Description

The present invention relates to a process for obtaining a copal for technical purposes.
The process according to the invention consists in reducing the raw copal to powder, the powder is suspended in water, the whole is heated to a temperature below the boiling point, it is filtered, the residue from the filter is washed, the powder is dried and melted.
It is advantageous to reduce the raw copal to such a fine powder that it passes through a sieve having 100 mesh per 6.45 cm 2. The copal powder is then poured into water, stirring constantly, so that it forms a suspension, and the liquid is heated for 45
<EMI ID = 1.1>
The residue is then filtered and the residue remaining on the filter is advantageously washed twice with hot water.
<EMI ID = 2.1> reliable to avoid that the particles of the powder, agglomerate during drying. The powder must be able to flow completely freely after drying.
As soon as the powder is dry, we proceed to melting. Preferably, the temperature is slowly raised to
260 - 270 [deg.] This maintains this temperature for half an hour. The molten copal can then be poured. It is soluble in oils.
If you still want to purify the copal before melting, you can proceed as follows:
The filter residue is heated during drying until the powder becomes transparent, which is the case with

organic solvents. It can be dissolved for example in n-butyl alcohol, separated from its insoluble impurities by filtering, then distilled to remove
the solvent and then treat the residue obtained as mentioned above.
Formaldehyde can be added to the suspension of
