<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
REVENDICATIONS.

It is common, in metal carpentry of all kinds, to have to attach utility and / or decorative parts such as window strips, moldings, joint covers and others to fixed elements.
It has been proposed to fix these add-on parts by screwing directly onto the underlying elements, which has many drawbacks both from a technical point of view and from an economic and aesthetic point of view. Indeed, the fixing of these screws to the Vise requires the prior drilling and tapping of numerous holes, which introduces the subjection of correct tracing and multiple and precise operations significantly complicating the performance of the job.
As a result, the cost of metal joinery is significantly increased. On the other hand, the screw heads are visible, which is often a deplorable effect.
Attempts have been made to reduce these drawbacks appreciably by fixing said added parts by elastic means. A first proposed means consists in fixing beforehand by screwing on the underlying parts a certain number of small elastic clamps, to profile the parts. reported so that they have aqéquate prominent surfaces and juxtapose said inserts on said clamps so as to secure them to said underlying parts by hooking. The method of fixing certainly has the advantage of hiding the screw heads fixing the elastic pliers, but it nevertheless leaves the major technical and economic drawbacks of the need to mark out a large number of holes correctly, to execute them and to thread them.
elastic clamps which are relatively small in size are weakened by the perforation necessary for the passage of the fastener. Moreover, the correct alignment of all elastic clamps makes the work of execution even more delicate.
Finally, it has been suggested, in certain cases, to cause the attached elements to catch on because of their own transverse elasticity.
In this case, said inserts have extremely reduced thicknesses and a special profile cooperating with an adequate shape of the corresponding part of the underlying parts. This means entails the obligation to use inserts of small thickness, c 'that is to say delicate and likely, after a certain time of use, to present a detrimental play not only for the good preservation of the metal joinery but also for its stability, its thin elastic elements being liable to fall apart. move in their fastening elements, in particular as a result of the continual stresses of the construction, in particular under the effect of heavy transport.
The invention relates to a new fastening method for all generally any attached parts of practically all shapes and sizes, this method being such that the drawbacks are systematically avoided without the slightest prejudice to the strength, stability and good preservation of the material. metal carpentry.
This process consists substantially in interposing, between the attached part and the underlying element, at least one elastic element secured both to said attached part and to said subjacent element exclusively by hooking. These elastic elements can be previously attached either to the attached clamp or to the sub-ajcent element.
This prior attachment will be done, preferably, by the cooperation of a longitudinal rib of suitable section provided either in the insert or in the underlying element and the hollow profile of the corresponding part of the elastic elements. The free ends of the elastic parts may
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
cause catching by the fact of their engagement on the outside or inside the ribs provided for this purpose.
Another characteristic of the invention consists in carrying out the double attachment to the right or approximately to the right of the longitudinal median plane of the juxtaposed elements so as to substantially increase the stability of the attached parts.
From this very particular arrangement, another appreciable advantage results from the fact that, generally, the added parts will be stressed by the said elastic elements in places spaced, generally at the maximum, from the contact surfaces between the juxtaposed parts, this which is particularly favorable for the production of assemblies of great stability and good resistance against any stress, even fortuitous, such as those arising from common tremors in buildings.
The invention also relates to all the generally arbitrary devices allowing the application of this general method. These devices are essentially variable in terms of the very different shapes and relative arrangements which it is possible to give to the fastening elements or parts, whether male or female.
All these characteristics will emerge more clearly and the more detailed description given below with reference to the appended drawings, in which: FIGS. 1 and 2 show schematically two summary representations of the process, the main object of the invention; FIGS. 3 to 6 represent, in cross section, four typical applications of the process of the invention.
Regardless of the shape, dimensions and number of fastening elements, said method, as shown diagrammatically in FIGS. 1 and 2, therefore essentially consists in interposing, between any attached part 1 and an underlying element 2, at least an elastic element 3 hooked simultaneously to said insert 1 and to said sub-ajcent element 2.
In the example shown schematically in FIG. 1, the elastic grippers 3 are initially made integral with the underlying part 2 by the fact that the lower branch 4 of the gripper is, in its middle, profiled so as to present a re-entrant part 2. in a round tail hooking up the corresponding part of the longitudinal rib 6 of the underlying part ¯2 of appropriate section. It goes without saying that this prior hooking could not involve the juxtaposition of profiled parts of any other adequate way.
The elastic gripper 3 thus has two lateral branches constantly tending to approach each other and whose free ends 7-8 are, for example, curved outwardly so as to promote the initiation of the engagement by the head of the device. the longitudinal rib from the workshop with the attached part 1.
