Machine for the production of crimped textile yarns In many applications it is desirable to start corrugations or irregularities in textile yarns or filaments; the individual filaments or fibers are then twisted or crimped and the yarn has a woolly appearance and feel, which gives it some of the characteristics of natural fibers while also giving it a significant degree of elasticity.
A method currently used for this purpose consists of imparting a twist to the yarn, fixing this twist by subjecting the yarn to heat, and then finally untwisting said yarn. This process, which comprises three separate operations with intermediate manipulations and which requires a lot of time, is expensive and requires expensive apparatus.
An improvement of this process, in which the corrugations of the yarn are produced in a single operation, consists in imparting a false twist to the yarn and in applying heat to it in order to fix this twist when it is imparted to it.
For this purpose, the wire is unwound from a reserve and it is passed through a heating chamber on its way to a false torsion head where the twisting and untwisting take place, the wire being twisted in its part which extends between the head and the reserve, including the length of this wire which is inside the heating chamber, and being on the contrary untwisted from the moment when it leaves the head to get to a dispenser device of known type where it is wound on a paper tube or the like in order to constitute a coil of treated thread.
This one-step process for waving synthetic yarns is much more efficient than the three-step process, but it requires very expensive mechanisms and production is limited by the speed at which the false twist heads can be operated.
The present invention relates to a machine for the manufacture of crimped textile yarns, which eliminates the above-mentioned drawbacks. To this end, it is characterized in that it comprises mechanisms for moving the wire longitudinally, at least one endless belt disposed across the path followed by the wire and suitable for coming into contact with the latter during its movement. so as to impart false twist to it, means for modifying the direction of movement of the yarn when it leaves the belt, and a device placed in the path followed by the yarn, near the belt, to fix the twist of the yarn.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the machine forming the subject of the invention.

Fig. 9 is a schematic perspective view showing another embodiment of the machine according to the invention.
Fig. 10 is a section along X-X (fig. 9). The wire crimping machine shown in fig. 1 to 8 comprises a frame 20 on which are mounted a series of stations suitably spaced from one another between the ends of said frame.
Each station includes a device suitable for supporting a reserve spool of wire in the bottom of the frame; above each of the aforementioned devices, the frame carries a heating device 22, a false twist mechanism 24 and a device for wrapping the treated yarn in the form of a coil.
The device for supporting the spools of thread can be of any known construction. The number of stations mounted on the frame 20 depends on the length thereof.
The heating device comprises a vertical cylinder 26 which encloses an electric resistance heating element 28, this cylinder being split lengthwise and its two halves being articulated to one another so that they can open, as shown. in fig. 3, to facilitate the placement of the wire inside it.
Control devices make it possible to control the temperature which prevails inside the cylinder 26, these devices possibly comprising a thermostat.
The false: torsion mechanism 24 comprises two endless belts 30, 32 (Figs. 3 and 4), the belt 30 being disposed immediately above the belt 32. Each belt 30 or 32 passes over two spaced pulleys 1 '. one on the other, respectively 34, 36 and 38, 40, the pulleys which correspond to the two belts rotating around vertical axes aligned two by two. The two pulleys 36 and 40 constitute a single piece and they are mounted on a shaft 42 supported by a bearing 44 fixed to the frame 20.
The shaft 42 carries another pulley 45, which is driven by a belt 46 (Figs. 1 and 3) passing over a pulley 48 mounted on a general motor shaft 50 which runs the entire length of the frame.
The second pulley 38 of the belt 32 is mounted so as to rotate on a support 52 (FIG. 4) slidably carried by two arms 54 fixed to the bearing 44. Two springs 56 are interposed between the support 52 and the bearing 44 in view. to tend to move this support away from the bearing to keep the belt 32 taut.
The pulley 34 of the belt 30 is also rotatably mounted on a support 58 slidably carried by two parallel arms 60, which are fixed to a bearing 62 integral with the lower end of a shaft 64, itself mounted at rotation in a bearing 66, the axis of the shaft 64 being aligned with that of the shaft 42. To keep the belt 30 taut, two springs 68 are interposed between the support 58 and the bearing 62 in order to tend to push back said support relative to the bearing.
The belt 30 is held above the belt 32 by means of a resilient pawl 70 mounted in the bearing 66 and which engages in a longitudinal groove 72 of the shaft 64. But the belt can be moved. 30 around the axis of the shaft 64 so as to dispose it at an angle to the belt 32, as shown in FIG. 6 and 7. To retain the belt 30 in this angularly offset position, the shaft 64 has a second longitudinal groove (not shown) suitable for receiving the spring pawl 70 when the belt 30 has been brought to the offset position in question.
It is preferable that the linear speed of the upper belt 30 is slightly greater than that of the lower belt 32. For this purpose the pulley 36 of the upper belt 30 is a little larger in diameter than the corresponding pulley 40 of the upper belt 30. lower belt 32.
To guide the thread as it passes through the false twist mechanism, a V-shaped thread guide 172 is mounted on the support 52 in the vicinity of the strand of the belt 32 which is located forward in FIG. 4 and about the middle of the length of this strand. Another yarn guide 74 is arranged in the vicinity of the rear end of the belt 30, at a position similar to that of the guide 172, this guide 74 being fixed to the support 58.
In. In the embodiment described above, the belts are arranged substantially at right angles to the front or rear sides of the machine; therefore the term front end of a belt corresponds to the strand which is turned towards one end of the machine while the rear end is that which faces towards the other end thereof. It is understood that the rear face of the machine could carry a series of wave stations similar to those provided on the front face thereof, the belts of all the stations being dragged by the general horizontal motor shaft 50 dis installed in the longitudinal axis of the machine frame.
