<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc / Clms Page number 1>
In many applications) it is desirable to impart ripples or regularities to textile yarns or filaments; the individual filaments or fibers are then twisted or crimped and the yarn exhibits a woolly appearance and feel, giving it some of the characteristics of natural fibers while otherwise giving it a degree of elas. noticeable ticity.
A method currently used for this purpose consists of imparting a twist to the yarn, fixing this twist by subjecting the yarn to heat, and then finally untwisting said yarn.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This process, which comprises three separate operations with intermediate handling and which requires a lot of time, is expensive and requires expensive apparatus.
An improvement of this process, in which the crimping of the yarn is carried out in a single operation, consists in imparting a false twist to the yarn and applying heat to it to fix this twist at the moment when it is imparted to it. For this purpose, the wire is unwound from a reserve and is passed through a heating chamber on its way to a false twist head where the twist and untwist take place, the wire being twisted in its part which extends between the head and the reserve, including the length of this wire which is inside the heating chamber, and being on the contrary untwisted from the moment when it leaves the head to reach to a known type winder device where it is wound on a tube of paper or the like in order to constitute a spool of treated thread.
This one-step process for waving synthetic yarns is much more efficient than the three-step process, but it requires very expensive mechanisms and production is limited by the speed at which the false twist heads can be operated.
The present invention aims to make it possible to establish a method and devices for waving textile yarns or filaments, by virtue of which the use of false twist heads is avoided, the speed of the operation being able to be increased compared to the methods. false twist mentioned above.
According to the invention, the wire to be corrugated is moved longitudinally by making it pass in contact with a belt which runs across the direction of movement of the wire itself, so as to impart false twist to this wire. , we change the direction of movement of the wire when it leaves the belt, and we fix the twist of this wire on one side of this belt. This fixing can be carried out by applying
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
tion of heat to the wire. Preferably; the wire is successively passed in contact with two belt strands which circulate across the path followed by the wire, these two strands themselves being able to circulate in the opposite direction to each other .
One can, for example, use an endless belt stretched between two pulleys and pass the wire over one of the strands of this belt, then under the other strand of the latter. In a variant, one can provide two endless belts, the wire passing over a strand of one of the belts, then under a strand of the other. When the wire thus passes successively in contact with two strands of belts, it therefore follows a path in a broken line, its orientation changing each time it leaves one of the strands; Its final sound can then be substantially the same as that which it was following when it came into contact with the first strand of neck or else be parallel thereto.
It is preferable that the fixing of the twist is effected on the wire at the point where the latter approaches the belt or the first strand of belt with which it is to come into contact; torsion imparted to the wire disappears when the latter moves away from the single strand of the belt or, depending on the case, from the second strand of belt with which it comes into contact,
The appended drawing, given by way of example, will make it possible to better understand the invention, the characteristics that it has and the advantages that it is likely to provide:

The machine. waving the wire shown in Figures 1 to 8 cômporte a frame 20 on which are mounted a series of posts ;: suitably spaced from each other between the ends of said frame. Each station includes a device suitable for supporting a reserve spool of thread in the bottom of the frame; above each of the aforementioned devices, the frame carries a heating device 22, a false twist mechanism 24 and a device for wrapping the treated yarn in the form of a spool.
The device for supporting the spools of thread can be of any known or suitable construction. The number of stations mounted on the frame 20 depends on the length thereof.
The heating device comprises a vertical cylinder 26 which encloses an element 28 of electric heating resistance. this cylinder being split longitudinally and its two halves being articulated to one another so that they can open, as shown in FIG. 3, to facilitate the placement of the wire inside it.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Control devices are provided for controlling the temperature prevailing inside cylinder 26, these devices possibly comprising a thermostat.
The false twist mechanism 24 includes two endless belts 30, 32 (Figures 3 and 4), the belt 30 being disposed immediately above the belt 32. Each belt
30 or 32 passes over two pulleys suitably spaced from one another, respectively 34, 36 and 38, 40, the pulleys which correspond to the two belts rotating around vertucal axes aligned two by two. The two pulleys 36 and 40 constitute a single piece and they are mounted on a shaft 42 supported by a bearing
44 fixed to the frame 20.
