<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
fage 11.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

In the case of suction calenders with a bowl-shaped return surface, it is known to provide one or more heating elements forming the surface of the bowl and which are applied rigidly or elastically against the surface of the bowl. the suction cylinder provided with an elastic coating. 'In such a suction calender, the laundry is introduced into the calender from one of the sides with the aid of a strap table and is brought by a deposit batten, at the opposite side, to a deposit table ;,
In such tub calanders, the cloth is introduced in a relatively wet state into the calender.
It follows that when
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
as it leaves the grille it must still be thoroughly dried. As a result, the laundry arrives too hot on the depositing table, especially at high ironing speeds, so that it is impossible to fold it by hand.
The invention aims to eliminate these disadvantages and to obtain not only a pre-drying, but also a cooling of the laundry before bringing it to the deposit table.
The invention relates to a pre-drying of the laundry before the introduction of the latter between the surface of the bowl and the cylinder of the calender; the laundry not being introduced between the cup and the calender cylinder on the side where the infeed table is located, but on the opposite side, after having been pre-dried on heated guide surfaces.
Therefore, the invention lies above all in the execution of the suction calender relative to the guide means for the laundry and in the type of a heated guide surface.
Finally, a novelty and progress lies in the fact that the laundry is led under perforated guide means, provided on the free side of the calender, after leaving the bowl, so that said laundry can be cooled by the air sucked in, before being evacuated to the deposit table.
The invention therefore makes it possible to obtain not only advantageous pre-drying of the laundry, but also cooling and subsequent drying.
The invention can be carried out in different ways. One embodiment, given by way of non-limiting example, is shown schematically in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a cross section of the calender cylinder with the guiding means for the laundry.
Fig. 2 shows another embodiment of the introduction of the laundry between the cylinder of the calender and the bowl,
The perforated calender cylinder 10, covered in a known manner with a fabric covering, is placed in the bowl 12 forming the ironing surface and is heated by heating elements.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
fage 11. The bowl may optionally be formed by a fairly large number of heating elements, so it can be subdivided. The outer face of the bowl carries a guide surface 13, for example of semi-circular shape, made of a material which conducts heat and heated by the heating elements 11 of the bowl.
The laundry, introduced on the introduction table 14, is brought by suitable endless guide means, for example straps 15, gauzes, nets or the like, on the outer face of the guide surface 13. According to l According to the invention, the guide means 15, at the same time forming the usual strap table, are guided around the semi-circular guide surface 13 on rollers 16 and return again to the introduction table on the rollers 17 , 18. The laundry is therefore not introduced between the calender cylinder and the pan on the side where the infeed table is located, but on the opposite side, and this, because the guide surface 13 is folded about 180 in 13a.
The laundry is therefore pre-dried between the guide surface 13 and the guide means 15 and is then only reversed 1800 in the direction of arrow A and introduced between the cup and the calender cylinder. The advancement of the laundry can be promoted by conveyor belts 19, arranged between the calender cylinder and the bowl, and which at the same time ensure the transport to a drip plate @ 20, in the direction of the arrow B and above the cylinder. The laundry then arrives on the deposit table 21.
After the laundry leaves the bowl on the side facing the introduction table, it is brought, on the cylinder, under guides 22, for example perforated guide t8les. The air is sucked in by the suction cylinder through the perforations of these guide means 22 and, therefore, the laundry is cooled as it passes through this point.
In order to be able to guarantee the introduction of the laundry ,, Il, inversion point 13a of the guide surface 13, compressed air is brought here, for example by means of the tube 23, and this, in the direction of the arrow C so that when it is inverted the laundry is applied with a certain pressure against the suction cylinder and is dragged by the latter.
To ensure that the laundry is reversed at the point
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
inversion 13a, the guide means, namely the straps 15, or the gauzes or conveying nets are driven as close as possible to the cylinder 10 on a special roller 24; in this case, special deflection means are provided, for example noses 25, inversion plates or the like, arranged above the guide surface 13a folded back by 1800; these means guaranteeing with certainty the introduction of the pre-dried laundry between the cylinder and the bowl.
