<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
C'est donc à simple titre d'exemple, sans aucun caractère limitatif, que les caractéristiques essentielles de l'invention sont,dans une ferme de réalisation,décrites ci-après en se référant aux dessins annexés dans lesquels: la figure 1 schématisa les éléments essentiels con- stituant un dispositif de projection selon l'invention; les figures 2, 3 et 4 schématisent des variantes du dispositif de mise sous pression et d'évacuation du produit à projecter; la figure 5 représente, en vue de face avec coupe partielle,la partie supérieure d'un récipient à deux compar- timents; la figure 6 est une coupe selon la ligne VI-VI de la figure 5; la figure 7 est une coupe semblable à la figure 6 mais par un récipient à trois compartiments;
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
tibles d'être alimentés par le dispositif faisant l'objet de l'invention; la figure 16 représente, en vue de face avec coupe partielle, un dispositif de mise sous pression aménagé con- formément à 1'une des caractéristiques essentielles de l'invention; la figure 17 représente,en vue de face avec coupe partielle, une variante d'exécution d'un dispositif de mise sous pression;
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>
<Desc/Clms Page number 17>
<Desc/Clms Page number 18>
<Desc/Clms Page number 19>

This invention relates to the problem of. projection of all kinds of liquid, semi-liquid and pulverulent materials, and more specifically relates to a relatively very simple device forming a new combination of which the most expensive elements can be reused, the relatively very cheap elements possibly being discarded ' or destroyed after use.
It is useful to remember that, for the projection of flowable materials, various means have already been proposed.
A first means is illustrated by the so-called siphon or sparlclet bottles, in which the liquid medium, generally water, is evacuated under pressure by the release
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
C02 gas from a small, conveniently opened cylinder,
This very old means has traditionally been used to pour the liquid medium directly into drinking vessels. The bottles or receptacles, receptacle heads, etc., are specially designed and produced with regard to this function.
Another means, which has also been recommended for many years, consists in producing a pressurizing device comprising a housing for the pressurized gas cylinder, a dip tube, a device for timely opening of said cylinder and a release mechanism. lever to conveniently release the passage of the liquid medium.
Such a device is specially conditioned to be fixed on a fully closed container into which the said dip tube penetrates, so as to be able to deliver the liquid medium contained in the said container under pressure.
In general, this device is also used in direct relation and only with a completely closed container for a very similar purpose to that of the pre-recalled siphon or sparklet, but more especially intended for the flow of beer under pressure.
Very recently, this fundamental idea has been taken up on different sides by making certain important modifications, in particular to constantly balance the pressure in the receptacle. Nevertheless, the targeted applications remain focused on the direct flow of a beverage into a drinking vessel.
Finally, over the last twenty years, the so-called aerosol devices have also been considerably developed, while this technique essentially results from atomization or spraying and not to simple projection.

tion.
The present invention is aimed at a much wider field and substantially other than the filling of drinking vessels. Indeed, this invention provides a solution in the extremely broad technique of spraying all kinds of liquid, semi-liquid or pulverulent products, in particular in the field of coating any coating.

For this purpose, the device of the invention is constituted substantially by the combination of a fully closed container of a known type although specially conditioned in proportion to this particular application, of a pressurizing device, of at least one exhaust duct of indeterminate length and of a controlled shutter nozzle, the shape and dimensions of which are duly determined in proportion to the work to be performed, this combination being such that, in a preferred embodiment, said exhaust duct can be completely cleared after completion of a job, the pressure can also be reduced to zero in the event that an unemptied container has to be separated from the pressurizing device,
By this combination,
new equipment is produced. calf allowing a practically unlimited flow of material, with the same installation, the empty container being able to be replaced almost instantly by a filled container.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The receptacle is, according to one characteristic of the invention, constituted by a simple box, can or small metal barrel produced according to traditional means, except nea - less to be adapted in its execution and in its internal lining, of in such a way as to be able to withstand external pressure, handling, possible overpressures and chemical reactions with the contents.
