It is known that it is known to make pipes, or pipe fittings, in the wall of a large diameter tube, such as a manifold, by passing a punch through said wall of the manifold. previously heated, so as to finally obtain a tubing taken from the very mass of the metal of the collector.
In the case of collectors or parts of great thickness, in which it is desired to produce pipes of large diameter, with thick enough lips so as to allow the connection of the tubes themselves thick, it is quite difficult to obtain with a punch, in a single operation, the desired tubing because of the thickness of the metal to be passed through and the large dimensions of this tubing.
The present invention relates to a method and devices making it possible, however, to easily produce tubings of this type. According to the invention, one begins by making, in the known manner, in the wall of the manifold, a tubing, with high lips and relatively thin, and the diameter of which is smaller than that of the final tubing. that we want to obtain.
Thereafter, into the tube thus produced, and in accordance with the present invention, a first punch or the like is introduced from outside the manifold, which has the effect of widening the lips of the tube in the form of a ring. cone, possibly increasing the thickness.
Then, during a second operation, a die corresponding to the final shape that is desired to be given to it is placed outside the tubing, and a punch is placed inside the collector. of generally cylindro-conical shape, the external dimensions of which are those of the inside of the final pipe, and this punch is extracted, by traction exerted for example from the outside of the collector, so that the passage of the punch causes the discharge of the metal of the tubing already formed inside the die and gives the tubing its final shape.
The description which follows, with reference to the accompanying drawings given by way of example, will make it easier to understand how the invention can be implemented.
Figs. 1 to 4 show in section four stages of manufacture of the tubing object of the invention.
In Figure 1, we have already made in the wall of the manifold a, in the manner recalled above, a tube b with relatively high and thin lips and whose internal diameter AA is less than that of the final tube. BB (fig. 4) that we want to obtain.
According to the invention, during a first operation, is introduced, from the outside to the inside of this preheated tubing, and by pushing or pulling, an ogival punch ± which has the effect of flaring the lips of the tube. the tubing b in the form of a conical bowl b, as seen in FIG. 2. This flaring of the lips of the tube could also be obtained by rotary tilting of a tool inserted into the tube. This operation can thicken the lips.
A matrix, for example in two parts,, f, the interior of which corresponds to the dimensions of the final tubing which one wishes to obtain, is then placed around the tubing b1obtée. After heating the tubing b1. there is placed inside the collector a punch g having the cylindrical-conical shape shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, and this punch is driven out, in the direction of arrow F, so that, resting on the bent part of the tube, it raises it and pushes the metal from this region h of the tube into the 'recess i (FIG. 3) which remains around the tube b1, between this tube b1 and the matrix e.
After passing the punch g through the tube b1, the final tube shown in FIG. 4, whose internal diameter is equal to B B and whose lips are, as can be seen in the figure, thickened with respect to the lips of the initial tubing b from which we started.

The two-piece die e f could be one-piece.
On the other hand, if it is convenient to place, from the start of the operation, the die in two parts and around the tubing, as shown in FIG. 1, and to bring the upper part closer together. f of the lower part between the first and second operations (fig. 3), this matrix could not be put in place until the end of the first operation.
Note that the orifice k formed in the die f is such that it allows the passage of a part of the punch c used for the first operation, and of the ± punch used for the second operation (fig. 4).
The advantage of using a two-piece die is that the first part, or die e, is of a height such that it corresponds to the height of the lips of the tubing b1 as obtained. after the first operation, as seen in fig. 2, so that then applying the matrix! against the matrix, one constitutes, as seen in FIG. 3, the bottom of the die to the dimensions of the final tubing.
It goes without saying that modifications of detail can be made to this invention without departing from its scope. The invention has been described in its application to a manifold, but it could be applied to pipes obtained on plates or on parts of any other shape.
