<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

CONSTANT FRICTION VALVE KNOWN SYSTEM, OR FREE FROM FRICTION VALVE, WITH ADJUSTABLE OR FIXED SEAT AS REQUIRED.
The subject of the invention is a valve which differs from other valves by its different possibilities of different executions according to the same principle and allowing different effects. The first embodiment allows a use similar to all the valves in use to date., Either opening or closing back and forth 1/4 turn and in constant frictional resistance of the 'plug or cinnamon shutter, the calibration of which must be rigorously exact to that of the housing provided for this purpose in the body of the valve and whose walls serve as seats.
This first embodiment has, however, a considerable advantage in this new valve, by an adjustment device claimed as a novel feature which makes it possible to reduce to the maximum the resistance to friction of the seat walls on the walls of the shutter. and this up to the sealing limit, which considerably facilitates the progressive opening or closing. This thus presents the particularity of this first embodiment.
The second embodiment allows the action as a valve and the use of a chamber with a fixed seat * or else with a device for adjusting the seats, making it possible to completely free the shutter from all friction friction against the walls of its seats. seats, which thus allows spontaneous opening or closing of the valve and more. the latter will be made perfectly watertight by its expansion device in the form of a shutter valve.
but this action will be exerted only at the extreme limit of the closing stroke, whereas the flow will have been stopped and the pressure will be exerted in the total way on the shutter, of which the lateral displacement on its axis will be effected at the precise moment of this total closure, it will thus come to rest on its seat with all the power of this sealed pressure. The device allowing this lateral displacement and eccentricity of the shutter on its axis to to relax at the precise moment of closing the tap is claimed as novelty.
In this embodiment of the valve, it is possible to use a shutter of the wood-bucket or cinnamon type, but it is preferably recommended a ball-shaped valve which, according to the system claimed as new, will act as a wood-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
bucket and will operate with a 1/4 turn on a control shaft with an axial hole drilled laterally for flow.
The great advantage of this ball shutter is that it allows the central adjustment of the pressure resistance by a single screw as well as an extremely simple construction in a cylindrical chamber, while to obtain the same result with a plug or cinnamon shutter, it is important whether the chamber is square or rectangular to allow guided sliding of the seats and it is also necessary to have at least two screws with stop flanges actuating in grooves provided in the cover to allow the adjustment of the seats which will slide in friction sealed in the body of the valve and will be fitted to the cover, a gasket of suitable thickness will ensure the seal.
The plug or cinnamon will be mounted on its axis in the center of the chamber and the pressure of the bearings against the walls will be adjusted by screwing or unscrewing the screws. Following the same principle of valve action of a 1/4 turn tap, the ball can be replaced by one or two ball fractions representing only the shutter parts forming the cup and in this case, this or these ball fractions can act exclusively as a double or single shutter depending on the need for use, the connecting body of the domes may form only one part with the domes at each ends, and this shutter body would be drilled in its d 'a rectangular housing for its control axis as for the ball, or even,
one or two domes can be mounted at one or both ends of a cylindrical or other axis and this axis would slide freely in a housing drilled laterally in the axis, providing stops if necessary to limit the displacement stroke lateral. These latter achievements by fragment of beads in sealing domes is also claimed as deriving from the Initial principle of the patent. This latter embodiment is particularly simple and of a more advantageous cost price.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, the three main embodiments.
