<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The present invention relates to household appliances for chopping, grinding or sifting food, comprising a container or calender, provided with a perforated bottom in elastic contact with which moves the lower edge of a compression member of the rotary driven helical type. ment by the axis of a journaling crank in a span formed in the center of the perforated base and, most effectively, in a diametrical crosspiece carried by the calender.
Household appliances in this category generally comprise, on either side of the diametral plane containing the handle, two symmetrical support hooks carried by the outer wall of the grille in its part opposite to the handle and intended to rest, at the same time as the latter, on the edge of the container intended to receive the treated materials so as to limit the penetration of the calender into said container and to support the apparatus.
This arrangement is shown schematically in FIG. 1 of the appended drawings in which A represents the household appliance the calendar of which comprises a handle and, on the opposite side, two hooks C1, C2; M represents the button of the crank causing the rotary drive of the compression member C. The apparatus is placed on a receptacle R comprising a tail P. In this position, the simple pressure exerted in M by the hand of the The user, in order to drive the compression member in rotation, tends to make the apparatus pivot around the axis x1, x2 passing through the points of application of C1 and of p on the edge of the container, the hook C2 tending to be raised.
As soon as the crank, in the direction of the arrow, passes beyond the handle p, the device tends to tilt in the opposite direction around an axis strictly symmetrical to the previous one and it is the hook C1 which tends to be lifted .
It follows that, to oppose the reversal sometimes from one direction, sometimes from the other, of the device, the user's wrist which holds the tail of this device must produce a relatively large force and which, in any case, quickly causes fatigue. In addition, often the user, in order to resist the above-mentioned overturning movement, grasps both the tail of the device and that of the receptacle in the left hand, but this requires an additional effort for female hands. usually small.
It should, on the other hand, be noted that the stability of the apparatus is all the greater the more its shell is sunk deeper into the receptacle, and it is advantageous to release the capacity of the latter to the maximum. . Means have been proposed to obtain this result, in particular by arranging in the vicinity of the bottom of the apparatus, on the outer periphery, of the calender, folding support brackets, which has the result of placing the device practically outside the container.
The present invention relates to an anchoring device obviating the aforementioned drawbacks and allowing the use of household appliances for chopping, grinding or sifting, arranged so as to be placed above the receptacles intended to receive the processed foods, without the user having to make an effort to resist the overturning moment resulting from the design of the device.
The device, according to the invention, consists of the combination with the device and carried by the outer wall of the coaland, on the one hand, in the diametral plane containing the handle and opposite to the latter, of a elastic anchoring member intended to come into contact with the wall of the receptacle on which the apparatus is to rest and arranged so as to constitute one of the support points of the apparatus and to resist, in this position relative position of the device and the container, with the lifting movement corresponding to the tilting of the device, and, on the other hand, of two supports
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
transverse, symmetrical with respect to said diametral plane, arranged, with respect to the diametral plane perpendicular - to the preceding one,
on the same side as the handle and fitted with pads of elastic material making it possible to immobilize the device by pressure in the active position of the anchoring member.
It will be understood that a simple pressure, exerted parallel to the axis, of the hand which holds the handle, without fatigue for the wrist, has the result of totally immobilizing the apparatus and of facilitating the operation of the crank. It is no longer necessary for the user to simultaneously grasp the tail of: the device and that of the receptacle which can thus occupy any position - and whose very presence ceases to be useful for obtaining of the goal sought.
The invention also comprises other characteristics which emerge both from the description which follows and from the appended drawing in which: FIG. 1 is a schematic plan view showing the position of a household appliance placed on a container by its handle and the usual hooks, FIG. 2 is a similar schematic view showing the principle of. the application to a household appliance of an anchoring device according to the invention, FIGS. 3 and 3a are schematic elevational views showing the principle of the application to a household appliance of this anchoring device placed respectively in the vicinity of the base and in the middle part of the calender in FIGS.
4 and 5 are schematic elevational views showing the positioning and anchoring on a pan of a first embodiment of the anchoring member shown on a larger scale in FIG. 6, and, in engagement with the rolled edge of a container in FIG. 6a,
The rod 7 shows in section a second variant of the anchoring member, FIG. 8 similarly shows another variant of the anchoring member, a detail of which is shown in FIG. 9, FIGS. 10 and 12 respectively represent in elevation seen in plan and in section through XII-XII of FIG. 10 a tilting support intended to cooperate with one of the preceding anchoring members, FIG. 10a is a variant of support, FIGS. 13 to 15 respectively show in elevation seen in plan and seen from the end a variant of the anchoring member, FIGS.
16 and 17 show respectively in elevation and seen in plan an anchoring device with double anchoring member combined with supports provided with smooth runners, the pins 18 and 19 are partial views in elevation and in plan showing on a larger scale this anchoring device, FIGS. 20 and 21 are views similar to Figs. 16 and 17 of an anchoring device with a simple anchoring member combined with supports provided with notched shoes, and FIGS. 22 and 23 are partial views in elevation and in plan showing on a larger scale this anchoring device,
Figs. 2, 3 and 3a schematically represent the principle of the anchoring device according to the invention ;.
