Process for manufacturing a cylindrical tube and tube obtained by this process. The problem which frequently arises in the technique is to obtain a cylindrical tube having, locally and on a portion of its periphery, an extra thickness, this extra thickness possibly being intended, after neck cïaâe of the tube at this location, to give on the outside or top of the elbow a thickness greater than that of the adjacent straight pipe sections.
The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a cylindrical tube of circular inner section, having at least one extra thickness over at least one sector of its periphery, this region of the tube then being able to be bent and a tube obtained by this process.
This is characterized in that we start from an initial tube whose thickness is equal to the minimum thickness of the tube that it is desired to obtain but whose internal diameter is greater than that of this tube, on a section of determined length, in that the sector of this section on which it is desired to form the extra thickness is heated, in that the unheated part of the section is deformed, so as to reduce the internal diameter of this section up to its definitive value and simultaneously increasing the thickness of the heated part of the section.
The appended drawing illustrates, by way of example, several particular implementations of the method and represents an embodiment of the tube, which are the subject of the present invention. Fig. 1 shows two straight sections of tube to which it is proposed to connect a rope.
Fig. 2 is a dirty cross-sectional view of the tube from which we start to manufacture the elbow.
Fig. 2a is a view of a variant of the tube shown in FIG. 2.
Figs. 3 and 4 illustrate, in cross section, urn -du tube stamping operation shown in .la fig. 2 or in fig. 2bis.
Fig. 5 is an axial sectional view of a bend completed and connected to two straight pipe sections.
Figs. 5bis and 5ter are sectional views along J-5bis and 5-5ter of FIG. 5.
Fig. 6 is an axial sectional view of an enlarged tube section.
Fig. 7 is a schematic view of an element comprising several elbows.
Figs. 8 to 10 schematically represent the various forging phases of a tube having two symmetrical extra thicknesses, and FIGS. 11 and 12 illustrate a variant of the forging operation shown in FIGS. 8 to 10.
It is proposed to connect an elbow with extra thickness to two straight pipe sections a1 and a2 shown in FIG. 1, as shown in FIG. 5.
For the manufacture of the elbow, one starts with a tube b shown in cross section in FIG. 2 and the thickness of which is equal to that of the sections a1 and a2, but the internal diameter of which is enlarged over a section of determined length.
To fix ideas, the straight pipe sections a1 and a2 have, for example, a thickness of 3.5 mm and an internal diameter of 23 mm and the bend e is executed from a pipe having a thickness of 3, 5 mm, but which is widened on the longitudinal section to be treated, its internal diameter being for example 30 mm.
A sector A B hatched in narrow lines in FIG. 2 of the widened longitudinal section of the tube b. The heating can act only on part of the thickness of the tube, as shown in FIG. 2 "'s. The section of tube, one sector of which has been heated, is then introduced into a die c, as shown in FIG. 3, and, using a punch d shown in section in the same figure and which rests on parts remaining cold of tube b on either side of sector AB,
pressure is exerted in the direction of arrow F. The shape of the matrix c is such that the sector ACB of the tube which has remained relatively cold undergoes, by sinking into the matrix, a deformation which has the effect of it give back, as seen in fig. 4, the internal diameter of the tube sections a1 and a2. This deformation also has the effect of exerting a pressure on the heated sector A B which causes its wall to swell, and produces an excess thickness thereof.
This extra thickness is housed in a recess made at the end of the punch d, as can be seen in FIG. 3. Finally, a tube b is obtained which has a thickened sector b1 visible in section in FIG. 4. The recess where the extra thickness b1 is housed could also be made in the matrix at its lower part, the heated sector AB then being placed downwards, at 180 ° from the position shown. in fig. 3 and 4.
In this case, the punch is supported only on the most resistant parts of the tube and the reinforcement of the wall is produced in the zone least directly subjected to the dynamic action of the die-forging.
During the forging operation, one can dispose of. inside the tube a heat-insulated or cooled man drin, or else a stream of cold fluid, air or water, can be passed through the tube, which has the effect of increasing the rigidity of the cold part A C B.
It is also possible to carry out an internal recalibration of the tube v after stamping, so that its internal section is circular.
