<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The invention relates to a connector for metal sheet piles of the type comprising a profiled body with two male ends, each connector or interlocking claw having two longitudinal recesses having a section corresponding to that of the male ends, generally dovetailed.
The known fittings of this kind are perfectly suitable for the execution of sheet pile walls forming straight or slightly curved walls, but do not allow angles to be executed, for example a change of direction of 90 at the end of such wall or branch at 90, single or double, at a specific point thereof. The realization of these angles until now required the use of special parts generally constituted by combined sheet piles, for example
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
example a half sheet pile body welded to an ordinary sheet pile body and reinforced by welded angles or the like.
Such special parts are very expensive and their preparation can seriously delay the execution of the sheet curtain.
The object of the invention is to create a sheet pile connection which avoids these drawbacks and allows the angles to be made without having to resort to the use of special parts. 'A connector according to the invention is essentially characterized in that it is constituted by a usual -claw, that is to say provided with two recesses located in a longitudinal plane, which is provided, in addition, with two male ends of corresponding shape, located in a longitudinal plane perpendicular to said plane.
Such a fitting can be rolled to shape and is an inexpensive part. It can be used in place of a usual fitting to replace all or some of the fittings of a conventional alplanche curtain, so that angles and branches can be made at each of these fittings. using only standard sheet piles and fittings.
Some applications of a connector according to the invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings which show cross-sectional views of the various assemblies envisaged.
Figure 1 shows a connector 1 according to the invention.
It consists of an interlocking claw having two recesses 2 arranged in alignment and two male ends or tenons 3 of corresponding force, generally dovetail, placed at right angles to said recesses.
As shown in Figure 2, such a connection can be provided between the sheet piles 4 and 5 of a curtain forming a wall called rectilinear.
At the location of connection 1, a

@ or two branches at 90 using sheet piles 7 and 8 fitted with ordinary claws 6. A simple branch is shown in figure 3, in which case a simplified connection can also be used, comprising only one male end 3.
Known shown in FIG. 4, the connector according to the invention makes it possible to continue driving at right angles to the end of a sheet pile wall 4, both to the left and to the right of the wall, using claws 6 and sheet piles 7 or 8.
A sheet pile wall provided with connectors according to the invention makes it possible to cope. to practically all the necessities that may arise during the execution of the work. The formation of angles does not present any difficulty, nor the execution of two curtains which intersect or cofferdams with the most capricious shapes.
In addition, the invention provides a rational and economical solution to the problem of the resistance of the rectilinear walls of a cofferdam to the external thrust of the water or of the earth which surrounds the dry cofferdam. For this purpose we have often had recourse to the counter by a gravel embankment, which however requires an increase in the dimensions of the cofferdam and gives rise to costly handling of gravel. Thanks to the provision of fittings according to the invention, it will suffice to graft onto the walls a few buttresses constituted by branches of a small number of sheet piles, as shown in FIG. 7, these buttresses making it possible to reduce the dimensions of the cofferdam and to eliminate or 'reduce the counter-butt.
The number of these buttresses can be very high, because it is possible, if necessary, to add one to each connection, both inside and outside the cofferdam. In the event that sealing is used to reinforce the cofferdam, the presence of the free male ends of the fittings will also make it possible to mechanically subject supports integral with the wall, for example by sliding, on

some male ends, a sheet pile of suitable length, the upper end of which will provide a perfect base for the elements? shoring.
When the sheet pile is used as protection of bank walls, powerful anchors formed by back waste sheet piles can be slipped on the male ends,
In some of its applications, the connector according to the invention will have superfluous elements which will not, however, be of any concern. To form an angle at the end of the wall, as illustrated in the fiuie $, one could for example use a simplified connector as shown in FIG. 5 for a single angle, or in FIG. 6 for a double outlet.
These simplified couplings, although also meeting certain peculiarities of the invention, could however find only limited applications, while the coupling according to FIG. 1 has the great advantage of being a universal coupling which can be substituted for any common connection in a sheet pile wall.