The grille featured, on the one hand,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
on either side of the diametral plane containing the handle n of the device, two transverse supports b1, b2 located on the same side as said handle with respect to the diametral plane perpendicular to the previous one, and, on the other hand, in the diametral plane containing the handle and opposite the latter, an anchoring member a comprising a support a1 intended to rest on the edge of the container and a kind of lock! 2 opposing the tilting of the device on the side where it is found placed the button of the crank used to rotate the compression member.
The points of contact with the edge of the container of the support a1 of the anchoring member and of the supports b1, and b2 are respectively referenced
1, 2 and 3 in figs. 2, 3 and 3a, FIG. 3a not differentiating from FIG.
3 only by the fact that the supports are placed substantially in the middle part of the calender instead of being placed near the bottom. As for the point of contact of the lock a2 shown in a very schematic form, it is indicated at 4 on the internal face * -, the wall of the container intended to receive the treated material.
This schematic representation shows, on the one hand, that the device rests on the receptacle at three points which provide it with perfect stability, and, on the other hand, that, when the lock a2 is applied with a certain pressure against the internal wall of the container, the pressure exerted by the hand which holds the handle, can reach significant values without a tilting of the container towards this same handle being to be feared, In fact, the latch! 2 is in abutment against the internal wall of the receptacle and this tilting would force point 4 to travel the path shown in dotted lines in FIG. 3, which is impossible.
Any increase @, the pressure exerted on the handle therefore has the consequence of increasing the safety of the anchoring, especially as no risk of the supports sliding on the edge of the container can occur as a result of this present. elastic pads with which they are provided and the importance of the pressure exerted.
It follows therefore that the tendency to tilt which results from the actual operation of the apparatus will be of no consequence since the lifting to which it gives rise cannot occur. ], The user will be dispensed from providing this wrist strain, which is essential with previous devices to resist the overturning movement, and it will suffice for him to put pressure on the handle.
In figs. 4 and 5, the lock, is formed, as is shown on a larger scale in FIG. 6, by a sort of metal hook 5 provided internally with a rubber lining 6 having two protrusions d and e arranged so that the plane Y1, Y2 which joins them is oblique with respect to the axis of the apparatus which intersects it above the hook.
To introduce this hook on the edge of a container R, it is necessary to incline it as shown in fig. 4 then, by pressing following arrow f (fig. 5) tilt it until the two other supports 2 and 3 rest on the edge of the container with suitable pressure.
In fig. 6a which shows the latch engaged with a rolled edge of the container, are indicated the fulcrum 1 of the latch on this edge and at 4, where the projection is crushed by the pressure it undergoes due to the obliquity. of plane Y1. Y2, the point of contact with the internal wall of the container R.
In fig 7, the same result is obtained by three small pieces of rubber 7, 8, 9 provided with an annular groove 7a, 8a, and 9a and in
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
which is engaged by elastic deformation the edge of a circular cutout formed in a support 10 secured to the lower part of the apparatus A.
In fig. 8, the anchoring is achieved by crushing two sleeves 12, 13 integral with a support 11 provided with teeth 11a (FIG. 9) and fixed to the outer wall of the shell of the appliance.
Figs. 10 and 12 represent one of the supports which can be collapsed under the device and which are intended to cooperate with the lock forming the subject of the invention. This support is constituted by a stirrup 14, the ends 14a of which are turned squarely and pivot in openings made in a part 15 in the form of a clevis. A rubber pad 16 is inserted between the branches of the caliper and urges the latter in contact with the part 15, which ensures the stability of the caliper in its two positions.
In fig. 10a, the pad has equidistant slots 17 intended to receive the edge of the container and leading to rounded portions of larger diameter making it possible to receive and hold the rolled edges. Chamfers 18 facilitate installation.
Figs. 13 to 15 show another embodiment of a lock according to the invention. The rubber pad 20 comprises, in the vicinity of the wall of the apparatus, a part 20a of greater thickness in which is formed a groove 21 intended to receive the edge of the container and quite similar to the upper part of the liner. 6 (Fig. 6). The edge of this groove is intended to cooperate with two small rubber parts 22, 22a, carried by extensions 23 of the branches of the yoke 15. As in the case of FIG. 6, the common tangent plane Y1, Y2 is oblique with respect to the axis of the apparatus.
In the variant shown in FIGS. 18 and 19, the pad 24 comprises a simple rectangular notch 25 intended to receive the edge of the receptacle, the extension of the face of the notch perpendicular to the brackets intersects, in the rest position, the two small rubber parts 22, 22a so that there is anchoring in the position of use.
In fig. 22 and 23, the pad 16 is notched and also comprises a rectangular notch 25 intended to cooperate with a small single part 22 of rubber carried by a median extension 26 of the part 15 in the form of a yoke. The branches of the caliper are then sufficiently separated to allow the lock to be eclipsed along the wall.
Figs 16 and 17 show respectively in elevation and in plan an apparatus provided with smooth supports and with a double lock as shown in FIGS. 18 and 19. This arrangement allows the use of an eccentric and locked container R and a large container R1 centered but not locked.
Figs. 20 and 21 similarly show an apparatus provided with notched supports and a simple lock as shown in FIGS. 22 and 23 either locked on an eccentric container R, or locked by the sole means of its notches 18 on a centered container R1.
It is understood that the supports and the lock securing the anchoring of the device in the operating position on the container could be carried by a support independent of the device and capable of being removably attached to the latter.
