<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

The present invention relates to a curler for capsizing comprising a cylinder for winding a lock of hair and at least one rod for fixing the cylinder in the position of the rolled up lock.
It has already been proposed for setting a curler of the aforementioned type whose cylinder wall is pierced with holes receiving the rod which passed through the cylinder and is planted at the scalp.
It is understood that a device of this type offers the danger of stinging and injuring the scalp. In addition, with this known curler, the rod is placed slightly obliquely, so that only poor fixation of the rod in the rolled-up cylinder position is obtained.
Such a positive also requires the obligation to groping around on the cylinder for the appropriate hole hidden by the hair, which leads to a waste of time. It has also been observed that with such a curler, the rod tends to hide under the hair, which makes it difficult to withdraw this rod when unwinding.
Finally, the use of this previously known curler is limited to styling and may not be suitable for permanent. In fact, the holes made in the cylinder would allow the passage of the keratin reducing liquid, which makes posterior neutralization difficult.
In the case of making a perm, it was then proposed a sealed cylinder held on the wound hair by an elastic link, which axially surrounds the wound lock.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It has, however, been observed that a bond of this kind does not resist the product used for very long and, in addition, it risks leaving traces on the hair where it is applied.
Finally, the removal of this elastic tie, without damaging the crimp, requires skill.
The present invention relates to a curler which does not have these drawbacks and which can be used both for lukewarm or cold perm, and for styling.
According to the invention, the curler comprises a rod fixed to the end of a guide which slides axially inside the cylinder by resiliently clamping the rod against the hair wound on the outer wall of the cylinder. Thus, the rod is introduced parallel to the underlying scalp, which avoids injuring it, and is perpendicular to the coiled rod, which ensures that the cylinder is fixed over the entire width of the wick.
According to one feature, the aforesaid guide is rotatably mounted in the cylinder. Without removing the rod, we can continue the rotation of the cylinder up to the level of the scalp and tighten if necessary, the wick wound on the cylinder.
According to another characteristic, the guide has a length greater than that of the rod and is retained in the cylinder in the vicinity of its exit by a stop when the rod is axially separated from the wall of the cylinder. In this way, the rod remains integral with the cylinder when it is withdrawn therefrom and does not run the risk of getting lost.
According to yet another feature, the guide is introduced into the cylinder and is forcefully withdrawn therefrom by elastic deformation of the stop. This feature makes it possible to quickly separate the guide from the cylinder when it is desired to clean it or to replace one of the two parts.
According to another feature, the stop which retains the guide
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
cylinder is formed by an articulation ensuring between these two elements an angular movement in the position of the rod spaced from the wall of the cylinder.
Thus, in this position, the longitudinal bulk of the curler is reduced, which facilitates handling of the cylinder during the winding or unwinding of the lock of hair.
According to yet another feature, the guide is formed by a tongue.
In an advantageous embodiment, the articulation between the cylinder and the tongue is formed by a ring provided inside the cylinder in the vicinity of the outlet end of the tongue and by a part whose largest section has a cicular periphery provided on the end of the tongue, the outside diameter of this part being slightly greater than the inside diameter of the ring of the cylinder.
According to another characteristic, the width of the tongue is such that it allows an angular movement of approximately 90 with the cylinder when the rod is axially spaced from the wall of the cylinder.
Advantageously, the part having a section with a circular periphery provided on the tongue is a ring.
According to yet another feature, the cylinder has an identical ring at its two ends, so that it can receive and retain the end of the tongue by one or the other of its ends.
In another embodiment, the tongue is provided with a second rod parallel to the first, these two rods being connected to the tongue by a bar transverse to the latter.
Other features and details of the invention will become apparent during the description of the invention with reference to the drawings appended hereto, which represent schematically, and to
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
by way of example only, 2 embodiments of the invention,
FIG. 1 is a schematic view on a normal scale of a curler according to the invention, the two movable constituent parts of which are disassembled.
Figure 2 is a full scale schematic view of another embodiment of the curler in the disassembled position.
Figure 3 is a schematic view of the curler shown in Figure 2 in the assembled position of the two constituent parts, and
FIG. 4 is a schematic perspective view according to the embodiment of FIG. 2 in the position in which the two movable parts' constitutive form between them approximately a right angle.
In these figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.
