It is known that in order to store hydrophobic liquids with a density of less than 1, it is possible to use a tank built in soil saturated with water and communicating with the water tables by a bottom filter or a pipe, so that the weight of the liquid to be stored either supported by groundwater entered to a suitable extent into the tank, a communication pipe between the surface water and the water in the tank serving to facilitate the balance of pressures, or achieving this Balance if the ground is impermeable.
In order to be able also to store liquids presenting a risk of fire or explosion, or other sensitive fluids, the tank, see new be provided with an inner jacket or casing, consisting of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
as a watertight horizontal partition allows it to float and under which the liquid to be stored is located.
The present invention aims to improve the inner jacket or casing of the reservoir, and for this purpose, to protect the liquid to be stored as much as possible, this jacket or casing is established so that the liquid to be stored is maintained by special means below the free level of the water in the reservoir, of the ground water level, or of the surface water level or equivalent. Such a particular means may consist of ballast (preferably water) placed on the horizontal watertight bulkhead.
This particular means can also be constituted by a sufficiently heavy cover, possibly anchored, to which the upward thrusts generated by the filling of the liquid to be stored can, if they exceed the self-weight of the box, be transmitted by special supports, possibly mobile.
The liquid presenting a risk of fire and explosion, stored below the horizontal watertight bulkhead and the jacket or casing which surrounds it, are then, whatever the degree of filling, isolated from all parts of the wall. air by a sufficiently large cushion of water and completely protected from the outside against heat, fire and flames, such as oil fires, etc. ,
Finally, to further increase safety, the tank can be filled and emptied from below, by means of a supply line, which makes it possible to eliminate the filling and emptying lines passing through the wall. - its horizontal watertightness and constituting dangerous places.
Other details and characteristics of the invention will be described below, with reference to the accompanying drawings showing some embodiments of the invention.
Fix. 1 is a median longitudinal course of a tank according to the invention;

Fig. 2 is an identical layer of a similar tank, in which the position of the floating box remains unchanged whatever the degree of filling of the liquid to be stored, thanks to the modification of the ballast above the horizontal watertight partition;
Fig. 3 is a median longitudinal section of a constant ballast tank above the horizontal watertight bulkhead, while the position of the floating box changes according to the degree of filling;
Fig. 4 is a median longitudinal section of another embodiment of the reservoir;
Figs. 5 and 6 are partial sections of reservoirs similar to that of FIG. 4.
The underground reservoir 1 shown in FIG. 1 and intended for storing hydrophobic liquids with a density of less than 1 is carried out in the same manner as the installations for the intake of a water table. The construction in itself does not constitute the object of the invention and is therefore not described.
The water 2 in the tank communicates with the water from the water table 4 by a bottom filter 3, so that its level is always at the height of that of the water table. To facilitate the pressure balance or to achieve this balance when the soil is impermeable, a pipe 5 is provided between the surface water 6 (river, pond, lake, etc.) and the water in the reservoir 1.
In the tank is mounted so as to float on the water, a jacket or box consisting of a sealed ferrule
7, a horizontal watertight partition 8 and a side wall 9; the upper edge of the hoirzontale partition 8 is at. a certain distance (depth of immersion) below the water level in the tank, this distance being determined by the nronre node of the floating chamber.

the required depth of the tank.
Fig. 2 shows an embodiment with changeable ballast 14, in which the jacket or box always floats at the same height, even when the amount of the liquid to be stored varies. The more the quantity of liquid to be stored increases, the more that of the ballast is increased and vice versa, so that the horizontal watertight partition 8 always remains at the same depth of immersion below the free water level 2 of the tank. As the horizontal partition of the floating box does not submerge any deeper, this embodiment makes it possible to produce reservoirs of a minimum depth.
Fig. 3 shows a ton of realization with invariable ballast. Depending on whether it contains more or less liquid µ storing the sealed box descends or rises to a corresponding extent, and when it is completely filled, it occupies the extreme upper position shown in FIG. 2. The bottom of the tank must be at a depth such that in the position of greatest immersion of the tight shell, the lower edge of the latter does not touch the fone of the tank. The value of the immersion depth corresponds to the pressure difference under the horizontal watertight bulkhead. It is of course possible, depending on the circumstances, to combine the two installations described above.

assembly, by means of floats 17 and stabilizing weights 18, and before being repolished with the fluid to be stored, it is submerged under water until it rests on the lower supports 19 provided on the bottom 20 of the tank, these supports leaving a sufficient passage between the lower bora 13 of the shell 7 'of the box and the bottom 20 so that the water balance can be established.
The support and protection cover 16, of suitable thickness and weight, which comes above the tank 1 and can optionally bear on its side walls and be connected to it, absorbs the upward thrusts. which are transmitted to it by the upper supports 21, possibly mobile, these thrusts being those generated under the partition or horizontal wall 8 during the filling of the box with the liquid to be stored 10, so that despite these thrusts the box cannot move vertically and the water cushion.

The maximum immersion depth 12 must be located at a certain safety height above the lower edge 13 of the jacket or box of the tank.
The embodiment according to figs. 4 to 6 offers the possibility of removing the inner jacket or casing 7,8 from the reservoir 1, making the upper wall interior of the urotection cover. 16 watertight and watertight, and by providing a short distance from the lateral nostrils of the tank, separating nostrils connected to one another and connecting in a leaktight manner to the cover 16, these separating nostrils extending up to 'at a short distance from the bottom of the tank which is then also sealed. liquid to be stored, while the sealing disc, resting * on the lower supports or on the perforated support base, must be able to absorb? the overpressure of the fluid to be stored.
This does not occur of course 'because evaporation of the liquid, the latter being subjected to the constant pressure of the water surrounding the coating. To increase safety in the case of easily volatile liquids, or for work reasons, it may not be advantageous to store the liquid under a pressure greater than that generated by the height of the water in the water table - nhratiaue surrounding the jacket or inner tank of the tank. For this purpose, the shirt can be closed at the bottom with a tight bottom.
The water can then be brought inside! from the jacket by a system of pipes connected to another tank Any water, the level of which is different from that of the water surrounding the jacket or that of the groundwater, or connected to a pressurized water system , the higher pressure being obtained by a corresponding height of the water column, or by pumped pressurized water. In this case, the walls of the tank jacket must be dimensioned, taking into account the internal overpressure relative to the external water pressure in the tank. The sealing disc then also prevents the mixing of water and linuide to be stored, in the boundary layers.
Fig. 5 shows one embodiment of a bottom open, horizontally sealing reservoir liner 24 floating between the top layer of carrier water and the bottom layer of storage fluid 10, this discussion still remaining. in sealed contact with the vertical side walls 7 of the tank jacket when @onte could descend as a result of variations in the filling of liquid to be stored.
