<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Afin de retarder le déclenchement du relais8, sa bobine est shuntée par un condensateur 13;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Device for welding studs.
The invention relates to a device for welding studs, in which the welding time is determined by means of a magnetic contactor to be actuated by a contact and which trips when the voltage between the welding pin and the workpiece. falls below a specified value.
In a known device of this type, the series connection of the excitation winding of a magnetic switch and the starting contact of the device are connected to the welding voltage, this contact being shunted by a holding contact. of the magnetic switch. Therefore, when the device is put into action by pressing the start contact, the magnetic switch ': closes the circuit from the welding current source to the welding pin and the workpiece, while after releasing the contact start-

rage, said holding contact closes the electrical circuit of the magnetic coil.
By the time the weld is / formed, the passage resistance between the weld pin and the part liquefied in the meantime has become so low that it short-circuits the magnetic coil and the magnetic switch automatically trips.
This device has certain drawbacks, which the present invention obviates. When, in the known device, the start contact is pressed by an untimely operation without the cartridge being placed facing the part, the coil of the magnetic switch will be energized, so that other operations with the cartridge of welding could cause accidents. In addition, if the start contact is kept pressed for too long, so that soldering is already done, and short-circuits the coil of the magnetic switch, an excitation current flows through this coil again, so that the con - Magnetic switch tacts shake and can be damaged.
The invention has the particular feature that the welding voltage is applied, optionally by means of rectifiers, to two parallel branches, one of which comprises the excitation coil of an auxiliary relay and the other the mounting in. series of the coil of the magnetic switch, said start contact and the working contact of the aforementioned relay, the latter contact being bypassed by a holding contact of the magnetic switch.
The description of the appended drawing, given by way of non-limiting example, will make it clear how the invention can be implemented, the particularities which emerge both from the text and from the drawing being, of course, part of the invention,
Fig. 1 represents a first exemplary embodiment ,. of the device.
FIG. 2 shows a second exemplary embodiment.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In fig. 1, the terminals 1 of a welding current source 2 are connected to the mains, for example the alternating current mains. The welding current source can be either direct or alternating current type * It supplies a fairly low voltage of the order of a few tens of volta and a current of very high intensity, while its internal resistance is large compared to to the internal resistance of the weld once formed. The voltage of the welding current source 2 is applied, via a switch 3, magnetically controlled, provided with an excitation coil 4, between the welding gun and a part 6.
With the aid of the rectifier assembly 7, one obtains, from the welding voltage, a direct voltage for the excitation of the coil 4. This direct voltage is applied to two circuits in parallel, one of which comprises the excitation winding 8 of an auxiliary relay, the work contact of which is indicated by 9, while the other circuit comprises the assembly ', in series of the coil 4, a closing contact, in particular. connect a start contact 10 preferably mounted on the welding gun 5, and a holding contact 11 of a magnetic switch 3, 4, which bypasses contact 9.
The device works as follows:
When switching on the welding current source, the rectifier assembly 7 generates an excitation current for the relay 8. The contact 9 is then closed, so that the electrical circuit for the coil 4 is closed. as soon as the start contact 10 is depressed. This depressing causes the switching on of the switch 3 and the closing of the holding contact 11 of the magnetic switch 3, 4. At the same time, the contact 10 short-circuits , via a rectifier 12, the energizing winding of relay 8. As a result, contact 9 trips, but the holding contact 11 of magnetic switch 3, 4 assumes meanwhile the function of the contact 9.
As soon as the weld is formed, the voltage between the welding pin and the workpiece will be
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
has fallen to such a low value that the rectifier circuit 7 is practically short-circuited and the excitation of the magnetic coil 4 disappears, so that the switch 3 trips. After releasing the starting contact 10, the initial state is then restored.
The arrangement according to the invention makes it possible to obtain that, when the start contact is inadvertently pressed, but is then released again, the coil 4 is first energized, but is not kept energized because the current d excitation is interrupted by the start contact. In addition, if the start contact 10 is kept depressed for such a long time that the solder has formed and then practically constitutes a short circuit for the rectifier assembly 7, the energization of the magnetic switch 3, 4 will be so weak that this switch trips and contacts 3 and 11 open.
Contrary to the known device, we cannot then start an excitation current again in the magnetic switch 3, 4, before the start contact 10 has opened and the short circuit of the relay 8 is deleted and that the NO contact 9 is closed again and that the starter contact 10 is pushed in again. -
In order to delay the triggering of relay 8, its coil is shunted by a capacitor 13;
the rectifier 14 prevents an undesirable discharge of the capacitor 13 on the starting contact 10. Since, in general, the auxiliary relay
8 must be used at a lower voltage than the magnetic switch 3, 4, a drop resistor 15 has been provided and the rectifier 12 prevents the switch 3, 4 from receiving excitation current from the voltage across this resistor 15 alone. The rectifier 16 mounted in parallel with the coil 4 constitutes a short-circuit for any triggering voltage pulses at the terminals of this coil.
The device mentioned has the drawback that the start contact 10 is crossed by the excitation current.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
of fairly high intensity of the magnetic switch 3, 4. In order to eliminate this drawback, in the device shown in FIG. 2, a second auxiliary relay 20 is provided, which is also energized by the rectifier assembly 7. This relay 20 is provided with a closing contact 21, and a breaking contact 22. The latter contact acts as a switch. closing contact for magnetic switch 3, 4.
To feed the coil
4, an individual rectifier assembly 23 is used and, during operation, during the positive phase of the welding voltage, current flows through the series circuit of the rectifier 25, of the coil 4 and of the rectifier 26, while, during the negative phase, current flows through the series circuit of rectifier 27, coil 4 and rectifier 28.
When the welding apparatus is connected to the mains so that the rectifier assembly 7 supplies the current necessary for the relay 20, the contact 21 will be closed, but the contact 22 on the other hand will be open. Therefore, relay 8 engages and its working contact 9 closes.
When the start contact 10 is closed, the relata 20 is short-circuited, so that the contact 21 is open, while the contact 22 is closed. As a result of the delaying effect of the capacitor 13, the relay 8 remains on for a sufficiently long time for the excitation of the coil 4 of the magnetic switch 3, 4 to be established via the contacts. switch 9 and 22. As a result, contacts 3 and 11 are formed and the welding process can begin and end with the solder practically shorting the coil 4.
In this case, the magnetic switch 3, 4 trips and can no longer engage (by the fact that its main contact 11 is open), before the start contact 10 is interrupted, therefore the short circuit of the relay 20 is deleted, after which the start contact 10 must be pressed again when it is desired to start a new welding cycle.
