La figure I est une coupe verticale partielle de l'étan- çôn selon A.B. de la figure 2;
La figure 2 est une coupe partielle selon la ligne D.C. de la figure I;
La figure 3 est une coupe selon la ligne brisée E.F.G.H. de la figure I;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

In the main patent n.545 * 846, it is described a metal prop of circular cross section and which is lockable in its height extension by means of a special profile roller housed in a side bracket to the shaft and whose axis is maintained in a horizontal position between an upper key and a lower key.
The present invention relates to improvements to 1l'etancon metal of the aforesaid type. The object of these is to achieve more efficient support and construction.
To this end, the fixed barrel and the mobile upright, both with cylindrical sections are replaced, on the one hand by a fixed barrel and on the other hand by a mobile upright, both of rectangular shape, allowing the cylindrical roller, lo -

, gé danslétrier of the barrel to press along an entire generatrix and normally in the vertical plane of the sliding part and thus obtain a considerable increase in sliding resistance.
. By inserting the upper key, pressure is produced on the roller and thus initiates and amplifies the automatic wedging effect at a high pressure which is a function of the inclination of the caliper as well as the resistance to friction and pressure. bearing, this according to the nature of the metals used.
On the other hand, the lower key, by its established position during assembly, enables the roller to be released and the required sliding height to be gradually adjusted.
A rectangular shape of the shaft and the upright allows a construction of suitable materials and in particular by suitably welded profiles. This latter type of construction uses materials of suitable resistance, high safety and of known and controllable metallographic quality.
As in basic invention No. 545.846, an advantageous embodiment makes it possible to carry out the movable upright by surmounting it with a cap comprising a second upright or tube sliding on the first. In this case, the second sliding upright and the first sliding upright have opposing openings suitable for inserting a key to roughly adjust the height of the bonnet relative to the first sliding upright. This allows the top of the bonnet to be placed in the immediate surroundings of the ceiling which it must support.
The details and features of the present invention will emerge more clearly from an exemplary embodiment.

a metal clamp, the description of which is given below, without limitation and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: @
Figure I is a partial vertical section of the seal according to A.B. of Figure 2;
Figure 2 is a partial section along the line D.C. of Figure I;
Figure 3 is a section along the broken line E.F.G.H. of Figure I;
-The metal prop shown comprises a foot I which is integral with a barrel of rectangular section 2 in which is able to slide an upright 3 also of rectangular section and fitted at its upper part in a cap not shown but forming a removable body with him.
The barrel 2 is integral with a bracket-housing formed of two lateral and parallel flanges whose faces are integral with the upper part of the barrel 2. These flanges are interconnected by an inclined wall 7 forming with the axis of the prop at an angle a. Preferably! The bracket-housing 7 is closed at its upper part by a plate, which in the example shown is level with the upper edge of the barrel 2.
Inside the bracket-housing 7, the barrel 2 is open so as to release the mobile upright 3.
The housing 7 contains a roller 12, the axis of which has a natural tendency to maintain itself in a horizontal position. The roller is able to move freely between the lateral flanges of the caliper-boot. It is understood that by gravity, the roller 12 will have therefore tendency to descend along the inclined wall 7 and to get stuck between the latter and the movable upright 3, to press the latter against the opposite wall of the barrel 2 and thus maintain it in a position of adjustable height.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
To release the roller 12 and release the movable upright 3, a release key 13 is used, in a known manner, passing under the roller 12. This key is engaged in opposite openings, suitable and provided in the side flanges. of the housing bracket 7. By pushing in the release key 13, the roller 12 is pushed upwards and stops pressing the mobile upright 3 against the barrel 2. At its ends, the release key 13 is provided with stops preventing its exit from the openings made in the flanges. These stops are conditioned in such a way as to allow easy wedging, for example, with hammer blows.
The friction of the upright 3 against the shank 2 and the rigorously vertical and sliding position of the first with respect to the second are ensured automatically according to a particularly favorable friction coefficient.
As emerges from the above, in the prop according to the invention, the height position of the mobile upright 3 is ensured directly or indirectly along a surface and two ridges of the roller.
According to the invention, in order to accentuate the permanent horizontality of the axis of the roller 12, when the latter is in the locking position, a locking key 20 is provided with a horizontal lower edge. This passes over the roller 12 which it presses downwards and is also retained in the appropriate openings made in the side flanges of the bracket-housing 7.
By the depression of the locking key 20, the wedging of the roller 12 is anchored and then reinforced as a result of the inclination of the wall 7.11 there will consequently be no tandenes on the tilting of the roller 12 which will remain by - horizontally, ensuring perfect contact with the upright 5.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Since the key 20 can be kept in place in the yoke-housing, its ends also have organized butcs to allow the release and the engagement, possibly with hammer blows. bur release the movable upright 3, the key @ locking 20 is released, then the release key 13 is pushed in, which lifts the roller 12.
Advantageously and to allow the flow of water which would have entered the barrel 2, the latter comprises. its lower part of the holes 26, near the foot I.
It is understood that the intention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above with reference to the appended drawings, and that modifications could be made thereto, provided that they are not in contradiction with the either of the subsequent claims.
CLAIMS I.-Metal prop composed in particular of an upright with a rectangular section slidable in a barrel also with a rectangular section and open facing a bracket-box which it supports and which has a wall inclined downwards and opposite the upright mobile, a roller whose axis is kept horizontal for blocking at will height of the mobile upright against the barrel, by its wedging between the mobile upright and the wall inclined downwards, and a key or similar lower to the roller for release, characterized in that the cylindrical roller bears against the inclined wall and that of the sliding upright.
