiment of the sealing connector according to the invention, connecting this pipe to a pipe accessory; - Figure 2 shows a section, along the axis of a pipe, of a second embodiment of the sealing connector according to the invention, connecting co pipe to another pipe.
In these figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.
According to Figure 1, the sealing connector 1 according to the invention connects a pipe 2 made of synthetic material, such as polyethylene, to a pipe accessory 3 partially shown, located in the extension of the pipe 2. This pipe accessory Pipe 3 is for example a valve.
The sealing connection 1 comprises a sealing ring 4 mounted around the pipe 2. This sealing ring 4 is made of a flexible and elastic material, for example rubber. It is clamped between, on the one hand, a cylindrical sleeve 5 surrounding the pipe 2 and, on the other hand, an edge 6 of a flange 7.

the pipe 2 connects this pipe 2 to the piping accessory 3 and bears against the body of the latter by means of a collar 8. A seal 9 is advantageously disposed between the piping accessory 3 and the collar 8 of the sleeve 5.
The flange 7 comprises a sleeve 10 which is connected to the flange 6 and which surrounds the sealing ring 4 and the sleeve 5. The flange 7 further comprises a flange 11 by means of which this flange is assembled to the body of the flange. 'pipe accessory 3, via bolts 12 and nuts 13.
According to a second embodiment shown in Figure 2, of the sealing connection according to the invention, this sealing connection connects the pipe 2 to a second pipe, designated by the reference notation 14, located in the extension of the pipe 2 and having the same external diameter as this pipe. Like the pipe 2, this pipe 14 is made of synthetic material, for example polyethylene.
In Figure 2, the sealing connection comprises a first sealing ring 4 surrounding the pipe 2 and a second sealing ring 15 surrounding the pipe 14. These two sealing rings 4 and 15 are made of a material flexible and elastic, for example rubber. They are clamped between, on the one hand, a cylindrical sleeve 5 surrounding the two pipes 2 and 14 and, on the other hand, respectively a 'rim 6 and a rim 16 which are respectively part of a flange 7 and a flange 17.
The sleeve 5 is made of a synthetic material similar or identical to that of which the pipes 2 and 14 are made, for example of polyethylene. This sleeve 5 which surrounds the two pipes 2 and 14 connect these pipes to one another.
The flanges 7 and 17, which are similar, respectively comprise a sleeve 10 and a sleeve 18 which are
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
connected respectively to the rim 6 and to the rim 16 'and which, together, surround the sealing rings 4 and 15 and the sleeve 5. These flanges 7 and 17 further comprise, respectively, a collar 11 and a collar 19 by means of which these two flanges are assembled to each other, by means of bolts 12 and nuts 13.
In these two embodiments of the sealing connection according to the invention, the sleeve 5 bears against the sleeve (s) of the aforesaid flange (s), so as not to be deformed under the effect of the pressure of the fluid in the piping and thus be able to have a sufficient length to allow expansion of the pipe 2, on the one hand, and of the piping accessory 3 or of the pipe 14, on the other hand.
Furthermore, the sleeve 5 isolates the above-mentioned flange or flanges from the fluid in the piping. These flanges can therefore be made of metal.
The present invention is not limited to the embodiments described above and shown in the accompanying figures. Numbfeuses modifications can be made thereto, without departing from the scope of the following claims.
