Handle for mattress.
The present invention relates to a new and improved mattress handle.
The modern mattress with central spring has an appreciable poies and volume and the usual practice of this to provide in, or on the edge of each side of the mattress, one or more lines to facilitate the lifting and turning of the matel.
According to the present invention, a comb for mattress it

is molded from a piece of plastic material having a certain flexibility and resilience and has spaced ends adapted to be inserted through spaced eyelets or rings formed in an edge of the mattress, each end of the handle having an integral tab or tenon which, in position not subject to. the tension moves away from the handle in a direction away from the end, but can be placed right up against the handle to allow that end to pass through an eyelet or ring, the tab or tenon after passing through the eyelet or ring returning to its normal position and locking the handle against its removal.
The handle will normally be employed in combination with a backing plate which is secured against the inner face of the edge of the mattress by eyelets or rings, and which may be rigid, but preferably is elastic.
If it is necessary at any point to detach the handle from the mattress, the stiffening plate will be bent and one end of the handle will be pulled back through the eyelet, far enough to allow the tab or tenon of this placed against the handle so that the end can then be pushed or pulled forward 4 through the eye. The other end of the handle can then be pulled out of the eyelet from the marl way.
A practical embodiment of the present invention. And: Illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a handle in position on the edge of a mattress.

The illustrated mattress handle is molded from a plastics material exhibiting flexibility and strength, and having adequate mechanical strength for the intended purpose. The handle is an elongated member, substantially yellow. whose upper and lower bards above the pr 'd':
, central grips are thickened as shown in 11 to make the handle easy to grip,
EMI3.4
The front face of the handle is flat at each t "y.1.t'Ônï2.t-.t, but on the posterior face there is a thick end H1 {(the rib 12 protruding backwards from the internal end from which extends an integral tab 13 of substantial length, In its free state, the various tab

To secure the handle to a mattress, the ends of the handle are inserted through openings formed in the rings or eyelets 14 mounted in the edge 15 of a mattress at a suitable distance between them. The edge comprises an inner layer of fabric 16, a layer of stuffing 17 and an outer layer of ticking.

mattress, the layers being fixed together by seam lines 19. The eyelets pass through drill openings in the edge and into a stiffening metal plate 21 which is fixed by the eyelets against the inner face of the edge. stiffening can be rigid,
but preferably it is formed by an elastic steel band so that its central part can yield inwards when the handle is used. The openings in the eyelets are rectangular in shape and have dimensions such that the thickened ends of the handle can be easily inserted through them.
To fix the handle, each of its ends is in turn inserted into an eyelet as shown in figure 7 and is pressed through this eyelet, the tab 13 being placed right against the rear face of the handle as it passes through it. 'eyelet. As soon as the tab is released from the eyelet, its free end detaches from the rear face of the handle and the tab engages against the stiffening plate on the inner side of the eyelet, as illustrated in Figure 4, so that the handle is securely anchored in the edge.
If it is desired at any time to remove the handle, one of the ends of this handle is withdrawn or pushed back through the eyelet until the tab 13 can be closed against the rear face of the handle as well. as shown in Figure 6 and the end of the handle can then be easily pushed or pulled forward through the eyelet.
The other end of the comb is then removed from the marl manner.
The elastic stiffening plate allows the edge to be curved to bring the rings closer to each other while the first end of the handle is removed.