In Figure 2, we have shown schematically an inverse relative arrangement but contributing exactly to the application of the same process. Indeed, the elastic grippers 3 are initially s @ blidarized by the attachment to the attached part 1. In this diagram, we has shown the longitudinal rib with trapezoidal section 6, as coming from the workshop with the insert 1 and the longitudinal rib 9 with hooking head as coming from the workshop with the underlying element 2. The ribs 6 and and the elastic hooking clamps 3 can have absolutely any shapes as long as, by their cooperation, they allow double hooking,
that is to say, the hooking simultaneously by the same clamps 3, of a pait: of the insert 1 and,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
on the other hand, the underlying element 2.
Figure 3 shows schematically in cross section 10application of the method of the invention to the attachment of a glazing strip 10 whose general section is approximately U-shaped. In this application, the corresponding part of the frame 11 has a longitudinal rib 12 in the form of swirl tail and the bottom of the rod 10 has a longitudinal rib 13 bordered by a hooking bead. The elastic grippers 3 are, for example, of the type shown in Figure 1. These grippers 3 are previously hung from place in place on the frame and it is then sufficient to apply the strip 10 with a pressure force such that the bead of the rib 13 temporarily moves the branches of the elastic grippers 3 apart,
these hooks onto the shoulders delimiting the rear part of the bead 13. The fixing is practically instantaneous, the rod 10 being urged at points as far as possible from the underlying frame 11 and the double hooking, respectively of said frame 11 and of said rod 10 by the elastic clamps 3 being made in the median plane AB of said rod or approximately in this plane @
In the embodiment of FIG. 4, the strip 10 attached to the frame 11 has two ribs 13-13 'determining, between them,
a free space oThis arrangement makes it possible to make use of either elastic clamps 3 - as shown in solid lines = their side branches being introduced between the two ribs 13-13 'and therefore acting as a male part in the hollow 14; or else it is possible to use elastic grippers, the side branches of which are profiled towards their free end, as shown in dotted lines, so as to come to urge the ribs 13-13 'from the outside.
Figure 5 shows schematically the attachment of attached parts in the form of a molding forming, for example, a joint cover. For this purpose, it suffices to provide the underlying elements 15-15 'with a first joint cover 16 having a longitudinal median rib 17 whose cross section is such as to allow attachment, this section being, for example, in the shape of a dovetail.
This joint cover can be secured to said underlying parts 15-15 'by any known means, since it will be completely hidden from view. On said joint cover are hung elastic clamps 18 and to these clamps is hung the molding 19. This one. for this purpose, internally has a longitudinal rib 20 bordered by a hooking bead 21.
It is obvious that this molding 19 can be of any shape and of all dimensions and be made on any underlying part generally arbitrary.
In some cases, an intermediate arrangement can be provided with a view to avoiding an exaggerated length, either at the hooking ribs or at the elastic springs, this in particular when the attached parts have a relatively considerable height or depth.
Such an execution is schematically shown in FIG. 6 in which an insert of very great depth 22 must be fixed to an underlying element 23. The depth H is too great to apply the method directly in the forms described above.
In such cases, it will often be preferable to make the insert 22 so as to provide its internal faces with two opposite grooves 24-25 in which are, from place to place, arranged spacers 26 provided with a central rib. 27 with attachment head, the underlying element 23 has a longitudinal median rib 28 also conditioned to promote attachment,
this groove being
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
either reported or come from the workshop with said element. It is then sufficient to operate the double attachment by elastic grippers 29 in accordance with the general method of the invention.
It is thus possible, in any suitable manner, to condition the parts to be added in order to apply said method either directly or indirectly. It goes without saying that, by the method of the invention, it is possible to relate, respectively fix, to elements under -jacents any, added parts made either of metal or of molding, plastic or other material.
The elastic grippers can be profiled in absolutely any way as long as they can cooperate both with the insert and with the underlying element to ensure their mutual connection by a double hooking.
It goes without saying that, in certain cases, the method described could be used with the aid of elastic clamps initially secured to the underlying element, even by screwing, since this means would nevertheless make it possible to take advantage of the attachment of the part. attached by at least one longitudinal median rib and in such a way that its stress is brought to a relatively large distance from the bearing surface between the attached part and the underlying element.
The invention extends to any generally any device capable of applying said general method. Also, the invention extends to any profile of inserts, underlying elements and springs specially conditioned with a view to apply - partially or totally - the process of the invention.
Finally, the invention extends to all generally unspecified applications such as bodywork, furniture, furnishing fittings, decorative paneling, etc.etc.
