On sait que le désir de l'agriculture est de ramasser les plan- tes sarclées telles que les pommes de terre et les betteraves, directement après l'arrachage. C'est pourquoi cette exigence peut être facilement sa- tisfaite avec les récolteuses de racines et tubercules a convoyeurs a chaî- nes, car c'est une propriété de ces machines, de soulever les produits de récolte par la chaîne trieuse, et de permettre par des moyens relativement simples, l'adjonction a cette chaîne de dispositifssupplémentaires conduisant aux caissons collecteurs des produits déja largement nettoyés , grâce a d'autres entraînements a chaînes ou a des entraînements a vis d' Archimède placés derrière la chaîne trieuse dans le sens de la marche;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
11 est actionné par une commande manoeuvrable a partir du siège du conduc- teur (cf. fig. 5).Cette commande est constituée par une tige 17 pourvue d' une manivelle (ou équivalent) a proximité du siège du conducteur ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
En conservant la construction d'ensemble décrite de la récolteuse a roue trieuse avec le dispositif convoyeur élevé annexé a sa sortie vers l'avant, on peut assurer, au moyen du convoyeur a chaîne supplémentaire 15, non seulement le transport continu sur le pont de chargement du tracteur, qui se trouve devant la récolteuse, mais également grâce a un déplacement convenable et un soutien correspondant, le déchargement latéral du prodûit de récolte convoyé, grâce a quoi le point idéal pour l'agencement du caisson collecteur de la Fig. 1 et pour le déplacement de l'élévateur auxiliaire 15 dans deux directions différentes (Figs;

It is known that the desire of agriculture is to collect root crops, such as potatoes and beets, directly after uprooting. Therefore, this requirement can be easily met with chain conveyor root and tuber harvesters, as it is a property of these machines, to lift the crop products by the sorting chain, and to allow by relatively simple means, the addition to this chain of additional devices leading to the collecting boxes for products already largely cleaned, thanks to other chain drives or to Archimedes screw drives placed behind the sorting chain in the direction of walking;
However, all these combined devices have this in common, that they lead to very extensive mechanical assemblies, unwieldy and requiring a relatively considerable tensile force.
It is especially difficult to solve the problem with sorting wheel harvesters, because the coupling of these machines has this peculiarity that it lifts the crop product only very little above the ground; it is therefore difficult to sufficiently support the peripheral race of the sorting star (or of the sorting wheel), where the crop product is brought to be deposited on the ground, in order to collect this product when it leaves this star , and route it to a collector box. Even if this became possible for an oblique position of the star, the coupling in a row which would result from it with the previous devices, and the arrangement of the various mechanical units, which would then necessarily lead to an elongated and difficult to lead handset, would prove to be very unsatisfactory.
It is therefore necessary to solve the problem of collecting the crop product delivered by a sorting wheel harvester at a certain height above the ground, with the aid of a device conveying it not point towards the rear, but if possible forward.
A drive device made according to this principle, and which therefore leads the crop to a box located above the sorting star and, if necessary, in front of it, will considerably improve all wheel harvesters. sorter, whatever the type; it improves in particular the device described in the Belgian patent? 520,772, filed June 17, 1953 on behalf of the plaintiff.
The solution of the present invention consists essentially in placing, behind the sorting star, a screw conveyor, known per se, surrounded on all sides by a casing leaving an opening free for the passage of the crop delivered by the sorter; this conveyor is directed obliquely forwards - (in the direction of travel of the machine) above the sorter and leads the harvested products into a box with an evacuation hatch. The conveyor screw turns on itself in the opposite direction to that of the sorter wheel, so that the products delivered by the latter are removed directly from the start of the turns of the conveyor.
According to an exemplary embodiment, the box may comprise a loading bridge, known per se, mounted on a tractor and preferably tiltable laterally; in this case, the crop material should be removed high enough, above the rear wall of the deck; but there is no point in giving the screw conveyor (which may be called upon to perform other tasks) the length necessary for this work; Now, in order to reach the desired height as well as the necessary length of the conveying path, a conveyor d. chain taking up from below the exit of the screw conveyor and in its extension the inclination of the chain conveyor can be adjusted satisfactorily according to that of the screw conveyor, and its upper end is provided with a Movable independent guide plate forming upward protection.
To support the upper end of the screw conveyor, arranged for this purpose in a frame, flying buttresses are used, bearing on the frame of the tractor, preferably "U" profiles and erected.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
two: sides of the conveyor; their upper transverse portion carries both the frame thereof and the shaft of its propeller. It may be advantageous for these flying buttresses to be extendable and orientable around their support points, so that they can be moved, if necessary, at the same time as the conveyor itself.
The chain conveyor is supported by its flying buttresses, because it rests on a transverse adjustable in height and connecting the two flying buttresses. This support can also be arranged so that the chain conveyor can be moved laterally so that the crop delivered by the screw conveyor can be brought laterally above the chain conveyor, for example on a cart driven by the screw. next to the harvester, in the field.
In an advantageous embodiment, the collector box is preferably provided as an autonomous unit on the harvester itself in front of the sorting star and under the outlet of the chain conveyor which is then carried by the buttresses supporting the screw conveyor. and arranged between them and the conveyor. We can therefore report the escape hatch opening from the top transversely to the direction of travel of the assembly and masking an opening of the box of corresponding size; this hatch can oscillate under the action of a lever operated from the driver's seat, located on the other side of the machine.
The box at least on its lower half, and the escape hatch, preferably include slatted blades, so that if there is still soil adhering to the tubers, it can come loose and fall back on. ground. The box, the upper half of which extends substantially above the entire width of the sorter star, has in its lower half a bottom falling obliquely towards the discharge opening, and the slats of this lower half have as a whole a position corresponding to the inclination of the bottom.