As can be seen in Figure 1, the curler comprises a cylinder 1 for winding a lock of hair and a rod 2 for fixing the cylinder in the position of the wound lock.
This position is that illustrated for two rods in figure 3
The rod 2 is fixed to the end of a guide 3 which is able to slide axially inside the cylinder by resiliently clamping the rod 2 against the outer wall of the cylinder. To this end, the rod is spaced from the guide by a distance corresponding substantially to the thickness of the wall of the cylinder.
The guide 3 is rotatably mounted in the cylinder, so that the rod 2 is radially movable on the outer wall of the cylinder, which makes it possible to tighten the bit on the cylinder without removing the rod.
The guide 3 has a length greater than that of the rod 2 and is retained in the cylinder near its end 4 by a
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
stop when the rod is axially withdrawn from the wall of the cylinder. This stop is elastically deformable, making it possible to introduce the guide 3 into the cylinder and to remove it entirely from it under a slight pressure exerted on these elements.
As shown in Figure 4, this stop forms an articulation between the guide 3 and the cylinder 1, allowing angular movement between these two elements. This stop consists of 2 parts cooperating with each other, namely: a ring 5 provided inside the cylinder 1 in the vicinity of the end through which the guide exits and a part 6 provided with a section whose periphery is circulated. - area provided at the end of the guide 3.
The outer diameter of part 6 is larger than the inner diameter of ring 5.
Advantageously, part 6 is also a ring which could however consist of a disc, of a spherical, frustoconical or other geometric body, provided with a section whose periphery is circular, by which it is retained behind. the ylindre ring.
This guide 3 is formed of a tongue at the end of which is fixed the ring 6. The width of the tongue 3 is such that it allows an angular movement of about 90 when the rod 2 is axially remote from the cylinder wall 1 as shown in figure 4.
The tongue 3 is curved over its width and thus constitutes a housing for the index finger of the hand when the end of the tongue is grasped between the thumb and middle finger.
To facilitate gripping of the tongue, the latter is provided at its end opposite to that provided with the ring, with a transverse bar 7 on which the rod 2 is fixed.
In the embodiment of Figure 2, the tongue is provided with a second rod 8 parallel to the rod 2 and is fixed
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
like this one on the bar 7. These two rods form between them a stable base for the curler when it is placed on the scalp.
The bar 7 has at its ends gripping projections 9 and is curved at 10 in the extension of the curvature of the tongue.
The cylinder 1 has at its other end a second ring, not shown, identical to the ring 5, so as to be able to retain the tab in the cylinder by one or the other end thereof.
The wall of the cylinder 1 has roughness 11 facilitating the adhesion of the hair on the cylinder, and slowing down the rotational movement of the cylinder relative to the rod. These roughnesses are obtained by the intersection of helical grooves 12, which are practically circular, provided in the outer wall of the cylinder, and longitudinal grooves 13 parallel to the axis of the cylinder.
The longitudinal grooves 13 have a length and a depth such that their edges are able to form detents to prevent the inadvertent displacement of the cylinder relative to the rod and to adjust the tension of the hair wound on the cylinder.
In addition; the helical grooves 12 have a width and a depth such that they constitute a housing for a part of the coiled hair.
The longitudinal grooves 13 are obtained by mechanical abrasion. It has in fact been observed that the mechanical abrasion of these grooves gives the hair surprising adhesion to the cylinder without damaging them.
The ring 5 of the cylinder is made of an elastically deformable material under the action of pressure exerted by the ring
6, the larger diameter of which, provided on the tongue, allows
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
the engagement and disengagement by force of the ring 6 through the ring 5.
Advantageously, the constituent parts of the curler are obtained by molding, in a synthetic plastic material, colored in the mass, which is resistant to the compounds involved in the solutions for perms and styling.
The installation of the curler takes place as follows: A lock of hair is wound on the cylinder, the tongue is introduced laterally into the cylinder by forcing the ring through the ring of the cylinder and the rods are applied under the curler at the scalp, said rods clamping the wick, rolled up against the wall of the cylinder. After the perm or styling operation, the rods are removed axially from the wall of the cylinder and the tongue is placed angularly with respect to the cylinder, without it being necessary to detach it and the wick.
It is obvious that the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiment shown and that many modifications can be made in the form, the arrangement and the constitution of certain elements involved in its realization, without departing from the scope of the present invention, provided that such modifications are not inconsistent with the object of each of the following claims.
