Dans ces dessins : - la figure 1 est une vue en perspective d'une forme d'exécution du dispositif suivant l'invention, en forme de plaquette; - la figure 2 montre, également en perspecti- ve, une seconde forme d'exécution de ce dispositif, en forme de troche;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
- la figure. 3 montre une troisième forme, d'exécution du dispositif suivant l'invention avec un. fil en spirale; - les figures 4 et 5'sont deux coupes, trans versales différentes d'une forme dtexécution selon la fi gure 3 ; - les 'figures 6 et 7 montrent encore deux for- mes d'exécution de l'invention;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The invention relates to a device for igniting gaseous or liquid fuels, operating according to the principle of the sliding spark and provided with two electrodes separated from each other by an insulating or semi-insulating material. -conductive and made of molybdenum, tungsten or a similar material capable of withstanding high temperatures, as described in the Dutch patent
EMI1.1
Landes n, 07'7.0'16.
In the manufacture of the electrodes, one generally starts with a round wire, the spark bursting edges of which are ground so as to be flat or oblique. The wire serves its entire length as a place where the spark can explode.
Part of this material, which is very expensive, is therefore already lost during the manufacture of the electrodes. During the use of the spark plug, another part of the material constituting the electrodes is consumed and when the spark plug has reached the end of its service life a large part of the material in question still remains in the holder. the candle, this last part also being lost.
Thus, tests have revealed that about 4 / 5th of the constituent material of the electrodes is lost and that only 1 / 5th of this material is useful.
The object of the invention is a stripping device arranged, on the one hand, so that, during its service life, all the material is usefully used and, on the other hand, so that a duration of appreciably longer and practically even predeterminable service can be achieved.
According to the invention, at least one of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
electrodes can, for this purpose, be formed by a wire or a very thin strip, which is fixed on or in the insulating or semiconducting material, so that only the extremi-. tee of wire or tape serves as the spot where the spark bursts.
It should be noted that we already know from Dutch patent No. 71,869 a spark plug, one or both electrodes of which are formed by a wire, which winds through the insulating or semiconducting material and of which only the end serves as a place where the spark bursts. In this case, however, the candle serves as the light source of an arc lamp, while the electrode or the filiform electrodes, which are made of a material which vaporizes easily, are mounted so as to be able to grout. - press or slide into the insulating or semi-conductive material, so that, as the electrodes burn, the distance between them can be kept constant.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which show some exemplary embodiments thereof. It should be noted that the parts of the device are shown in these drawings on a greatly enlarged scale, the wires used having, for example, a diameter of the order of 0.1 to 0.5 mm and the remaining parts having dimensions in relation to those of these wires.
In these drawings: - Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the device according to the invention, in the form of a plate; FIG. 2 shows, also in perspective, a second embodiment of this device, in the form of a troche;
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
- the figure. 3 shows a third embodiment of the device according to the invention with a. spiral wire; - Figures 4 and 5 ′ are two cross sections, different cross sections of a form of execution according to Figure 3; - Figures 6 and 7 show still two embodiments of the invention;
- Figure 8 shows a sealing washer for a combustion engine, the invention being applied to this washer, and - Figure 9 is a perspective view of the washer according to Figure 8.
FIG. 1 shows a wafer 1 made of a metal having the same or substantially the same coefficient of expansion as the wire applied to this wafer. This plate 1 carries a thin layer 2 of an insulating material, such as enamel or glass. A thread 3, single or multiple and possibly in -zigzag, is applied to layer 2.
The board and wire 3 are connected at 4 and 5 to the poles of the voltage source. If at the end 6 of the wire a small part of the layer of insulating material is removed, so as to establish a sliding path or path through the thickness of the insulating layer, the spark will begin to flow. this place to burst.
The wire 3 and the insulating layer 2 gradually burn off until all of the wire is consumed, after which the device must be replaced.
As shown in figure 2, one of the electrodes can also be constituted by a metal pin 7 coated with a thin insulating layer 2 around which is wound and fixed the wire 3. In this case, the spark
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
burst at point 11.
Figures 3, 4 and 5 show an embodiment, in which one of the electrodes consists of a metal plate 1, which is also coated with a thin insulating layer 2, on which the spiral wire 3 is fixed. forming the other electrode.
In Figure 4 the wire 3 will burn from the outside to the inside, while in Figure 5 the reverse occurs.
The blades of the element are designated in Fig. 4 by the notations 4 and 5, while the place from which the spark leaves is denoted by the notation 11. In Fig. 5, the electrodes are designated by the notations 1 and 5, element 5 being fixed to element 4.
The ignition device can also, as shown in Figures 6 and 7, consist of two small insulating tubes 15 and 16 each containing a wire 14, 13, these tubes being assembled, as shown in Figure 6, so that the wires 13 and 14 function as electrodes and are gradually consumed with the insulating material provided between them. Instead of two tubes, it is also possible to use only one tube 15 (FIG. 7), in which are embedded two wires insulated with respect to one another.
In Figure 8, the reference numeral 9 denotes a normal packing washer having an opening 10. The wall of the opening 10 is covered with an insulating layer 2 to which is attached a wire 3 in a form or a shape. other; the spark bursts in 11.
It can be seen from FIG. 9 that the wire 3 can extend along the wall of the opening 10 so that the sparks can only burst in a determined part of the combustion space. The wire electrode 3 is connected to the voltage source at 12.
