<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
élément rotor.ique balourde dont le déplacement angulaire de sécurité, c.à.d. l'écart angulaire entre la position de sécurité et la position "armée" est supérieur à 90 ; ce support rotorique de l'amorce est maintenu dans sa position de sécurité par un ver- rou y engagé dont le profil d'allure conique est particulier;
Toutes ces caractéristiques apparaîtront davantage de la description détaillée ci-après d'une exécution préférée, la- quelle se réfère aux dessins annexés dans lesquels: la figure 1 est une vue schématique en élévation du pro- jectile perfectionné conforme à l'invention; la figure 2 est une vue en élévation avec coupe partielle par un projectile.perfectionné conforme à l'invention; la figure 3 est une coupe selon la ligne III-III de la figure. 2;

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

. The subject of the invention is an improved shaped charge projectile, more especially of the coated type, such as, for example, a rocket, a rifle grenade or any other shaped charge projectile.
More especially still, the invention relates to such shaped charge projectiles provided with an electric head or warhead generator and a base initiation system.
The improved projectile according to the invention is characteristic in that it comprises, alone or in various combinations, one or more of the following characteristics: the base safety device carrying the primer comprises, in principal, a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
unbalanced rotor element whose safety angular displacement, i.e. the angular difference between the safety position and the "armed" position is greater than 90; this rotor support for the primer is held in its safety position by a lock engaged therein, the conical shape of which is particular;
said rotor support for the primer is conditioned so that, being stressed by the effects of inertia during the acceleration phase of the projectile, it moves angularly in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the unlocking; said safety lock is completed by a safety pin arranged in the path of the recou @ movement of the lock.
These different mechanical characteristics are supplemented by electrical safety means. In particular, the electrical connection contacts are made laterally; the connection between the warhead generator and the primer is ensured by a conductor passing through the coating of the shaped charge near the base of this coating or even by a conductor passing through a fixing ring of said coating.
The invention is also found in the relative arrangement of the various constituent elements of the firing mechanism of the charge so as to present both maximum safety and maximum efficiency.
All these characteristics will become more apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment, which refers to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a schematic elevational view of the improved projectile according to the invention; Figure 2 is an elevational view partially sectioned by a projectile.perfectné according to the invention; Figure 3 is a section along the line III-III of the figure. 2;

FIG. 4 is a plan view with partial section of the primer safety device, the casing of this device being shown in radial section; Figure 5 is a plan view of the safety device in the rest position, with, / partially sectioned by the locking mechanism;
Figure 6 is a plan view of the safety device shown in the position of Figure 5, with partial section showing the obstruction of the passage to the load; Figure 7 is a view similar to Figure 5, the safety mechanism being shown in its final actuating position; FIG. 8 is a view similar to FIG. 6, the safety mechanism being shown in its final actuating position; Figure 9 is a section along the line IX-IX-IX of Figure 8; FIG. 10 is a partial elevational view of the barrel of the primer safety device; Figure 11 is a section along the line XI-XI of Figure 10 shown in exploded view; FIG. 12 is a variant of FIG. 3; Figure 13 is a variant of the front part of Figure 2.
In this embodiment, the projectile to which the invention relates substantially comprises a head generator or give 1, a head 2 comprising the shaped charge, the primer safety device 3, the body and the head. tail tail 5.
The improvements, which are the subject of the invention, relate more especially to the very particular conditioning of the head or warhead generator 1, the safety device for initiating the particular connection between said warhead generator 1 and
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
said mechanism. bootstrap security 3, as well as original arrangements described below.
As shown in radial section in FIG. 3, the head or ogive generator 1, for example of the piezoelectric type, comprises a crystal 6 housed in a cup 7 whose bottom 8 is extended by a tubular terminal 9. in which is fixed the stripped end 10 of the conductor 11 connecting the warhead generator to the safety device of the primer. At the head of the ogive 12 is crimped a ring 13 on which is firmly fixed a windshield 14, for example of steel, coming to be ppled on the: outer face of said crystal 6¯ via a protective wall 15 .
The cup 2 itself takes solid support on the end -nal disc 16 which bears very firmly on the corresponding straightened end of the ogive 12 in said ring 13.
This combination is such that, whatever the impact, crystal 6 will provide the pulse or pulses necessary to generate the quantity of electric current sufficient for firing the primer. Also, this combination is such that said crystal 6 has relatively small dimensions.
The conductor 11 is, as shown in FIG. 2, applied along the internal wall of the ogive 12, passes through the conical wall 17 of the shaped charge while being protected, in this passage, by a tubular element 18 in an insulating material, said conductor 11 then being applied against the wall of the head ¯2 to end in the primer safety device.
This primer safety device is placed behind the shaped charge and its essential parts are shown in Figures 4 to 8.
In this embodiment, the device comprises a cylindrical body 19 cut, over its length, so as to present a flat surface 20 limited, towards the front, by the disc 21 and, towards the rear, by a portion of the disc 22. . In this part

Additionally, said lock 70-71-72 is normally prevented from being erased by the presence of a safety pin 73 extended beyond the envelopment of the safety device 3, by a pull ring 74.
On the same plate 20, in opposition to the plate 65, is fixed, by the screws 75-76, a cross member 77 made of an insulating material. On this crosspiece is fixed, by a screw 78, a metal plate 79 of which one of the ends, 80, is wound on itself so as to form a tubular element in which is firmly fixed the free end of the. aforesaid conductor 11 coming from the warhead generator 1. The outer longitudinal edge 81 is slightly raised upwards and the opposing longitudinal edge is partially extended and folded so as to present an elastic tongue 82 on the path of the aforesaid conical contact finger 60 carried by the barrel.