Nevertheless, such a container can: be produced in large series in the traditional cylindrical form by automated means so that, having regard to the relatively considerable throughput envisaged, the cost prices can be reduced to the strict minimum.
Or.le comfort and economy in the implementation of the device of the invention are directly dependent on the good packaging and the low cost of the container expected that, generally, it will be single use, however all the other parts of the container. the installation are mainly for reuse,
In a preferred embodiment, this container will be in the form of a cylindrical box of variable capacity, of two, three, five, ten liters, etc., of the type with fixed bottom and top, generally secured to the body. cylindrical by crimping with the interposition of a seal, the thickness of the metal, the execution and, in particular, the crimping being carried out taking into account the foreseeable internal pressures of the container.
The interior lining will essentially be variable in proportion to the products that it is called upon to contain in order to avoid chemical reactions between container and content.
The pressurizing device itself is essentially variable, which may or may not be with isobarometric adjustment device, it being understood that its purpose is to introduce, into the receptacle, on the mirror of the medium to be projected, sufficient pressure to make progress
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the product at sufficient speed in the discharge duct to the outlet of the projection mouth.
Because of the different possible formats of the recommended cylindrical boxes, but nevertheless of standardized capacity, for economical manufacturing needs, this pressurizing device will preferably include a fixing means of adjustable length, respectively adaptable to the diameter of the container.
In this regard, it is possible either to provide the pressurizing device with different radial arms of different lengths, in proportion to the diameter of the different capacities provided for in the program for the manufacture of cans, or to provide such arms of different lengths, but removable so that they can be conveniently placed in the service position, or finally co / carry such extensible radial arms, respectively retractable, so as to be able to be adapted to the diameter of the container in question.
Such variable-length arms could, in this case, be easily produced, each by two sections, one fixed and the other slidable, a fixing means being provided to energetically join these two constituent sections,
Their adaptation can be considerably simplified and activated by the presence of a set of marks and indices prorated in proportion to the various diameters envisaged, so that depending on each of these, said arms can be lengthened or shortened almost instantly for correct length setting, the mark of one section being brought under visual control in front of the correlative index of the other section.
This significant improvement of such pressurizing devices makes it possible to make them more comfortable while maintaining a unique model, which contributes to the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
comfort and economy of the device of the invention.
Said pressurizing device could also be conditioned so that it immediately presents a plurality of discharge conduits, each of these being, moreover, provided with a shutter, for example a windshield or plug. screwed ,. This arrangement has the advantage of being able to use a single or a plurality of projection points, which also contributes to better efficiency of the device of the invention. Indeed, the unused evacuation ducts would be kept blocked, which would have no precise influence on the evacuation duct actually put into service.
This plurality of evacuation conduits, respectively of projection points, is also advantageous in that it is possible, from the same device, to produce, in different places, protections of a different nature on a pro rata basis. the conformation and characteristics of the outlet nozzles equipping the free end of the conduit connecting the receptacle to the projection locations.
It would be possible to replace such a pressurizing device having several evacuation ducts with a device with a single evacuation duct, but by providing, between said single evacuation duct and the pipe ending at the point. projection, a special connecting piece comprising a plurality of duly oriented nozzles, each of them being closed by a suitable shutter, for example also by a windshield or screw cap.
It is possible to envisage the execution and the implementation of a single type of such fittings with a maximum predetermined number of discharge nozzles. Or it is possible to envisage a set of such connecting pieces in the form of a fork, of a T, of a cross or any other suitable shape, in proportion to the number of projection lines to be implemented.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Whatever the embodiment and the new characteristics disclosed herein, adopted for the pressurizing device, its lever can advantageously be used as a means of opening or closing the discharge duct to the pipe or pipes terminating. at the projection points. In this regard, one could advantageously consider being able to wedge said lever, at will, either in the closed position or in the open position, the product being prevented from being projected inadvertently., The mouth of the projection pipe (s) being normally closed by the element which controls it and which may itself be of essentially variable type, shape and even effect.
