<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>

<EMI ID=6.1>
<EMI ID=7.1>
<EMI ID=8.1>

<EMI ID=10.1>

<EMI ID=12.1>

"New N-phenyl-benzamides useful in the treatment of inflammation and pain in mammals" The present invention relates to new N-phenylbenzamides useful in the treatment of inflammation and pain these = mammals, as well than a process for their manufacture and that of their intermediaries. More specifically, the invention relates to compounds corresponding to the following general formula:
<EMI ID = 1.1>
<EMI ID = 2.1>
independently a hydrogen or a halogen or a methyl or trifluoromethyl group.
The following compounds are characteristic of the formula
<EMI ID = 3.1>
The above compounds have been found to exert anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity and are effective in inhibiting edema formation, as well as in the analgesic hot plate test. As a result of these pharmacological properties, they are generally administered orally in tablets or capsules or suspensions for the treatment of inflammation and pain of mammals, including humans. The optimal dosage of the compounds corresponding to the general formula (I) depends on the particular compound used and
the type and severity of the condition to be treated. Although the optimal amounts to be used depend on the compound used, the particular type of disease being treated, the species, the sex and the age of the patient, levels of daily oral doses of preferred compounds of the order of 0, 5 to 150 mg per kilogram of weight are useful for the control of the states, depending on the activity of the specific compound and the sensitivity to the patient's reaction.

invention can be prepared by the reaction of a substituted aniline with 2-acyloxybenzoyl chloride or from the following type of intermediate (II):
<EMI ID = 5.1>
<EMI ID = 6.1>
The first process is developed according to the following scheme:
<EMI ID = 7.1>
<EMI ID = 8.1>
The 2-acyloxybenzoyl (III) chloride used in the first process can be obtained by reacting 2-ncy-

pension in an inert anhydrous solvent. The reaction can be carried out at room temperature or at the reflux temperature of the solvent, normally between room temperature and
65 [deg.] C. The compound obtained is purified by crystallization from a mixture of solvents consisting of chloroform and petroleum ether (1/20). The reaction between 2-acyloxybenzoyl chloride (III) and substituted aniline (IV) is also carried out in an inert anhydrous solvent in which the reactants and the compound formed of formula I are soluble. Examples of these solvents are benzene, toluene, xylene, chloroform, dichloromethane and the like. The proportion of bodies in reaction, i.e. 2-acyloxybenzoyl chloride and aniline, can be varied according to a molar ratio of 1/2 to
<EMI ID = 10.1>
of proton by forming aniline hydrochloride. The reaction can be carried out in a temperature range between 40 and 120 [deg.] C, preferably between 60 and 100 [deg.] C. The compound formed of the general formula I is separated from the reaction mixture, while filtering
and evaporating the solvent previously and recrystallizing the residue with an aliphatic alcohol such as methanol, ethanol, isopropanol and the like or a mixture of these alcohols
with water.
The second process for preparing the compounds corresponding to the general formula (I) consists of acylation of the intermediates
<EMI ID = 11.1>
reaction is carried out by mixing the compounds of the formula
(II) with an excess of aliphatic acid anhydride in the presence of a catalyst such as sulfuric acid. The reaction temperature can be varied, i.e. be between
<EMI ID = 12.1>
tick3 lower.
The intermediates of formula (II) can be obtained according to the same process (first process) for the synthesis of the new N-phenylbenzamides, that is to say by reacting 2-hydroxybenzoyl chloride with the corresponding substituted aniline of the formula (V). The solvents and the reaction conditions are similar to those applied to obtain the compound of general formula (I). The intermediaries of
the formula (II) are separated by adding distilled water to the reaction mixture, agitating the two-phase system until the compound obtained forms a homogeneous suspension, then cooling and filtering.
