<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

In a motor vehicle, we know that ±? - The speed is varied by acting on the. carburetor control, usually by depressing a foot operated pedal and a spring returns to the throttle closed position.
In current vehicles, this pedal is mounted to pivot, its free end being arranged to be able to undergo a certain displacement; to actuate this pivoting pedal, the tip of the foot is placed on the free end of the pedal, the heel resting on the floor of the vehicle. In ordinary vehicles, the driver is thus in an uncomfortable situation because this position of the foot is a source of fatigue.
The present invention relates to an accelerator pedal which comprises a movable, sliding element
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
along a fixed support and on which rests the entire foot which produces the displacement of said element in order to act on the control of the carburetor.
In an advantageous embodiment, the sliding movable element consists of a support plate for the foot, movable along a fixed support to which it is parallel and which is inclined to the horizontal.
According to une'variante execution, Movable and sliding isolation has the shape of a wedge of triangular section, one face of which serves as a support for the foot; this element is movable along a horizontal support.
Other features may appear in the following description of the accompanying drawings.
Figures 1 and 2 are schematic, partial, perspective views showing, by way of illustration only, two embodiments of the invention.
In the drawings, only the elements necessary for an understanding of the invention are shown.
The pedal according to the invention is placed on the bottom of the cabin in the appropriate place, in front of the driver's seat.
In the embodiment of FIG. 1, the pedal consists of a plate 2 sliding on the support 3, the front end of which is only visible. This inclined support is carried on supports such as 4.
The plate 2 has its two lateral edges 2a curved in order to coat the lateral edges of the support 3.
In the appropriate place the plate 2 is provided with the rib 2b against which the heel of the shoe of the

driver thus making it possible to push it forward following arrow X and thus to actuate the control (not shown) of the carburetor which can be a push rod or a traction system. At the rear is a center stop 5 which the plate 2 comes to a stop under the action of return springs located at @ and acting by the rods Ca.
In the variant embodiment of FIG. 2, the pedal 7 is similar to a wedge, that is to say it comprises an inclined surface 7a serving as a support for the. foot

in a horizontal surface 7b.
Solid with the pedal are two lateral shoulders @ which are housed in the slides 9 which serve as a guide. On the face 7a there is a rib 10 to which the heel hooks, which allows the pedal to be pushed along the. arrow Y. The pedal is returned by lateral springs 9a until it abuts against the part 11 forming a stopper. In this embodiment, the horizontal slides are fixed for example on the horizontal bottom of the cabin; the pedal which has just been described also acts on the control of the carburetor by a push rod or by a traction device.
The embodiments described above are only intended to explain the invention; they are liable to undergo various adaptations in order to make their use and operation practical; it is thus possible to provide the pedal with roller or ball devices so as to facilitate their sliding.
