<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Il sera bien - entendu que les exemples d'exécution de l'emballage suivant l'invention décrits plus bas et les dessins schématiques en référence auxquels la mise en oeuvre des procédés suivant l'invention pour la fabrication de ces emballages sera expliquée plus en détail, sont donnés à titre purement illustratif et ne limitent en aucune façon l'invention;

Les figures 10 et 11illustrent schématiquement en vues latérales et de plan un autre procédé de ..fabrication pour une rangée d'emballages suivant l'invention;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Bags, pouches or flat sachets of the most diverse shapes and types of manufacture are well known. They serve as packaging, most often for dry, powdered or granular products. The use of bags, pouches and flat sachets for the packaging of wet or liquid products presents, in spite of the possibility of using impermeable plastics in sheets, the drawback that such packaging risks, owing to their convex cushion shape, bursting at their welded joints, as a result of the pressure exerted on the walls of the bags, more particularly when several packages are stacked on top of each other, or there is the risk that the plastic material is damaged by an external influence and the contents of the packaging spill and evaporate.
Such packaging, particularly those manufactured with thin materials and sheets and having weld lines, therefore require more particularly in the case of their use for liquid or semi-liquid products, special measures which protect them against excessively large. efforts.
The object of the present invention is: 1 to provide a packaging comprising a bag, a pocket or a flat sachet (for simplicity, it will be said below only "bag") where this protection is effectively ensured. For this purpose, it is provided according to the essential characteristic of the invention, to combine a bag made of a preferably thin, flexible and possibly transparent sheet material, and intended to receive the goods to be packaged, with a protective envelope. preferably made of a sheet material which is stronger and more rigid than the bag, the combination assembly being so arranged that the protective cover is affixed by suitable means only to a part of the edge of the bag,
while it surrounds the other parts of the bag as a hollow body forming around the bag a screen of a shape approximately similar to that of the bag. According to the invention, a single protective casing can serve to protect several bags against external influences. The connection between the bag and the casing can be effected in any suitable manner, for example by gluing, welding or heat sealing. The unitary assembly comprising, according to the present invention, a bag and a protective envelope, constitutes a flat bag packaging, in which all the fatigue to which the bag is exposed, are practically brought to bear exclusively on the envelope. protective, when the bag is full.
In order to prevent the bag from being subjected to further strain inside the protective casing, some mobility of the bag within the casing is ensured because, according to the invention, the envelope and bag are secured to each other only at the entrance, and to the side edges of the bag, while the bottom and side walls of the bag remain free within the protective casing.
According to a preferred characteristic of the invention, the packaging is produced in a form where, the bag being filled, the envelope has the form of a stable hollow body, that is to say that it stands upright. , preferably in the form of a kind of bell. For this purpose, provision is made to arrange the packaging so that the bottom of the bag in the filled state is situated at a certain distance from the lower edge of the bag. stable and open hollow body. Such an embodiment of the protective casing ensures particularly well a total protection of the surrounded bag, against external influences which could be exerted on the bag, during the storage or during the transport of the bag. packaging.
According to the invention, it is possible to further increase the rigidity of the hollow body in this embodiment, by reinforcing, and this preferably by wrapping up, the free edge of the casing.
The packaging according to the present invention also offers the essential advantage of being upright, which makes it particularly suitable for use as packaging for liquid or semi-liquid substances.
You can choose the materials or sheets for the manufacture of the em-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
balling according to the invention, either uniform or different for the two elements which compose it. Thus, the bag can be made with thin sheets and the envelope with thicker sheets of plastic or metal, cardboard, paper, etc. But it can very well be used for both parts of the bag. 'packaging the same material or material of the same type, if the manufacturing process is to be simplified, or if the type and content of the bag makes it possible to be satisfied with a less resistant protective envelope against external influences.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, however, the bag is made of a weldable or heat-sealable sheet material, for example of plastics such as polyethylene, or of sheets. coated with a weldable material or capable of being heat sealed, but the envelope of a relatively rigid material, such as paper, cardboard, metal foils, etc. However, it is also possible, and provided for according to the invention, to use for the envelope as well as for the bag a weldable packaging material. In both cases, it is possible to effect the connection between the bag and the protective casing at the connection lines in a particularly simple and efficient manner by means of welding or sealing.
