Ozoniseur tubulaire.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
individuel.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
Le montage est effectué d'une manière analogue à c elle décrite par rapport à l'ozoniseur représenté sur la figure 1. Après avoir fixé un capuchon obturateur 28,comme décrit,sur une des extrémi- tés de l'électrode intérieure 1', on met en place le tube de verre ) autour du tube métallique, après quoi on monte l'autre capuchon obturateur sur l'extrémité opposée.On pousse les capuchons obturateurs l'un vers l'autre de sorte que leurs joints annulaires 30 s'appuient d'une manière suffisante pour assurer une bonne étan- chéité;
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>

Tubular ozonator.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
. The present invention relates to a tubular ozonator comprising an annular-section discharge vessel disposed between a cylindrical inner electrode and an outer electrode and at least one dielectric tube disposed concentrically between the electrodes.
The considerable industry needs for ozone or ozonized air have led to the development of large ozonates. High efficiency transducers in many cases including water-cooled electrodes and dielectric-subdivided discharge vessels. In order for an ozonator to function satisfactorily, its discharge enclosure should have as uniform a depth as possible over the entire extent of the discharge surface, this depth generally being only of the order of. a few millimeters.
This result is obtained in a simple way in the case of tubular ozonizers in which calibrated tubes - generally dielectric tubes made of glass and tubular metallic or glass electrodes coated with metallic layers - are arranged concentrically, electrodes cylindrical or tubular having, moreover, the advantage of reducing to a minimum the length of the sharp edges which promote the formation of sparks. However, the concentric arrangement and the mounting of the various tubes as well as the realization of a tight sealing of the discharge enclosure with respect to the external atmosphere and / or to the cooling enclosure proves to be difficult,
especially in the case of relative ozonizers; Large ones have, for example, an outer diameter of at least 5 cm and a length of up to 100 cm. Conventional tube ozonizers in this class have a complicated construction and have a large number of parts, the assembly of which requires time for assembly; at least some of these parts are furthermore of a configuration which does not lend itself well to mass production and which requires additional machining
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
individual.
These drawbacks are particularly serious in large companies which use batteries made up of a plurality of tubular ozonators, since these companies must take into account not only a high purchase price but also the need to maintain a stock. large number of spare parts and to allow considerable repair times in the event of damage.
The object of the invention is to create a tubular oonizer consisting of simple parts that are easy to manufacture in series, and the assembly of which requires only a minimum of time and simple operations.
The tubular ozonator according to the present invention is characterized in that the outer electrode and the dielectric tube are held in sealing caps by means of clamping devices each comprising a clamping sealing piston, while the inner electrode consisting of a metal tube is held coaxially by the clamping shutter pistons, the shutter caps being held by the inner tubular electrode by the radial pressure of the clamping shutter pistons, generated by the clamping device.
In a preferred embodiment, each of the closure caps has a core extending from the bottom of the cap to the edge of the inner electrode, and the clamping shutter piston is disposed on an axially movable pin in the hub, le'piston being placed between the end of the hub and the end of said axle. The axis carrying the clamping shutter piston can be moved by means of a nut which bears on the bottom of the cap. Preferably, the axis is constituted by a hollow axis forming a pipe for the supply and evacuation of a cooling fluid towards the interior of the electrode.

interior, or from the interior of this electrode.
Each closure cap may include a centrago surface and an annular seal for centering and sealing the outer electrode. To allow centering of the dielectric tube, each closure cap may be provided with centering ribs extending radially with respect to the hub. Preferably the centering ribs have ridges whose width decreases from the bottom of the cap towards the end hub, while the dielectric tube rests on these ridges by means of a ring of circular section Advantageously, the orifices for bringing the gas to be ozonized towards the discharge chamber or for evacuating the ozonized gas from this enclosure, are provided in the bottom of the shutter caps.
The latter are preferably made of ozone resistant and electrically insulating plastic. In one embodiment, simple of a tabular esoniser, the outer electrode can be constituted by an outer metallic coating applied to a dielectric tube ;, the metallized dielectric tube being longer than the tube constituting the inner electrode and this dielectric tube resting at both ends on sealing annular seals with conical centering surfaces.
In a preferred embodiment of the tubular ozonator having a discharge enclosure divided by a dielectric tube, the outer electrode is formed by a metal tube mounted at its soft ends on cylindrical centering surfaces of the end caps while the tube dielectric rests on centering surfaces provided in the end caps, the dielectric tube being longer than the inner and outer electrodes and protruding at both ends of the decnarge enclosure, between the inner and outer electrodes.