The shaft 42 carries another pulley 45, which is driven by a belt 46 (Figures 1 and 3) passing over a pulley 48 mounted on a general motor shaft 50 which runs the entire length of the frame.
The second pulley 38 of the belt 32 is rotatably mounted on a support 52 (FIG. 4) slidably carried by two arms 54 fixed to the bearing 44. Two springs 56 are interposed between the support 52 and the bearing 44 in order to tend to move this support away from the bearing to keep the belt 32 taut.
The pulley 34 of the belt 30 is also rotatably mounted on a support 58 slidably carried by two parallel arms 60, which are fixed to a bearing 62 integral with the lower end of a shaft 64, itself rotatably mounted. in a bearing 66, the axis of the shaft 64 being aligned with that of the shaft 42. To keep the belt 30 taut, two springs
68 are interposed between the support 58 and the bearing 62 in order to tend to push back said support relative to the bearing.
The belt 30 is held above the belt
32 by means of an elastic pawl 70 mounted in the bearing 66 and which engages in a longitudinal groove 72 of the shaft 64.
However, the belt 30 can be moved around the axis of the shaft,
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
64 so as to dispose it at a certain angle relative to the belt 32, as shown in Figures 6 and 7. To retain the belt 30 in this angularly offset position, a second longitudinal groove is provided on the shaft 64 ( not shown adapted to receive the spring pawl 70 when the belt 30 has been brought to the offset position in question.
It is preferable that the linear speed of the upper belt 30 is slightly greater than that of the lower belt 32. For this purpose, the pulley 36 of the upper belt. The upper 30 is slightly larger in diameter than the corresponding pulley 40 of the lower belt 32.
To guide the thread as it passes through the wave mechanism, there is provided a thread guide 172 in the form of (mounted on the support 52 in the vicinity of the strand of the belt 32 which runs forward in 'Figure 4 and towards the middle of the length of this bri. Another yarn guide 74 is disposed in the vicinity of the rear end of the belt 30, at a position similar to that of the guide 172, this guide 74 being fixed to the support 58.
In the construction described above, the belts are arranged substantially at right angles to the front or rear sides of the machine; therefore, the term leading strand of a belt corresponds to the strand which faces towards one end of the machine, while the rear strand is that which faces towards the other end of the machine. It will be understood that the rear face of the machine could carry a series of corrugating stations similar to those provided on the front face thereof, the belts of all the stations being driven by the general horizontal motor shaft 50 arranged. in the longitudinal axis of the machine frame.
The yarn feeder device, indicated at 76 in Figures 1, 2 and 3, is of a well known type comprising a drive roller 78 suitable for being driven by the drive shaft 50, a
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
reciprocating mechanism 80, and a device intended to support a reel or the like, the arrangement being such that when this reel is mounted in said device, its periphery comes into contact with that of the roller which transmits its power to it. drive movement.
Between the device for supporting the spools of wire and the heating device is mounted a mechanism 81 for driving the wire. A similar mechanism 83 is mounted between the false twist mechanism and the thread feeder device. Each of these drive mechanisms comprises a driving roller 82 and an idler roller 84 mounted on the free end of an arm 06 articulated on the frame 20, each of said arms 86 also carrying a guide eyelet 88.
To wave yarn by means of the machine described above /; a spool of this wire is mounted on the support provided in the lower part of the frame 20. The free end of the wire is then passed through a device 90 which provides the initial tension. The wire is then passed through the drive mechanism 81, into the heating device 22 inside which it is located in the vicinity of the heating element 28; this is brought to the false twist mechanism 24 in which the belt 30 has been angularly offset with respect to the belt 32, as shown in Figure 6 of the drawing. The yarn is then passed through guide 172 and fed to drive mechanism 83 from where it is passed to winder 76.
The heater 22 is closed and locked in the closed position, then the belt 30 of the false torsion mechanism is returned to the position in which it is above the belt 32 and centered with respect to. this one. During this return movement the yarn guide 74 comes into contact with the yarn so that the latter is then stretched over the front end of the belt 32 and under the rear end of the belt 30.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The machine is then started. The yarn is pulled through the false twist mechanism and since the belts 30 and 32 run at right angles to the direction of movement of this yarn, a false twist is imparted to the latter. Although the front run of the belt 32 runs in the opposite direction to the rear run of the belt 30, each of the two belts imparts to the yarn a twist in the same direction because these belts come into contact with the yarn on two opposite sides of the yarn. -this. It therefore appears on the wire a twist in one direction above the belts and a twist in the opposite direction below them, but the torsion imparted by the belts is no longer found in the wire when the latter reaches the drive mechanism 83.