According to one embodiment of the invention, an angled weld is made at one of the upper corners of the package or at both corners so that at this location the seat of the joint has approximately the shape of a triangle. We can then provide in one of these triangles, or in both, holes, which saves space by storing the filled packaging, because they can be hung, or this means of hanging the packaging can be used to display them in plain sight for advertising purposes. This triangle weld also increases the strength of the suspension.
In addition, if the hole is large enough, the packaging can also be hung up on the finger and thus held in the filled state without exerting pressure there to pass it from hand to hand or to empty it.
For emptying the packages, the following arrangement can be particularly advantageous: there is provided in one of the two upper corners having welds of a certain width, a channel, preferably directed towards the top of the triangle and stopping shortly before the outer edge of the packaging. By cutting off the corner in question, the channel is opened to the outside, which allows the contents of the packaging to be emptied impeccably, for example in the case of a liquid content using a small tube or a straw introduced into the channel. An essential advantage of this arrangement is that the mouth of the channel is located almost at the top of the filled space, so that the contents are not liable to spill out when the package is opened.
According to a preferred form of the implementation of the process for the manufacture of the packaging according to the invention, an endless hose made of the sheet material intended to constitute the bag is slipped over a flat shape or plate which determines the shape of the bag, so as to be able to cover, on both sides of this shape, the casing with bands intended to constitute the protective envelope of the bag. Simultaneously, the joints connecting the bands of the envelope with the two inlet edges of the bag are made by any suitable means, and then the connection of the side seals of the packaging (bag with protective envelope) is made. . Finally, the individual packages are separated by cuts between these side seals.
A more rigid material than the sheet material constituting the bags can be used for the bands of the envelope, but the invention is in no way limited by this difference in materials. The execution of the joints is particularly simple if the two materials used are weldable or allow heat sealing, or if they are coated materials of a weldable or heat-sealing material.
¯ To make the manufacture of packaging according to the invention parti-

Or quite economical, according to another essential characteristic of the invention there is proposed a process for the simultaneous manufacture of a double row of packages according to the invention. To implement it, the material intended to constitute the bags is passed in the form of an endless hose over a flat or plate form. On both sides of the plate, the casing is covered with a pair of strips of the material intended to constitute the casing. These bands are arranged in such a way that there remains on each face in the middle a strip free from the material of the hose between the pair of bands.
The various materials thus arranged ¯, welds are carried out at the edge of the median strip connecting with the material of the gut the edges of the bands of the casing which face each other on and beyond the median strip. Then, by cutting it, we remove the median strip on one side of the plate only, that is to say that on the other side of the hose the double row of packaging remains attached to it. Then the side seals of the individual packages are joined and the individual packages are separated from each other by cuts between these side seals. The second median strip, to which they still remain attached, is detached after filling the individual packages.
A modified process for the manufacture of a double row of packages according to the invention is essentially distinguished in that a flattened casing preferably consisting of a material is unwound from a feed roll. weldable and transparent plastic such as, for example, polyethylene, or a material coated with a coating of such a weld- ing material by heat sealing, that both sides of the flattened hose are folded towards its axis median to thus first form two continuous side pockets, and then compartmentalize these continuous pockets using joints transverse to the median axis, preferably by welding or heat sealing,
in a double row of double-walled bags attached to each other whose outer walls are transformed into envelopes flaring in the shape of a bell to surround and support the bags, transformation which is effected by cutting or detaching the material from the outer walls along the fold line or outer edge.
In order to increase the rigidity and stability of the individual packages, it is possible, according to the invention, to provide for the introduction of reinforcing strips, for example strips cut from metal or metallized sheets, cardboard or another similar material, in the slots between the walls of the bags and the protective casing serving as a support. Advertising images or texts or, for example, instructions for use can be printed on these tapes.
According to another method according to the invention for manufacturing a single row or series of packages according to the invention, a strip of weldable or heat-sealable packaging material is formed from a strip Oval-section hose covered on both sides with bands intended to form the protective casing and which are connected with the hose by a common joint making an outward ridge, which closes the hose and simultaneously attaches the bands of the hose to it. wraps. The contents of the packages are introduced into the oval casing, and after the introduction of a suitable quantity, other joints are made transverse to the longitudinal axis of the casing, which joints connect the walls of the casing. between them and simultaneously fix the bands forming the envelope.