One of the characteristics of the invention relates precisely to the cooperation, respectively the combination :, in the same projection device, on the one hand, a pressurizing device projected onto a tank in the form of a single to double box. crimped bottom ,. and, on the other hand, a projection mouth duly controlled by an operating member, said pressurizing device and said projection mouthpiece being joined by a duct, generally, but not exclusively, a flexible duct, of undetermined length.
Finally, said projection member can, according to the invention, be constituted by an opening or outlet proper of any suitable shape and size and by a shutter which can be operated at will by the user.
Because of the desired projection effect, the maneuver essentially consists of 4'assuring the opening and, respectively, the closing of said projection member. In this regard, any kind of lever, push button, button or other operating device can be used.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
easily accessible.
As for the output itself, it may be cylindrical, convergent, divergent in appearance.
In a preferred embodiment, the conduit, generally a flexible pipe, may be terminated by a rigid end piece to which can be fixed by friction, screwing, bayonet joint or the like, a mouth or terminal outlet in such a manner. that the user can have at his disposal a set of such terminal elements making it possible, from the same device, to carry out a vast work program of projection of all kinds and of all appropriate products.
In another characteristic embodiment, it will be possible to start from a container or cylindrical box of the above-described type, duly divided into two or more than two chambers, each of them being intended to receive a different product in view:! to automatically carry out the projection of said different products, either thereby mutually combined or mixed.
Such an operation could be applied for various purposes, either for special coatings, 9 or to achieve various mixtures or combinations, or even to create reactions giving rise to particular textures. In this case, of course, the pressurizing device will include as many dip tubes as there are compartments. The intimate mixing of different products can be done either in a special turbulence chamber provided in said pressure device. pressurization, either along the path in the projection line, or still in line with the terminal projection device itself. The latter can be shaped so as to ensure an energetic mixing of the different products as well
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
simultaneously conveyed.
Or else a special chamber placed upstream of the terminal mouth could be arranged in order to create the turbulence deemed necessary for the desired result.
As can be seen, the new combination according to the invention can be implemented in very different forms, so that the resulting device can be adapted to practically any problem at short or long distance and this at various purposes.
It is therefore by way of simple example, without any limiting nature, that the essential characteristics of the invention are, in a firm embodiment, described below with reference to the appended drawings in which: FIG. essential elements constituting a projection device according to the invention; FIGS. 2, 3 and 4 show schematically variants of the device for pressurizing and discharging the product to be sprayed; FIG. 5 shows, in front view in partial section, the upper part of a container with two compartments; Figure 6 is a section along the line VI-VI of Figure 5; Figure 7 is a section similar to Figure 6 but through a container with three compartments;

Figure 18 is a section along the line XVIII-XVIII of Figure 17.
In accordance with FIG. 1, the device of the invention is produced substantially by the combination of a container formed by a simple cylindrical box 1 with a fixed bottom and top, respectively 2-3, of a pressurizing device. reported 4, at least one duct 5, generally a flexible pipe, of an indeterminate length .. and a terminal projection device 6, each of these elements being arranged to meet the conditions of the device of the invention.
The receptacle 1 is generally metallic but is obviously capable of being made of any suitable material; it will preferably be formed from said cylindrical body 1 with cap 2 and bottom 3 of the type having a cylindrical rim engaged in said cylindrical body 1 and fixed thereto by crimping with the interposition of an elastic or plastic seal, the whole executed in such a way. to present good resistance in order to avoid any detrimental deformation under the effects of internal pressure as well as during normal transport and handling.
This completely closed container can be compartmentalized in particular for a better distribution of the product.
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
produced when the device has several projection points, or if it is envisaged, from the same device, to simultaneously project two products of a different nature.