The thread feeder device, indicated at 76 in fig. 1, 2 and 3, is of a well-known type comprising a drive roller 78- able to be driven by the motor shaft 50, a reciprocating member 80, and means intended to support a spool or the like, the arrangement being such that when this coil is mounted on said means, its periphery comes into contact with that of the roller which transmits its driving movement to it. Between the device for supporting the spools of wire and the heating device is mounted a mechanism 81 for driving the wire.
A similar mechanism 83 is mounted between the false twist mechanism and the thread feeder device. Each of these drive mechanisms comprises a driving roller 82 and an idle roller 84 mounted on the free end of an arm 86 articulated on the frame 20, each of said arms 86 also carrying a guide eyelet 88.
To curl wire by means of the above-described machine, "a spool of this wire is mounted on the support arranged at the lower part of the frame 20. The free end of the wire is then passed through a device 90 which ensures the initial tension. The wire is then passed through the drive mechanism 81, into the heating device 22 inside which it is located in the vicinity of the heating element 28; it is brought to the false mechanism. torsion 24 in which the belt 30 has been angularly offset from the belt 32, as shown in Fig. 6.
The yarn is then passed through guide 172 and brought to drive mechanism 83 from where it is passed to unwinding device 76. Heater 22 is closed and locked in the closed position, then brought back. the belt 30 of the false torsion mechanism in the position in which it is above the belt 32 and centered with respect to the latter. During this return movement the yarn guide 74 comes into contact with the yarn so that the latter is then stretched over the front end of the belt 32 and under the rear end of the belt 30.
The machine is then started. The yarn is pulled through the false twist mechanism and since the belts 30 and 32 run at right angles to the direction of movement of this yarn, a false twist is imparted to the latter. Although the front end of the belt 32 runs in the opposite direction to the rear end of the belt 30, each of the two belts gives the wire a twist in the same direction because these belts come into contact with the wire on two opposite sides. of the latter (see in particular fig. 8).
It therefore appears on the wire a twist in one direction above the belts and a twist in the opposite direction below them, but the torsion imparted by the belts is no longer found in the wire when it reaches the drive mechanism 83. The twist below the belts goes up the wire inside the heating device which aims to fix this twist, but above the belts the twist disappears and therefore the filaments Individual threads tend to crimp when the tension in that thread is released. The speed of the drive mechanism 83 is determined relative to that of the feeder device so as to release the thread tension to a predetermined extent.
The end result is that the yarn is permanently given a crimped or woolly appearance. The embodiment described above has two belts at each station to cooperate with a single wire. But it is understood that each pair of belts can be arranged so as to come into contact with two or more threads. Further, the belts may be arranged at right angles to the paths followed by the threads, or they may have a certain inclination relative to these paths, for example 45 ". It is preferable that the two belts are parallel to each other. one to the other, but they could be made oblique to each other, if desired.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 9 and 10, a frame, not shown, comprises a series of wire crimping stations arranged at a certain distance from each other between the ends of the frame, each station comprising a device for supporting the spool of wire to be treated ( not shown), a heating device 100 establishes as described in the previous example, a false twist mechanism of the yarn and an unsheathing device not shown. Except for the false torsion mechanism, the machine is similar to that previously described.
The false twist mechanism is common to all stations. It comprises an endless belt 10.2 which runs the length of the frame and which is arranged above and behind the heaters 100, the front and rear strands of the belt being arranged one behind the. 'other, preferably in the same horizontal plane.
The belt 102 is supported by a series of runners or guide pulleys 104 suitably spaced from one another. It passes over a driving pulley 106 mounted on a driving shaft 108. Means, not shown, make it possible to vary the speed of this belt. Thread guides 110 are placed behind said belt 102.
Wire drive mechanisms, not shown and which can be established in the same way as those described in the preceding example, are arranged on the one hand between the support devices for the wire spools and the heating devices, and on the other hand between the false torsion mechanism and the envider dis positive. At each station, the wire passes through the heater 100 from bottom to top, passes over the anterior end of the belt 102, returns with a slight inclination towards the bottom to pass under the posterior strand of this belt, then rises again to go. to the drive mechanism and to the sending device.
In this embodiment, the false twist is imparted to the wire as in the embodiment previously described, the twist of the wire below the belt being fixed by the heating device, so that when this wire reaches the drive mechanism, the torsion is gone, but the individual filaments are crimped.
It is preferable that the wire crimping stations are divided into two groups and that there is a separate belt for each group so as to prevent the single belt from being excessively long. On the other hand, a second series of crimping stations can be arranged on the rear of the frame of the machine, exactly similar to the stations placed on the front of this frame, the common motor shaft extending in the axis. of the frame to drive all the belts. As shown in fig. 9, the guide pulleys 104 are arranged between the successive stations, each coming into contact with the two strands of the belt.
The pulleys 104 are carried by consoles attached to a bar which runs the entire length of the frame. The tension of the wires tends to keep the belt in contact with these guide pulleys.
The straps intended to come into contact with the son can be made of any suitable material; this material may depend on the type of yarn or textile filament with which the belts are to be used. The belts must provide the contact friction necessary to impart the desired false twist to the wire, but they must be hard enough to withstand the wear to which they are subjected. These belts can therefore be made of natural or synthetic rubber. It has been found, for example, that a synthetic rubber having a Shore hardness of between 70 and 85 was satisfactory for the treatment of polyester yarns.
Furthermore, when two belts are used, these can be made of different materials and / or have different shaped sections and / or different surfaces, i.e. the surfaces can be smooth or rough, for example be ribbed or similarly made. It is preferable that the belts are of circular section, but any other form of suitable section can be used.
