<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

La Fige 1 est une vue en perspective de la pince selon l'invention;
La Fige 2 est une coupe selon la ligne II-II de la Fig. 1;
La Fig. 3 montre les moyens que l'on peut substituer aux pointes de la pince pour transformer celle-ci en clé fixe pour écrous;
La Fig. 4 représente ces mêmes moyens selon un'3 variante ;
Les Figs. 5 à 10 illustrent différents types ce pointes utilisables avec ladite pince;
La Fige 11 montre une pointe en forme de tournevis ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Pliers with interchangeable tips convertible into a fixed tool for nuts,
The present invention relates to grippers comprising, like scissors, two articulated levers ending on one side with a pair of handles and on the other with two jaws extending to form the clamping points.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
A first object of the invention is to provide a clamp as specified above, in which the tips are interchangeable, that is to say capable of being replaced by tips of different characteristics to adapt to each. times the clamp 4 different uses.
As is known, pliers of the ordinary type are not suitable for screwing and unscrewing nuts and bolts, because in the open position the pointed ones are spread apart and cannot achieve a sufficient price * on the 'nut, while in addition, for nuts. of a certain size, the two handles of the pliers are placed in an excessively apart position which makes it difficult to grip *
Another object of the invention therefore consists in providing a clamp as specified above in which means are provided which can be substituted for the tips, and which are capable of transforming the clamp into a fixed wrench for nuts, by eliminating the aforementioned drawbacks.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a transformable clamp as specified above which, in combination with points of different types, can constitute a complete tool, having a particularly advantageous minimum bulk as on-board tool for vehicles. automobiles and for domestic jobs in general.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a clamp comprising two articulated levers and a series of interchangeable points, this clamp being formed so that the latter can easily be replaced and locked in position on the levers.

Objectives of the invention, as well as others, will emerge from the following detailed description with reference to the appended drawings in which @:
Fig 1 is a perspective view of the clamp according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a section on line II-II of FIG. 1;
Fig. 3 shows the means which can be substituted for the tips of the pliers to transform the latter into a fixed wrench for nuts;
Fig. 4 shows these same means according to a variant;
Figs. 5 to 10 illustrate different types of tips which can be used with said pliers;
Fig. 11 shows a tip shaped like a screwdriver;
Fig. 12 shows a tip in the form of a screwdriver similar to the previous one, but bent at 90,
A clamp according to the invention essentially comprises two articulated levers 1 and 2, similar to the branches of a bird, and ending on one side with a pair of poigrees 3 and 4 and on the other side with two jaws? and 6; the levers are assembled by a pin 7 on which they are pivotally mounted in a manner known per se. According to the invention the jaws? and 6 each comprise a blind hole 8 forming a cavity intended to receive a salilante part @ which each of the points of a set of points of different conformations comprises.
The cavities 8 and the protrusions 9 form complementary parts which adapt to each other, so that any pair of the set of tips can be mounted on the jaws? and 6 in order to be able to adapt the clamp to a particular use.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Figs. 5 to 10 representing some of the many types of points which can be advantageously mounted on the clamps according to the invention. More particular. Indeed, Fig. 5 represents a pair of universal points of known type comprising serrated surfaces 10 facing each other, optionally provided with a recess as illustrated at 11.
Fig. 6 shows a pair of cutting tips provided with cutting edges 12; the Freezes. 7-8 illustrate a pair of telephone operator clamp tips comprising straight tapered tips 13, and Figures 9 and 10 show a similar pair of tapered tips with bent end 13a.
Of course, apart from those described and illustrated, many other types of tips can be mounted on the pliers and in particular pincer tips, clamps and the like, although the cavities 8 of the jaws? and 6 and the projecting parts 9 of the tips can have any profiles, provided they are complementary, in a preferred embodiment of the invention they have, in cross section, a substantially rectangular profile with rounded edges and therefore , the mutual engagement between the cavities and the protrusions is such as to prevent the tips from rotating about their own axis.
The projections 9, which constitute a fixing shank, have, moreover, a reduced cross-sectional area with respect to the point, and delimit a shoulder 14 facing the base of the point itself. This shoulder is intended to junction with the upper edge 15 of the jaws, to ensure the exact alignment of the points when the latter are mounted in the working position on the jaws.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
According to the invention, there is also provided means carried by the jaws, for locking in position the tails 9 of the points in the corresponding cavities 8 of the jaws. Preferably, these means comprise for each cavity, a pressure screw 16 projecting inside the corresponding cavity and having a suitably knurled external operating head. The end of the screw protruding into the cavity is intended to engage with the corresponding shank which, facing said screw, has a retaining shoulder 18 below which the shank is extended by a substantially frustoconical appendage 19; this shoulder and this appendage cooperate with the end of the screw to axially block the tail in the cavity.
The invention further provides means which can be substituted for the tips and intended to cooperate with the clamp to transform the latter into a fixed wrench for nuts and bolts.
These means, which in fact constitute a particular type of the set of tips, comprise several pairs of small blocks 20 each of which transforms the clamp into a fixed wrench adapting to one or at most two dimensions of ordinary bolts and nuts; these nuts, designated by 21, can be square or hexagonal.
According to the invention, the blocks 20 each have} tilt internal face 22 intended to engage by contact with the orou and having a profile such that, when the clamp is tightened on the nut, the faces of the two blocks are parai - between them and that the gripper handles maintain a constant opening. The blocks in fact have a base 20a or 20b converging or diverging depending on the dimensions of the bolt or nut.
In Figs. 3 and 4, it is possible
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
to see how the internal faces22 of the blocks, which form the active sides of the fixed wrench, are parallel to each other and spaced just as necessary to grip the corresponding nut, while the distance D between the shanks 9 to which corresponds l opening of the jaws? and 6 and hence gripper handles 3 and 4, is substantially equal for the two types of blocks.
In order to ensure a constant opening of the key and to improve the efficiency of the latter, each pair of blocks comprises a retaining lever 23, articulated at 24 on one of the blocks and having a hooked end. 23a intended to engage with a pawl 25 or 25a, projecting on the other block, the hooking of the hook 23a with one or the other of the pawls 25 ot 25a making it possible to vary slightly the amplitude of the key to make it usable with two nut sizes differing little from each other.
The clamp according to the invention may further comprise a lower stirrup 26 pivoted at 27 on one of the handles and cooperating with a slot 28 of the other handle to lock the clamp in the closed position; the aforementioned stirrup further comprises a stopper finger 29. naturally, each pair of blocks and points will be engraved in letters and numbers, indications allowing the pairs to be recognized and the blocks to be identified according to the size of the nut to which they relate, Apart from the aforementioned points and blocks, the clamps according to the invention can be used as a support for other tools, thus for example. they may be fitted with screwdriver tips 30 and 31 straight or curved at 90 as shown on Pies * 11 and 12.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Although a preferred embodiment of the invention has been described only by way of example, many construction and form variants are possible without departing from the scope of the invention.