For this purpose, the container 3¯ is, for example, compartmentalized by a diametral wall? (figures 5-6). Or the container 1 could be compartmentalized by a practically indeterminate number of radial partitions.
Figure 7 shows schematically the division into three compartments by such radial partitions 8-9-10.
This technique of compartmentalizing containers for spraying devices can substantially extend the field of application of these devices both for the simultaneous coating of several materials of different nature and for obtaining mixing, emulsifying or other similar operations. The cap 3, with a view to the introduction of the withdrawal tube from the pressurizing device, can be arranged so as to have one or more orifices temporarily closed by a plug which can be removed or capable of being crossed by said pressure tube. racking.
The shutter can itself be packaged so as to form the seat of the fixing part of the draw-off tube, which can moreover be achieved by applying, for example, on a smaller scale, the device traditionally used in racking canes, in particular in drinking establishments.
The pressurizing device 4 will preferably be of the type comprising, in combination, a housing for a small cylinder of pressurized gas, a means for suitably perforating one of the ends of this cylinder in order to release the gas, means for admitting gas to the container in a controlled manner and means for admitting
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
the controlled departure of the liquid, semi-liquid or pulverulent material contained in the container.
Such devices in different forms have already been used to ensure the flow of pressurized beer., However, generally the projection and spraying problems will be very different, especially when it comes to the projection of relatively dense material. or curable or thickening on standing and in general, when dealing with products capable of obstructing the flexible generally of relatively small diameter used in the context of the present invention.
In these particular cases but likely to be very frequent, the pressurizing device is, according to the invention, conditioned so as to be able to suitably orient the pressurized gas along a path different from that which, normally take it to the container.
With a view to solving the problem relating to the possible obstruction of the flexible hose, said pressurizing device will be conditioned in ... so as to be able, opportunely and by a very simple operation, to direct the pressurized gas towards the origin of the gas. flexible in order to remove its content after completion of a job,
The same means could be used to rapidly bring the internal pressure of the vessel to zero. Or one could make use of a special maneuver bringing about a direct communication between the pressure chamber and the atmosphere.
This comfortable and rapid operation will be necessary each time one wishes to separate a pressurizing device from its container, for example in order to be able to apply it to another container.
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
FIG. 16 schematically shows such an embodiment of a pressurizing device. It consists, in this case, of a hollow lever 11 forming a housing for a pressurized gas cylinder and a cap 12, the bottom of which carries, in the known manner, a needle which, under the effect of screwing said cap, can easily pierce the corresponding end of the cylinder in order to release the pressurized gas. This lever 11 forms the operating handle of a core 13 housed in a chapel 14.
The latter is extended by a bursting body 15 crossed right through by a channel 16 extended by the draw-off tube 17, the length of which is such that, when the pressurizing device is fixed to a single container, said draw-off tube extends to a very short distance from the bottom of the container, Said body 15 is also crossed by a channel opening it, on the one hand, into said chapel 2:. !!. and, on the other hand, in a lower annular chamber 19, the inner cylindrical wall 20 of which surrounds the corresponding part of the withdrawal tube 17 at a short distance and has at least one orifice 21.
Said channel 18 is connected with the hollow part of the lever 11 by suitable passages of the core 13 and a duct 22 when said lever 11 is in the position indicated in FIG. 16. On the other hand, the chapel 14 comprises a tubing 23 on which is fixed, by any suitable means, the discharge tube, generally a flexible 5. In the position shown in FIG. 16, said tube 5 is directly connected to the withdrawal tube 17 by the channel 24 of the core .
On the other hand, the origin of the tubing 22 is connected by a passage 25 to the aforesaid hollow lever 11, this passage being however only released for a second position of the core 13, that is to say also of the lever 11,
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
second position in which the passage between the tubular elements 5-17 is interrupted,
Such a pressure device is capable of being fixed on any box 1 by at least one elastic cross member 26, the base of the body 15 bearing on a relatively elastic shutter 27 fixed, in this case, in the central part of the sky ¯ 3 of the container.
