<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The present invention relates to an extension ladder, the uprights of which are formed by profiles, preferably of light metal, the section of the profiles being essentially in the form of a rectangle, the long side of which is arranged at right angles to the surface. scale plan.
The object of the invention is to create a construction in which the moment of inertia of the upright is increased - without the need for thicker walls - by folding the wall of the profile, the folding of the wall being effected in such a way that A section of the ladder can be inserted directly into an underlying ladder section having a somewhat greater width without the aid of guide rollers, protruding arches or other support members
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
mounted on the uprights of the ladder.
According to the invention, this object is achieved above all by the fact that the inner side and the outer side of the upright each have a longitudinal groove and a projection, such that the groove and the projection on one side of the upright Ladder section respectively cooperate with the protrusion and groove on the other side of an upright forming part of the underlying ladder section. the appended drawing illustrates an exemplary embodiment according to the invention.
Fig. 1 shows schematically in cross section an extension ladder.
Fig. 2 is a schematic view of a ladder in the lying position.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section of a post of the extension ladder.
According to figs 1 and 2, the scale is comsituté of three sections, A, B and C, of which the deraière borehole the upper section having the smallest width. Amounts one hundred designated by 1, 2 and 3, bars by 4.
As can be seen in particular in Figure 3, the uprights are made of profiles, preferably light metal, having a substantially rectangular section. The side of the rectangle rand forms the height of the vent in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the bars. The bar 4. is inserted into the central part of the profile and is firmly attached. Above the bar, in Fig. 3, there is provided, on the inside of the upright, a longitudinal groove 5 which, in the example shown, has a rectangular cross section and the base 6 of which is parallel to the interior wall 7 of the upright, the side walls 8 and 9 of the groove being perpendicular to the wall 7.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The base 6 of the groove is arranged inside the contour of the rectangular profile. On the outside of the upright, in the lower part according to FIG. 3, a projection 10 disposed along the upright. This protrusion is intended to penetrate into the groove 5 of the underlying ladder section. as shown in fig 1.
, The groove 5 inside the upright is limited on the outside by a shoulder 11 provided in the profile and. arranged between the wall 9 of the groove 'and the upper wall
12 of the pro-filé, a shoulder which is formed by a portion of the wall 13. Depending on the desired shape of the profile, the aroi 13 can be arranged inside or outside the rectangular outline. Taking into account the dimensions of the shoulder
11, a groove 14 is provided on the outside of the upright, this groove being connected to the protrusion 10 so that the latter and the groove 14 of a ladder section cooperate respectively with the groove 5 and the shoulder 11 d 'an underlying ladder section.
From the above it follows that the groove 14 on the outside of the upright may have a greater depth in the event that the shoulder 11 is of larger dimensions in the direction of the rungs 4 of the ladder.
Both the groove 5 and the protrusion 10 may be covered with pads 15 and 16 respectively, made of a low wear and suitable friction material.
The shoe 15 placed in the groove 5 may however be provided only at the upper end of each ladder section, as shown schematically in FIG. 2, while the shoe 16 of the protrusion 10 may be disposed only at the lower end of each ladder section. In this way, a ladder section slides into the underlying section with as little contact as possible between the surfaces of the protrusion and the groove.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
From a manufacturing point of view, the invention has particular advantages mainly because of the fact that the uprights can be manufactured almost entirely by means of drawing operations, so that the subsequent assembly work will be reduced to a minimum. The guide grooves and projections are formed directly on the profile constituting the upright.
In addition, the cross section chosen for the upright gives the ladder great stability in all directions, while at the same time the weight of the ladder will be remarkably low. This will be the case in particular when the uprights are made of light metal, which also facilitates the profiling work during the drawing operation.