The tube with increased thickness thus obtained is then bent, in any known manner, so as to finally obtain a bend e shown in FIG. 5, and of corresponding diameter. to that of the tube sections al and a2, la. extra thickness hl located in the. outer region and at the top of the elbow, as can be seen in Figs. 5 and 5b's. Casting can be done at an angle less than 180.
The heating of sector 1I B can be carried out using torches or, preferably, by electric induction, a process which makes it possible to obtain very rapid and very intense heating of a region of the tube delimited both on the surface and in depth (fig. 2 "'s). The elbow e thus obtained must still be connected to the straight pipe sections a1 and a2.
It is also possible to obtain a one-piece bend with straight tube sections a, by enlarging a tube at the desired locations, up to the appropriate exterior and interior dimensions, without producing any excess thickness, as shown in FIG. 6 and as described in Swiss patent N 295159.
For example, to manufacture an element, superheater or heat exchanger consisting of a certain length of tube having for example three hairpin bends, as shown in FIG. 7, we first widen the tube a to the desired rights fl, f2, fs, then we subject these places to the operations described above, so as to obtain finally an element. mono block with three elbows f l, f2, f3. We will indeed notice. than the process described. can be applied to any point along the length of a straight tube.
The implementation of the method described above makes it possible to obtain -an asymmetric extra thickness on the wall of a tube. The process specified, however, also makes it possible to obtain several extra thicknesses, symmetrical or asymmetrical, and in particular two diametrically opposed extra thicknesses, so that the tube finally obtained is internally circular and has an oval or ellipsoidal outer profile. Such an implementation of the method is schematically illustrated in FIGS. 8 to 10.
We also start with a tube whose internal diameter is slightly greater than that of the final tube that we want to obtain, this tube is heated in two sectors DE, C h ', hatched in lines less tight in fig. 8. On the sectors C D and P E which have remained cold, two punches gl and g2 are then applied, which are moved in opposite directions according to arrows Gl and G2.
The compression thus exerted on the heated sectors has the effect, after bringing the punches g1 and g2 closer together and as shown in FIG. 9, to produce two diametrically opposed swellings k1 and k2 on the periphery of the tube.
After having suitably heated the sectors CD and r E, two other punches hl, h2 are possibly applied at right angles to the swollen parts, following the direction of the arrows Hl, H2, so as to cause the deformation of the sectors C D, I 'E and their application in the recesses ii, i2 (fig. 9) provided in the head of each of the punches g1, g2.
In definitive we get. a tube including. the exterior profile is. oval or ellipsoidal presenting skies extra thicknesses k1, k2, and including. the internal section is. circular.
The movements of the two punches g1 and g2 and of the two punches hl and. ja2 can be simultaneous, the forging operation then being performed all at once.
According to a variant, it is also possible to obtain a tube presenting. two diametrically opposed overthickers in an analogous fashion to that described with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4, with the difference that, in this case, the punch and the die act directly on the cold sectors of the periphery of the tube. The swelling of the wall takes place in recesses provided in the matrix.
As can be seen in fig. 11 and 12, the tube heated in two sectors D E and C P is placed inside a die k, profiled as shown in the figures, and a mobile punch l is applied to the upper part of the tube.
Under the effect of the pressures exerted by the punch in the direction of arrow L, the hot parts are inflated and the increased thicknesses thus produced are housed in the recesses provided in the die k (fig. 12), while the sectors which have remained cold are deformed and brought back to the desired diameter, thanks to the shape given to the bearing surfaces of the die k and of the punch 1.
The heated part A B of the tube shown in fig. 3, instead of being placed at the top so as to receive the blow of the punch, or as has been said above as a variant, at the bottom in the die c, can also be placed in the area where the punch comes closest to the die at the end of the stroke. It is in fact such a disposition which is represented in Tig. 11 and 12 where each hot sector D E, or C F is at the level of the junction point where the punch meets the die.
The forces of action of the punch and of reaction of the die then act almost according to the same plane parallel to a tangent plane. to the tube, so that they are very effective in the vertical direction on the heated mass of the sector D E, which considerably reduces the chances of wrinkling during forging.
Of course, equivalent results can be obtained using. rollers or cylinders whose grooves have profiles corresponding to those of the dies and punches described or any useful arrangement of dies or punches and rollers to ensure continuous execution.