This arrangement results in that, in the position shown in FIG. 16, the pressurized gas, in general the Co2, coming from the hollow lever, passes through the core 13, the channel 18, reaches the annular chamber 19, passes through the or the orifices 21 and thus finally reaches the interior of the container 1. By the pressure exerted on the contents of this container, generally a flowable material, the latter is forced into the draw-off tube 17, passes through the core 13 and is discharged through conduit 5.
When the work is finished or if it is desired to bring the internal pressure of the container to zero, it suffices to bring the lever 11 to its second position, bringing about direct communication between the interior of the lever 11 and the orifice of the tube. 5, so that it is completely empty of any material it could contain or which would line the interior wall,
By this same means, it is also possible to reduce the internal pressure of the container to zero.
These different characteristics can be implemented in obviously very different forms, so that the protection device can be duly adapted to each particular application.
In Figures 17 and 18, there is shown, by way of example and with a view to showing this general character, another embodiment in which the hollow lever 11 forming, in cooperation with the tank 12, the housing of the cylinder.
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
of gas under pressure, is fixed. This lever 11 is made integral with the body 28 of a shutter 29, the axial passage of which
30 lower extended by the draw-off duct 17 is controlled by a needle 31 operable by a knurled button 32, such a shutter being well known per se.
Said axial passage 30 opens into a chamber 33 into which also opens the tubing 23 to which is connected the discharge duct 5. The aforesaid body 28 of the shutter also has, downwards, the aforesaid annular chamber. 19 delimited centrally by a tubular wall 20 in which is provided at least one orifice 21 putting said annular chamber 19 in relation to the interior of the container 1. In this embodiment, there is also the fixing cross member 26 and the shutter in elastic material 27.
In addition, the aforesaid body 28 of the shutter is traversed right through by a channel 34 in which is engaged with gentle friction a slide 35 provided, on one side, with an operating button 36 and extended; by its other end., by a duct 37 putting it in communication with the interior of the hollow lever 11. This drawer 35 has a peripheral groove 38 whose bottom comprises at least one orifice 39 communicating with an axial channel. 40, itself extended by the aforesaid tube 37.
On either side of said peripheral groove 38 are provided with two beads or sealing segments 41.
The channel 34 is permanently connected with the aforesaid annular chamber 19 by a transverse passage 42. Said slide 35 is permanently biased by a return spring 43 in the position indicated in FIG. 18, that is to say in a position such that the peripheral groove 38 is opposite the transverse passage 42, which establishes direct communication between the pressure chamber inside
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
of the lever 11 and the interior of the container 1. However, as long as the needle 31 closes the axial passage 30, the contents of said container are prevented from leaving through the exhaust duct 5.
Finally, the transverse passage 34 of the shutter body also comprises a complementary evacuation channel 44 extended by a conduit 45 leading to a transverse passage 46 provided at the origin of the tubing 23. This communication 40-45-46 is arranged in such a way that, for a position of the drawer 35, the latter closes the entrance to said passage 40 while, for another position of the drawer resulting from its adequate operation by the button 36, the peripheral groove 38 is placed opposite said passage 40, thus automatically establishing communication between the pressurized interior of the lever 11 and the origin of the discharge duct 5.
Consequently, in order to evacuate the contents of the container by protection, it suffices, in this embodiment, to operate the needle 31 by turning the knurled knob 32 in the appropriate direction. The material under pressure contained in the container 1 is automatically evacuated by the valve. duct 5. to stop this evacuation, it suffices to turn said knurled knob 32 in the opposite direction. On the other hand, if one wishes either to release the evacuation duct of its contents or of the materials which would remain adhering to its inner wall , it will suffice, in this case, after having closed the needle 31, to pull the button 36 of the spool 35 against the action of the return spring 43.