This is how the packages look with the bag filled and the bands of the envelope surround it in a bell shape.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the strip employed to produce the oval casing according to the process just described is in the form of a strip folded in the form of a V in two layers, made of a heat-sealing or heat-sealing packaging material, for example polyethylene or a similar material, the free longitudinal edges of which are connected to each other as well as to one edge of each of the strips constituting the envelope.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
It is also possible to use, to form the envelope, a single band folded in the shape of a V, or again, to bring a single folded band in the form of a W intended to constitute both the oval casing and the casing, where the two walls of the casing. inner ply constitute the casing and the two outer walls constitute the casing.
It will of course be understood that the examples of execution of the packaging according to the invention described below and the schematic drawings with reference to which the implementation of the methods according to the invention for the manufacture of these packaging will be explained in more detail. , are given purely by way of illustration and in no way limit the invention;

Figures 1 to 3 show a package according to the invention, in which the shape of the seamless bottom bag 1 made of a thin sheet material, flexible and weldable or heat-sealable, is prepared in advance by the superposition of the side edges. The connection of the bag with the two walls 2 and 3 of the envelope is effected by welding together the side edges 4 and 5 of the bag and of the envelope.
The seamless bottom 8 of the bag 1 is connected to the walls 2 and 3 of the casing only to the side edges 4 and., 5. When entering the packaging, only the upper edge of one wall of the bag and the edge of the corresponding wall of the envelope are reduced by welding first, so that the entire top of the packaging still remains open to form the filling mouth.
After filling the top is also closed with a seal 6.
As a result of the filling and closing of the upper seal 6, the bag 1 bulges out and the envelope flares out to adopt the shape of a bell or the like,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
so that the walls 2 and 3 freely surround the outer surfaces of the bag 1 and that most of the bottom 8 of the bag 1 rises a certain distance above the base edge 7 of the envelope 2 , 3. Thus only the side seals 4, 5 and the top seal 6 of the bag 1 and the envelope 2, 3 are connected, while the side walls of the bag and ¯, its bottom 8 free and movable hang down. inside the envelope 2.3 flared bell. To give more stability to the envelope 2 3, the lower edge 7 can be rolled up along line 9.
The shape of the bag and the envelope can be varied at will.
According to the exemplary embodiment illustrated by FIGS. 3a to 3c, at least one of the upper corners 80 is welded at an angle so that the span of the weld at this location forms a kind of triangular tab 81. But we can, if obviously desirable, also weld the other corner 82 so as to obtain a second triangle of this kind 83. One or both legs in triangle 81,83 can be drilled with a hole 84 used for gripping, hanging or handling empty or filled packaging. In the drawing, a single hole is shown at corner 80.
According to Figure 3b, one of the corners 82 of the packaging has instead of a hole, a channel 85 directed towards the top of the triangle 82 and which stops shortly before the outer edge of the corner 82 of the packaging .
FIG. 3c illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the packaging according to the invention of a shape tapering upwards.
To empty the package, we simply cut along line 86, which produces an orifice large enough to remove all the contents of the package. In the embodiment according to FIG. 3b, the cut 86 crosses the channel 850
Figures 4 and 5 schematically illustrate the implementation of a process for the manufacture of a series or double row of packages as shown in Figures 1 to 3. From a roll 10, a strip of sheet material, for example polyethylene, in the form of a practically endless hose 11, is stretched tightly over a flat or plate 14 which is mounted on a rod 12 so as to extend freely horizontally.
On the upper and lower faces of the form 14 are arranged double rollers 26/27 and 28/29 arranged as welders and serving to connect the bands 19, 20 and 21, 22 intended to constitute the envelope and unwinding from feed rollers 15,16 and 17,18; with the material of the hose 11 forming the bags. The welds are however only produced at the edges 24 and 25 of the bands of the casing, so that between these edges 24 and 25 as well as at the bottom of the form 14 the lengths of the casing 33,37 remain. not recovered.