The outer diameter of the shutter piston 18 and the pressure discs 16 corresponds to the inner diameter of the inner tubular electrode 1, so that the end part thereof can easily fit onto the piston. As mentioned above, the dielectric tube 3 is arranged between the inner electrode 1 and the outer electrode 2. During the operation of the ozonator, one connects, in a manner known per se, a current high voltage on the two electrodes in order to cause a silent discharge in the discharge chamber Dielectric tube 3 divides the discharge chamber between the electrodes into two concentric partial encaintes 5 and 6 connected to each other in the sealing caps 4 and 48. Several, and preferably three, radial longitudinal ribs 20 disposed on the hub
8 ensure the centering and the maintenance of the dielectric tube 3.
Near the bridge of the cap concerned, each rib 20 has a shoulder 21 on which the dielectric tube 3 rests, so that its end does not come into contact with the bottom of the cap, which ensures, at t ' inside the cap, the communication between the two partial discharge enclosures 5 and 6.
The ridges 22 of the centering ribs 20 are inclined inwardly from the shoulder 21 towards the front face 11 of the hub and lie on the envelope of a cone whose axis coincides with that of the hub. and, therefore, with that of the entire tubular ozonator. A hollow annular gasket 23 with circular section adapted to the internal diameter of the dielectric tube 3 and made of a plastic material resistant to ozone, for example tetrefluorethylene, is freely placed on the edges 22 of the centering ribs 20. .When installing the dielectric tube 3 on the ribs 20,
the hollow annulsire seal 23 is moved over the ridges 22 of the ribs 20 in the direction of their shoulders 21, and included. This "flexible" fixing of the dielectric tube, generally constituted by glass, fixing provided by the combination of the ribs 20 with inclined edges 21 and the annular elastic seal 23, makes it possible to avoid, when the dielectric tube 3 is being put in place , any damage to the ends of the latter and any generation of permanent tensions in the wall of this tube; moreover, this fixing ensures centering which has proved to be perfectly sufficient in practice.
The bottom of the closure cap carries a connector 25 whose bore 24 communicates, inside the cap, with
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
the annular enclosure 26 called to receive the gas. The cap connector 25 placed at one end of the tubular ozonator is called upon to receive the pipe for supplying the gas to be ozonized, while the cap connector placed on the opposite end of the ozonator receives the ozonized gas outlet pipe.
When mounting the ozonator shown in Figures 1 and 2, one end of the inner electrode 1 is first slid over the shutter piston 18, the hollow annular seal 23 having been previously fitted, after which it is tighten nut 14 until inner tubular electrode 1 is properly secured. The dielectric tube 3 is then put in place by passing it over the inner electrode 1 and sliding it over the hub 8 and the hollow annular seal 23, until the end of this tube comes s '' press the shoulders 21 of the centering ribs 20.
The outer tubular electrode 2 is then placed around the dielectric tube 3 and fitted into the sealing cap until its end comes to rest on the projections 6.-You can then easily place on the 'opposite end of the set of tubes thus formed the other closure cap 4a whose nut 14a must then be tightened. The assembly of the tubular ozonator is then completed. The two nuts 14 and 14a can be fully tightened, without any particular precaution, since the inner electrode is made of steel and therefore does not fear practically any damage. Disassembly of the ozonator is accomplished by: analogous operations in reverse order.
In the tubular ozonator according to the embodiment of FIG. 3 which shows, in section, one end of the ozonator, the internal electrode. is also constituted by a steel tube 1 '. The dielectric tube may consist of a 3 'glass tube which carries

te a metal layer 27 forming an outer electrode.
The inner electrode 1 is fixed in sealing caps 28 by means of piston 18 'in a manner analogous to that described above and shown in Fig. 1a. The sealing caps 28 have a slightly simplified shape, the hub 8 'having no centering ribs and the body of the cap being substantially shorter, which gives these caps a mushroom configuration rather than a cup shape. The edge 29 of the inner surface of the bottom of the cap constitutes a conical centering surface and carries an elastic ring gasket 3 resistant to the action of ozone. When fitting the end of the glass tube 3 'comes lean on the seal 3.
The assembly is carried out in a manner analogous to that described with respect to the ozonator shown in FIG. 1. After having fixed a sealing cap 28, as described, on one of the ends of the internal electrode 1 ', the glass tube is placed) around the metal tube, after which the other sealing cap is mounted on the opposite end. The sealing caps are pushed towards each other so that their annular joints 30 s' support in a sufficient manner to ensure a good seal;
then tighten the nut-147 of the cap put in place last, thus determining a radial pressure on the end of the steel tube and, at the same time, a t endance of both. the caps to move closer together, so that the ends of the glass tube 3 'press firmly into the resilient material of the annular seals 30. The high voltage supply to the electrode interior is ensured by the hollow shaft which carries a contact spring 31 bearing on the interior surface of the interior electrode in order to improve the electrical contact between the hollow shaft and this electro--.
In the examples shown in the drawings.

the inner electrode is cooled. This allows the construction of tubular ozonators of particularly simple construction. However, it is also possible to cool the external electrode without having to resort to considerable additional means. To this end, it suffices to provide for a slight modification of the configuration of the sealing caps and an additional metal tube acting as a cooling jacket. With a view to fixing this casing, each closure cap may include a flange provided with an annular groove designed to receive an annular seal A section in U.
The supply and discharge of the cooling fluid can be ensured by a suitably shaped opening made in the flange, and which communicates with the cooling enclosure defined between the outer electrode and the cooling envelope. .
In the tubular ozonator according to the invention, rods 8 which do not require any additional machining, are kept in coaxial position in sealing caps.
These caps have a configuration allowing their mass production, and are made of plastic material, whereby they can be produced easily and inexpensively. The only element of the ozonator which is susceptible to damage is the dielectric tube generally consisting of a glass tube. These tubes can be damaged during assembly or during operation. However, the fixing of the dielectric tube of the ozonizer according to the invention, on centering ribs and by means of a hollow annular seal, and in particular the fixing of the caps on the tubular metal electrode inside the By means of pressure shut-off pistons reduce the risk of damage to the dielectric tube to a minimum.
When the outer electrode is formed by a metal tube as in the case of the embodiment shown
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
In Fig. 1, practically no damage to the dielectric tube could occur, even with careless handling of the ozonator. If, however, in such an ozonator, for example a crack was formed in the dielectric tube, this would be immediately noticed during the operation of the ozonator, because there would be an electric discharge by bursting and the fuse, or the like, would give way. The dielectric tube must then be replaced.
This replacement requires only a minimum of handling, as described above; therefore the time required for repairs to the ozonator is also reduced to a minimum.
Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the examples described and shown, it is capable of numerous variants accessible to those skilled in the art, depending on the applications envisaged and without departing from the requirements for this. framework of the invention.
