" Dispositif de fermeture rapide ".-
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Quick closing device" .-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention relates to a rapid closing device for pressure vessels and other receptacles or chambers acted upon by internal or external pressure.
For closing pressurized enclosures, oval or round closing covers are usually used which are provided with flanges with recesses for the rim locking screws. The opening and closing of such pressure vessels takes a long time. Quick-closing lids are also known with flanges and recessed parts which, when the cover is rotated, presses it against the enclosure. Lids of this kind are usually heavy and their manufacturing costs are high.
The invention relates in particular to a rapid closing device for pressure enclosures or the like comprising, suitable for opening the enclosure under pressure, a flanged ring or a flanged frame with a groove around the periphery, directed. towards the enclosure, and a cover provided at its periphery with a flange with a groove determined to correspond to the groove directed towards the enclosure, of the flanged ring or of the flanged frame, and which contains a locking ring or locking profile so arranged that it can be moved from the outside into the groove of the flanged ring or flanged frame by means of a locking device actuation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The object of the invention is to form a rapid closing device of this kind so that it can be quickly and easily adapted to the pressure vessel and removed therefrom, and that one can manufacture relatively inexpensively. According to the invention, the locking ring is divided into several parts, between which are arranged the effective members of the actuating device, and it fills the groove of the flanged ring so that, under the action internal or external overpressure, it bears against the exterior - or interior - wall of the flanged ring.
The invention will be described more fully with the aid of the drawings. In the drawings: - Figure 1 shows a circular pressure vessel with a cover, seen from the front; and - Figure 2 is a section through the front end of the pressure vessel with the cover in place.
In the figures, the upper part shows the cover in the open position and the lower part shows it in the closed position. Figure 3 and Figure 4 show another embodiment for a circular opening, and Figures 5 and 6 show schematically and on a smaller scale, an embodiment for a square opening.
The cylindrical pressurized enclosure is designated by 1. At the open end of the enclosure, a flanged ring 2, with an angle piece, is permanently welded by one of the end surfaces, at 2 ", from the branch 2 'of the angle iron forming the ring 2, to the outer wall of the enclosure.
This branohe is provided on its inner face 3 with a recess 4 which extends parallel to the surface 3 around the periphery
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
of the pressure vessel, and which is designed to receive a seal 5; the other branch 2 "'of the angle of the flanged ring 2 extends parallel to the wall of the pressure vessel, from the opening of the vessel to the outside, to a greater extent. radial distance from the axis @ of the cylinder constituting the enclosure, and is provided in a radial plane with an annular groove 6 concentric with the ring and open towards the longitudinal axis of the opening of the enclosure. One of the side walls 7 of the groove 6 is inclined outwards.
The cylindrical cover 8 is convex towards the interior of the enclosure, and on its peripheral edge 9 is permanently welded, by the exterior side of its U branch directed towards the interior, a flanged ring 10 to U-shaped cross section. The opening of the U of the flange faces the groove 6 of the flange leg 2 'of the pressure vessel. This U branch is provided, on the outside, with an annular bulge 11 at its periphery. In the U-shaped flange 10, that is to say in the opening 12 between these branches , is arranged a ring or a subdivided profile 13 made of an elastic material and of dimensions such that the ring can withstand shear stresses.
The inner peripheral edge of the ring 13 is, in the open position shown in the upper half of the drawing, located on the same circle as the outer peripheral edge of the flange 10 of the cover. The ends, facing each other, of the two ring halves fitted in the flange 10 are obliquely chamfered at 14, so that a wedge 15 between these ends can be pushed back to drive in, by the surfaces. corner 28, ballast ring halves in groove 6 of flange ring 2
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
suitable for the cylinder of the pressure vessel, up to the bottom 6 'of the groove.
By the fact that the inclined wall 7 of the. groove 6, when the ring 13 is driven into the groove is applied against the upper face 13 ', inclined or bevelled, of the halves of the ring, a wedging effect is obtained, and the bulge 11 of the U-shaped flange 10 of the cover is pressed against the gasket 5 in the groove 4 of the flange ring 2.
The wedges 15, which by their front end 16 enter the intermediate space between the obliquely chamfered ends 14 of the ring halves, are fixed to a double-acting screw actuator 17, consisting of a stop head 18 with a life 19 with a right thread and a similar screw with a left thread, and a screw 20 which are fixed to the corner 15 by means of a pin 21 to oppose the couples which are born in the device 17 The annular flange is provided with two openings 22 for passage of the wedges 15. The ring halves 13 are provided with recesses 24 through which the ring halves rest in the open position on pins 25. in the flange 10.
The screw device 17 is carried by a console 26 which is fixed to the outer face of the cover. The ring 13 is of an elastic material such that on cessation of the compression by the wedges 15 it returns to its original shape. The dimensions of the ring are determined by the diameter of the enclosure, by pressure, temperature, material and safety factors. These starting points also determine the forces necessary for the tension of the ring, as well as the elastic reaction forces.
In many cases the elastic reaction occurs automatically, and in others the recall guidance may be
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
obtained by projections guided in holes 27 of the flange
Instead of being made up of two parts, the ring can consist of more, especially for small diameter covers and for high pressures. The wedges 15 can be replaced by articulated connections with connecting rods and the screw device 17 can also be implemented otherwise.
In the embodiment according to Figures 3 and 4, the operating device consists of an articulated system which contains two bars 31 movable from the center of the cover to its periphery. Each of these carries at its extremity two connecting rods 33 which can pivot about journals 32; their free ends 34 are hingedly connected to the ends 35 of the ring halves 13 for their separation and their spreading movement during closing, and their approach and inward movement when opening the cover 8 .
The device shown in figure 5 in the open position and in figure 6 in the closed position is intended for a rectangular opening of a pressure vessel or for a subject space, from the inside or from the inside. 'outside, to pressure waves. Locking profiles consist of two elements with perpendicular parts,
13a and 13b. The operating device 17 'extends diagonally above the cover 8 and acts on the ends 14' facing one another of the two profile halves.
Instead of having a round or square shape, the neck pox may also have an elliptical or polygonal shape; in the latter case, the locking profiles extend towards certain corners of the polygon or towards all of the corners thereof.