This arrangement of the primer safety device also has the following very particular characteristics: the barrel. 33. is, against the action of spring return
69, immobilized by the bolt 70-71-72 in such a way that the longitudinal axis DD of the primer 61 forms, with the longitudinal axis EE of the projectile, an angle [alpha] greater than 90 and generally - ment of the order of 120.
In this position, the solid part of the barrel 33 obstructs the orifice 26 establishing communication with the shaped charge. On the other hand, around the cylindrical body 19, is slid, with gentle friction, a light mantle 83 whose bottom has, centrally, an orifice 8 whose diameter is greater than the diameter of the base 71 of the lock. Also, in the extension of the axial orifice 27 of the cylindrical body 19 is provided a free space 85 whose depth L is greater than the length of the body 70 of the lock, the thickness of the base 71 included.
Yet another characteristic is found in the fact that the return spring 69 acts in the direction opposite to the direction of biasing of the barrel by the torque determined by the effect of inertia on the barrel, the center of gravity of which is moved relative to its axis of rotation -4- ±; in this case, the return spring 69 tends to make the barrel turn in the direction of arrow F1, while the inertial force due to the acceleration of the projectile urges said barrel in the direction of arrow F2.
With regard to the warhead generator, if it is piezoelectric, its face will be in contact with a generally metallic rigid wall, for example in hardened steel, hard brass or other and, in any case, d 'in such a way that sufficient force is transmitted to the crystal, whatever the position of the projectile on impact.
Also, a characteristic of the invention consists in
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
interpose.encore, between the crystal and said rigid wall, an envelope made of a material such that said crystal maintains maximum sensitivity. For the same safety purpose, the conducting wires of the detonator will preferably be chosen from a material such that oxidation can practically not modify the value of the electrical contact. We will therefore choose a conductor in stainless steel, silver or other suitable metal or alloy.
The operation of the projectile, thus conditioned, is understood as follows: at rest, the various constituent parts of the projectile are found as shown diagrammatically in their essential elements in FIGS. 1 to 11. The barrel 33 is immobilized by the bolt 70- 71-72, in such a way that the detonator 61 is moved away from the communication port 26 with the shaped charge at an angle greater than 90, said communication port being duly blocked by said barrel; the lock 70-71-72 is immobilized mainly by the pin 73 and, additionally, by the frictional force resulting from the pressure exerted by the pin 42 secured to the barrel, itself biased by the return spring 69.
The warhead generator. is connected, by the conductor 11, to the metal plate 79, the contact strip 82 of which is free. Furthermore, said generator is joined to ground.
Considering the detonator 61, one of its conductors 62 is connected to the wafer 59, ie therefore also to the contact finger 60 carried by the barrel. The second conductor 63 of the detonator -leur is connected to the mass of the barrel and, consequently also, of the other external metal parts of the projectile, via the screw 44 and the plate 64. Therefore, to close the circuit between the generator of warhead 1 and the detonator 61, it suffices to bring the finger 60 carried by the barrel 33 in contact with the strip 82. In the rest position, these two contact elements are mutual

-lement apart, as shown more specifically in Figures 4 and 6.
Before the firing of the projectile, the pin 73-74 is torn, which releases the rear part of the bolt 70-
71-72. The propulsion charge being ignited, the projectile is animated by a rapid accelerated movement. This movement has two almost instantaneous but successive effects. the first is to move the 'barrel 33 by a certain angle against the return inaction of the spring 69, in the direction of arrow F2. This angular movement moves the pin 42 away from the lock head 72, thus releasing the latter; the second effect is the rapid retreat of said lock 70-71-72 which falls into the free space 85 and completely frees the barrel 33.
The latter, under the inaction of the return spring 69, turns in the direction of the arrow Fl and is immobilized by the fact that said pin 42 abuts against the edge 86 of the plate 65 and this position being such that the .détona- t, eur 61 is located exactly opposite the passage opening
26 towards the shaped charge. 4 this moment, the finger 60 carried by the barrel comes into contact with the blade 82, thus closing the ignition circuit 'to the detonator.
The projectile therefore moves with the detonator circuit thus closed and in which the warhead generator 1 is located.
Consequently, on impact, whatever the position of the projectile at that moment, the shock transmitted to the piezoelectric generator will determine a quantity of electric current sufficient to generate the electric current necessary to ignite the detonator.
It can therefore be seen that the projectile thus conditioned comprises a safety assembly such that any: ease of accident is systematically excluded and that, moreover, firing can only be ensured under the conditions of use. normal: .projectile.
It is obvious that the different devices characteristi-

ques described above can be produced in essentially variable construction forms, each constituent element being able to be replaced by an element of equivalent function and the relative position of the elements being able itself to undergo certain modifications without changing function.
By way of indication, FIG. 12 shows a slight variant of the coupling means between the electrical conductor 11 and the tubular terminal 'of the warhead generator. In this case, a piece of electric wire 87, bent, is, by a branch and by means of a tightening screw 88, firmly fixed on said terminal 9; said piece of wire 87 is fixed to the electrical conductor 11 by a coupling piece 89.
As regards the conductor 11, it is characteristically arranged along the internal wall of the cylindro-biconical head 2. In the previous example, it passes through the wall of the shaped charge. In the example shown schematically in FIG. 13, it passes through the ring 90 in line with an extra thickness 91.
It is also obvious that all the arrangements described will be duly adapted to the type of projectile to be equipped and that the invention also extends to all the projectiles thus equipped.