One of these strips in the middle of the boyaū, for example that 33, which is at the top of the form, is cut gradually using the cutting wheels 30, 31 (see figure 4), so that the different elements welded together at their edges 24, 25 remain assembled only by the median strip 37 of the hose 11 which passes below the form 14.
The combined strip thus prepared, then passes between welding jaws 34,35 which perform the welding of the side edges 4,5 of the packages.
Cuts 36 by stamping between the edges 4, 5 then separate the packages thus produced from one another in double rows, so that they are only retained by the width 37.
The packaging can then be filled, leaving them thus attached in series,. Or else individually, and finally the seal 6 is sealed.
To carry out the modified manufacturing process according to FIGS. 6 to 9, use is made of a weldable or heat-sealing plastic material, preferably transparent, molded into a thin-walled casing 11. This kind of ma-
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
plastic material is in common use. This casing, when laid flat, unwinds from a feed roller 10. By folding one of the two sides of the casing flat 11, two continuous pockets with double walls 40, 41 are first formed. a double row of bags 43 is made with the aid of weld lines 42 extending transversely to the axis of the pipe. The inlets of these bags are arranged at a certain distance from each other. along the median axis of the hose 11 (Figures 7 and 7a.
When the outer wall of the pipe is cut or split along the fold lines 45, the protective envelopes as shown in Figures 1 to 3 show, i.e. bell-shaped, after the filling of individual bags.
If the sheet material used is particularly thin, it is possible to reinforce the two walls of the protective casing which surround the bag by inserting on both sides into the slits between the walls of the bag and the inner surface of the protective casing which serves backing, strips cut from foil, cardboard or the like. These bands can be provided with an imprint indicating the contents of the packages or with an advertising imprint.
You can proceed in two ways for filling: either the rows of packaging are filled one after the other while they are still in one piece and then the individual packages are detached from each other and from the middle band 51; or the individual packages are first separated by cutting along the stamping lines or perforations 46 and then filling. Here again, we have the choice, either to allow the median strip 51 of the casing 11 to adhere in order to hold the packages in series, or to detach each package before filling it.
Figures 8 and 9 serve to illustrate how the rows of bags produced from the continuous pockets 40, 41 can be simultaneously filled and sealed. For this, the rows of bags are suspended on a rod 47 so that the inlet bags are at the top and the bags hang vertically. The joints 48 are filled and then welded by means of the roller welder 49, 50.
Figures 10 to 14 schematically illustrate a method for manufacturing a row of packages according to the invention. In this case, a double folded V-shaped strip 61 of the material used to make the bags unwinds from a roll 60. Polyethylene plastic, weldable or heat sealable will be used. Against the outer surfaces of this strip 61 come to rest strips 64, 65 which unwind from rollers 62, 63 (FIG. 12 showing the section zl-zl indicated in FIG. 11).
The strips 61,64,65 thus clamped together, then pass between a pairē, of weld-on rollers 66, 67, which connect the free edges of the strip 68 (that is to say the edges shown on the left in figure 12) and this in such a way that an oval casing is formed from which, the bands forming the envelope moving away from both sides (figure 13 section z2 - z2 of figure 11).
We can now proceed to the filling of the oval hose ansi manufactured gradually or intermittently using a funnel 70 whose nozzle 71 is introduced into the hose 61 not yet formed, that is to say from above weld rollers 66.67 and which descends approximately to the jaw welders 73.74 which performs the transverse welds at regular intervals 69. These welds 69 connect the walls of the hose 61 at the same time they firmly attach them to the bands of the casing 64, 65 so that a row of packages results where the bags are surrounded by their envelopes which protect them and keep them in an upright position.
By means of perforations or cuts along the transverse weld lines 69, a desired number of packages can be detached from the row.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
As Figures 15 and 15a show it is possible to substitute for the two separate bands 64,65 a single V-folded band 75 which covers the V-folded band of the material constituting the bags on the side of the two free edges of the latter.
According to Figures 16 and 16a, a single strip 76 folded in W can also be used to produce the row of packaging according to the invention. It is unnecessary to go into the details of the manufacture of the rows of packages. from the bands as illustrated by Figures 15, 15a and 16, 16a, because the explanations given above are sufficient for those skilled in the art.