The twist below the belts goes up the wire inside the heater which is intended to fix this twist, but above the belts the twist disappears and therefore the individual filaments of the wire tend to crimp when the tension of this thread is released. The speed of the drive mechanism 83 is determined relative to that of the feeder device so as to release the thread tension to a predetermined extent. The end result is that the yarn is permanently given a crimped or woolly appearance.
In the particular arrangement described above, two belts are provided at each station to cooperate with a single wire. However, it will be understood that each pair of belts can be arranged so as to come into contact with two or more threads.
In addition, the belts can be arranged at right angles to the paths followed by the wires, or they can have a certain inclination relative to these paths, for example 45. It is preferable that the two belts are parallel to each other, but they could be provided obliquely with respect to each other, if desired.
In the embodiment shown in Figures 9 and

10 of the drawings, a frame, not shown, comprises a series of wire corrugation stations arranged at a certain spacing from each other between the ends of the frame, each station comprising a device for supporting the spool of wire to be treated ( not shown), a heating device 100 set up as described in the previous example, a wire twisting mechanism and a envy device not shown. Except for the torsion mechanism, the machine is similar to that previously described. the torsion mechanism is common to all stations.
It comprises an endless belt 102 which runs the length of the frame and which is disposed above and behind the heaters 100, the front and rear strands of the belt being disposed one behind the other, so preferably in the same horizontal plane.
The belt 102 is supported by a series of runners or guide pulleys 104 suitably spaced from one another. It passes over a driving pulley 106 mounted on a driving shaft 108. Means, not shown, are provided to make it possible to vary the speed of this belt. Son guides 110 are arranged behind said belt 102.
Wire drive mechanisms, not shown and which can be set up in the same way as those described in the previous example, are arranged, on the one hand, between the support devices of the wire spools and the devices. heaters, and, on the other hand, between the torsion mechanism and the sending devices. At each station, the wire passes through the heating device 100 from bottom to top, passes over the front end of the belt 102, returns with a slight inclination in the direction of the bottom to pass under the rear end of this belt, then goes up to go to the bottom. drive mechanism and to the sending device.

In this embodiment, the false twist is part of the yarn as in the previously described construction, the twist of the yarn below the belt being fixed by the heaters, so that when this yarn reaches the end of the belt. drive mechanism, the torsion has disappeared, but the individual filaments are crimped.
It is preferable that the yarn corrugation stations are divided into two groups and that a separate belt is provided for each group so as to prevent the single belt from being excessively long. On the other hand, a second series of corrugation stations can be provided on the rear of the frame of the machine, exactly similar to those provided on the front of this frame, the common motor shaft extending in the axis of the frame to drive all the belts. As shown in FIG. 9, the guide pulleys 104 are arranged between the successive stations, each coming into contact with the two strands of the belt.
The pulleys 104 are carried by consoles attached to a bar which runs the entire length of the frame. The tension of the wires tends to keep the belt in contact with these guide pulleys.
The straps intended to come into contact with the son can be made of any suitable material; this material may depend on the type of yarn or textile filament with which the belts are to be used. The belts must provide the necessary contact friction to impart the desired false twist to the wire, but they must be hard enough to withstand the wear to which they are subjected. These belts can therefore be made of natural or synthetic rubber. It has been found, for example, that a synthetic rubber having a Shore hardness of between 70 and 85 is satisfactory for the treatment of polyester yarns.
Furthermore, when two belts are used, they may be made of different materials and / or have sections of different shapes.

different and / or different surfaces, ie the surfaces can be smooth or rough, for example, be ribbed or similarly made. It is preferable that the belts have a circular section, but any other suitable section shape can be used.
It must also be understood that the above description has been given only by way of example and that it in no way limits the field of the invention, which would not be departed from by replacing the details of execution described. by all other equivalents.