The inclination of the latter forces the tubers gathered in the box to roll towards the discharge opening; the box empties as soon as the hatch is opened; this arrangement also allows a fairly high discharge opening, facilitating unloading, and this despite the shaft, the motor of the sorter rotates under the box, the bottom of which sufficiently dominates this shaft due to its inclination.
The object of the invention will be explained more precisely with the help of a few exemplary embodiments; the drawings show the wheel sorter harvester with the elevated transport device according to the invention, shown, inclined from the rear, it can be seen in particular:
Fig. 1, sending the products to a collector box
Fig. 2, sending the products to the tractor deck, in the loading position.
Fig. 3, when tilting the bridge.
Fig. 4, when using an auxiliary elevator as a transverse conveyor to load a vehicle walking beside the harvester.
Fig. 5 is a detail of the control of the evacuation hatch of the box.
The sorter star harvester corresponds, in its essential characteristics, to that described in the aforementioned Belgian patent At the exit of the sorting wheel, and making an obtuse angle with its plane, there is a support base 1 in which rests the lower end of a screw conveyor shaft 2 directed obliquely towards the front above the sorting wheel; this shaft carries the worst helicals 3 which are formed by windings of slightly spaced wires; these turns 3 are surrounded by a cylindrical casing made of blades
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
4 parallel to the shaft 2, this housing carries, at its lower part, an opening large enough for the passage of crop products from the sorter wheel.
This screw conveyor is carried by a frame consisting of the tubular elements 5 joined together in a generally rectangular shape.
On the front cross member 6 of the harvester, the buttresses 7 are supported which, with the upper strut 8, form a "U" -shaped assembly; on this strut 8 is also fixed the upper end of the frame 5 - as well as the upper bearing of the shaft 2. A stable triangular support is thus statically produced on which the conveyor device can be fixed towards the rear carrying wheel of machine, and hooked on the other hand to the strut 8.
In the open triangle determined by the conveyor 3, the support frame 7 and the sorting wheel harvester, it is possible to install, according to the device of F'ig. 1, a collector box 9 removably fixed to the frame 7, above the sorting wheel, this box is provided with a hatch 10 which opens laterally upwards and whose axis of oscillation
It is actuated by a control that can be operated from the driver's seat (see fig. 5). This control is constituted by a rod 17 provided with a crank (or equivalent) near the driver's seat;
this rod carries an arm 13, the end of which is articulated on a rod 14 connected either directly to the hatch 10 or to its axis 11, so that by rotating the crank according to the arrow in FIG. 5, the arm 13 is rotated in the same way and the rod 14 which determines the opening of the hatch 10 is pushed back. The box 9, the upper part of which forms a normal box, has a bottom inclined to one side and of which the lower half is made of slatted slats
In this harvester, the products delivered by the sorting wheel arrive, in the area immediately adjacent to the latter, to be picked up by the screw conveyor; the latter lifts them up and returns them to the box from which they can be unloaded, by opening the hatch, at any location chosen, for example at the ends of the field.
If the machine is provided with a loading point to which the crop product is brought, there is intervention, as shown in Fig. 2 of an additional chain conveyor 15, removable and intervening by en-. below to take the product at the exit of the screw conveyor 3. This conveyor 15 is carried by a cross member 16 connecting the two buttresses 7 and of adjustable height. The conveyor is placed in an adjustable manner on this cross member with an inclination in relation to that of the screw conveyor and, for this purpose, it is provided with a control bar 19 extending to the proximity of the driver's seat 12.
With such an arrangement, the product (as seen in Fig.
1), once arrived in the zone of action of the conveyor screw 3, is lifted by the latter and falls, on its exit, on the chain conveyor 15, which removes it and advances again so as to bring it to the tractor loading point.
When this bridge is sufficiently filled, and is at the desired unloading location, for example at the end of the field, it is tilted sideways in a manner known per se, whereby the load of products falls to the ground, along the side wall folded down. But the lateral tilting of the bridge can only take place if the chain conveyor 15 is pulled back sufficiently, because otherwise it would be in the tilting zone. The return of this conveyor to the rear is ensured by the aforementioned control 19, which extends to the proximity of the driver's seat, which brings the chain conveyor into the position shown in FIG. 3 where there is sufficient space for carrying out the lateral tilting of the loading bridge.
Fig. 4 shows another possible variant of the loading
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
crop material because the additional chain conveyor 15 is used; in this case, the product must be driven sideways to a vehicle walking alongside the harvester. It must therefore be driven laterally from the plane of the conveyor screw to that of its exit, up to the side wall of the neighboring vehicle. This is what further serves the chain conveyor 15 which, in this case, is moved laterally so as to convey the product falling on it, perpendicular to the running direction in the screw conveyor.
In this case, the chain conveyor, which then takes an almost horizontal position, and receives the product on a passage made in its side wall adjacent to the screw conveyor, is supported by an additional flying buttress 18 connected by a crossmember to the 'one of the buttresses 7, which has the consequence of making the "U" frame a closed unit with the buttress 18 and said cross member.
Maintaining the described overall construction of the wheel sorter harvester with the elevated conveyor device attached to its forward outlet, by means of the additional chain conveyor 15 it is possible to ensure not only the continuous transport on the bridge. loading of the tractor, which is in front of the harvester, but also thanks to a suitable displacement and corresponding support, the lateral unloading of the conveyed crop material, whereby the ideal point for the arrangement of the collector box of Fig. 1 and for the movement of the auxiliary elevator 15 in two different directions (Figs;
2 and 4), is located at the exit of the first elevated conveyor device, the screw conveyor, and thus advantageously, above the middle of the wide support frame, inside the front carrying wheels.