Automatically, the origin of the duct 5 is placed in communication with the pressurized chamber of the lever 11 and the gas flowing directly to the origin of the duct 5 pushes, through the latter, any material which is hole therein. - ve, Similarly, the internal pressure of the receptacle 1 can be reduced to zero, given that for this purpose it is sufficient to
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
along said cleaning maneuver until complete emptying of the cylinder, respectively of the spaces of the pressurized gas container.
Independently of these characteristics specific to pressurizing arrangements, it will be observed that the invention can still be applied in very diverse forms by using accessory equipment considerably extending the field of applications.
As shown diagrammatically in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4, it is possible, from the same container 1 and the same pressurizing device 4, to produce projections of material simultaneously in different places. In this regard, it will be possible, for example as shown diagrammatically in FIGS. 2 and 3, from a pressurizing device having a plurality of discharge ducts 5, which can be put into service either individually, or collectively, or in any combination, the conduits temporarily disconnected being blocked by a windshield or cover 47.
Or, as shown diagrammatically in FIG. 4, it is possible to start from a pressurizing device 4 with a single exhaust duct, but on this one can conveniently connect a connecting element 48 whose number of branches is essential. - highly variable. Thus, this connecting element may have a T-shape, an X-shape or a star shape with an indeterminate number of branches. Also in this embodiment, the branches or passages not used can be blocked by a windshield or cover by any other suitable means.
With a view to making the use of the device of the invention more convenient, the latter also provides for temporarily joining to the container 1 additional equipment which facilitates handling, hooking or
<Desc / Clms Page number 18>
the port by the user,
Such complementary equipment has been schematized, by way of example, in FIGS. 8, 9, 10 and 11. It is important, in this regard, not to alter the characteristics or the industrial manufacturing conditions of the container 1 produced. previously said. This implies the advantage of having a complementary team of receptacles capable of being easily attached, respectively separated from the single-load receptacle 1.
According to the invention, it is recommended to use a belt 49 capable of being energetically fixed to the container 1, either by reason of an elastic pressure, or, as in the example shown diagrammatically in FIGS. 1 to 11, by a traditional buckle fastening. Thus, to this belt 49, can it easily be fixed either an anchor 50 (FIG. 8), or a suspension hook 51 (FIG. 9), or even elements 52-53 of a fastening belt (FIG. 10), or finally a shoulder strap 54 (Figure 11). By these simple means, one can doncrender the implementation of the device according to the invention extremely convenient, its equipment being chosen in proportion to the work to be performed.
As far as this work is concerned, it is also as numerous as it is variable and the evacuation devices can also be adapted to each particular case.
In the most general way, we can obviously use a simple nozzle or mouthpiece, the shape and dimensions of which are practically infinite and to be determined in proportion to the effects to be obtained. The actual spray can be checked either from the pressurizing device proper, or by means of a neighboring device or even forming part of the spout or the starting mouth.
<Desc / Clms Page number 19>
It is also possible to supply any type of device or additional equipment such as, for example, a metering device (figure 12), a sprayer (figure 13), a brush (figure 14), a coating roller (figure 15), etc ...
The field of applications can be further extended if we consider that all this additional equipment could be, as required, implemented for the projection of a single material, that is to say from a single draw-off tube 17 (Figures 1-2); or else, the simultaneous evacuation of two different materials), that is to say from a pressurizing device with two withdrawal tubes 17 (FIGS. 5-6); or even a plurality of different products with a corresponding number of draw-off tubes 17 (figure 7).
The invention relates to the projection device as disclosed herein. It extends to any accessory part or arrangement specially intended for this device.
CLAIMS. l.- Device for the projection of ligui-, semi-liquid and pulverulent materials, characterized in that it is constituted substantially by the combination of a completely closed container, of a pressurizing device of the type including a small pressurized gas cylinder, at least one exhaust duct of an indeterminate length and a mouth determined in proportion to the work to be performed.
