<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Sulfonic esters and their preparation.
The present invention relates to novel sūlfon esters corresponding to the general formula 1
EMI1.1
in which R represents an alkyl residue containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms or a phenyl residue optionally bearing a substituent s.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention also relates to a process for preparing these novel compounds, which process is performed. - dense a trityl halide with N.N-diethanolamine and reacting the N-trityl-N.N-diethanolamine thus obtained, which corresponds to formula 11
EMI2.1
with activated sulphonic acids of general formula 11.
EMI2.2
in which R has the meaning indicated above, The activation of the sulfonic acids is carried out, for example, by conversion, into a halide or a diacid armydride or by reaction with dicyclohexyl-carbodiimide,
The following commentary describes in more detail an advantageous way of carrying out the process of the invention.
A trityl halide, for example triphenylchloromethane, is dissolved in a solvent inert under the reaction conditions, for example in methylene chloride, ethylene chloride, chloroform or acetone, and reacting at 0 with diethanolamine used in excess or in the presence of a tertiary base. After carrying out the usual additional treatment, approximately 0 the N-triphenyl-methyl-diethanolamine obtained is reacted with an activated derivative of an acid.

sulfonic acid, for example with a sulfonic acid halide or a sulfonic acid anhydride, in the presence of a tertiary base, or alternatively with the reaction product of a sulfonic acid with dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, then the mixture is left to stand. all at room temperature for 24 hours.
The N-triphenylmethyl- N.N-bis- (2-alkyl- or phenyl-sulionyloxy-ethyl) -amine obtained in this way is then purified by known methods.
The new compounds corresponding to the general formula 1 are alkylating substances (radiomimetics); they are characterized by enhanced cytostatic properties with which only low toxicity is associated. They are suitable for the treatment of malignant tumors and sarcomas. They are more particularly indicated for the treatment of neoplasms of the lymphatic and myeloid systems, also for other diseases, in particular the immunological syndrome whose evolution is accompanied by a troublesome cell multiplication. But they also constitute intermediates for the synthesis of other sulfonic esters of N.N-diethanolamine having cytostatic activity.
The sulfonic esters of general formula 1 can be used as medicaments, either alone or in dosage forms suitable for administration by the enteral or parenteral route. In order to prepare suitable dosage forms, these active substances are worked with inorganic or organic excipients which are inert from a pharmacological point of view. As excipients, it is possible to use for example: for tablets and dragees: lactose, starch, talc, etc., for syrups: solutions of sucrose, invert sugar, glucose, etc.,

for injectable preparations: water, alcohols, glycerol) vegetable oils, etc., for suppositories: natural or hardened oils, waxes, etc.
The preparations may therefore contain preservatives, stabilizers, wetting agents, dissolving aids, sweeteners, colors, flavorings, etc.
Daily doses preferably between 10 and 500 mg will be prescribed.
The following examples illustrate the present invention without in any way limiting its scope. The temperatures are all expressed in degrees Celsius.
EXAMPLE 1: a) N-triphenylmethyl-diethanolamine.
168 g of triphenyl-chloromethane are dissolved in 300 ml. of absolute methylene chloride and is added dropwise to the solution at a temperature of 0.126 g of a solution of diethanolamine which is clearly distilled in 600 ml of dimethylformamide. The whole is left to stand at 0 for 24 hours and evaporated to dryness. The residue is dissolved in 1000 ml of diethyl ether and washed with water. After that the ether phase is washed with saturated sodium chloride solution, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated. During concentration, a precipitate appears. This is separated by filtration and then the product is recrystallized from a mixture of chloroform and petroleum ether.
We obtain N-triphenyl-
