Close preparation of 1-acyl-semicarbazides containing acid groups.
It is known to prepare urea derivatives containing acid groups by reaction of phenylcarbamic esters with monoamines (cf. German Patent No. 871,000). It is also known to prepare polyurea-sulfonic or -carboxylic acids and their salts to from the corresponding bis-phenylcarbamic esters and diamines (cf. German Patent No. 1,042,892).
It has now been discovered that 1-acyl-semicarbazides substituted in position 4 of the semicarbazide group are obtained when hydrazides of general formula t are reacted.

The phenylcarbamic esters of general formula II used for the reaction in accordance with the invention with the hydrazides of general formula I can, for example, be prepared by: reaction of the corresponding amino-carboxylic or aminosulfonic acids with phenyl chlorocarbonate by the method by Schotten-Baumann (cf. German patent N 871,000). @
Reaction of the hydrazides of general formula I with the phenylcarbamic esters of formula II to obtain the 1-acylsemicarbazides substituted in position 4 and bearing groups? acids, can be done in an organic solvent with substantially equivalent amounts of the constituents at elevated temperature.
Suitable solvents are polar substances, in particular water, dimethylformamide, dimethyloulfoxide, dimethylacetamide, tetramethylurea, dioxane, tetrahydrofuran, optionally as a mixture with, for example, toluene, dibutyl ether, glycol monomethyl ether acetate. The reaction of the constituents takes place at 30 - 150 * 0,
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
preferably at 70 - 110 C. The phenylarbamic esters of formula II can be employed as the free acids or as salts in the reaction. Particularly suitable are the ammonium, sodium, potassium and barium salts.
The isolation of the reaction products, namely 1-aoyl-semicarbazides with acid groups, substituted in position 4, can be carried out by crystallization. In many cases the reaction products already crystallize from the reaction mixture and can then be filtered off with suction. In the ; In the case of reaction products with high solubility, isolation can be carried out by precipitation with suitable solvents, for example with acetone.
Often the reaction products can also be isolated: in the form of free acids, which most of the time are more difficult to dissolve than the corresponding salts, for example by precipitation with dilute mineral acids such as hydrochloric acid or else with dilute organic acids such as acetic acid,
The products of the process can be used, for example, as medicaments, as optical brighteners and as intermediates for their preparation.
