DISTRIBUTEUR D'ALLUMAGE A BLINDAGE ANTI-PARASITES.

IGNITION DISTRIBUTOR WITH ANTI-PARASITE SHIELDING.
The present invention relates to a high voltage ignition distributor for internal combustion engines, provided with anti-interference shielding, and it consists in that this distributor has an outer cylinder head of metal and an inner cylinder head of insulating material, centered. and fixed in the outer yoke and carrying the distribution electrodes, the outer metal yoke being provided with mechanical means for fixing the high voltage conductors and other means for establishing the electrical connection between ground. and a braided metal sheath surrounding and shielding each high voltage conductor,
while the inner cylinder head is internally provided with means making it possible to establish an electrical connection between the conductors and the distribution electrodes embedded in the insulating material, the two cylinder heads being able to be fixed simultaneously on the housing of the distributor by means of common fixing means.
The appended drawing represents an embodiment of the object of the invention.

positive fixing of the conductors, as shown in FIG. 1.
Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing show only the upper edge of the distributor housing 1. On this housing rests the outer cylinder head 2, a rebate 2 'of which ensures centering. The inner cylinder head 3 is centered in the outer cylinder head 2, and has a peripheral rim 3 'intended for centering in the outer cylinder head 2. The two cylinder heads are assembled by screws 4, while common bolts 5 allowing their simultaneous fixing on the housing 1 of the distributor. The inner yoke 3 is made of insulating material, and the distribution electrodes 6 are embedded therein during molding, in a manner known per se.
In the insulating material of this inner yoke is also embedded a central contact pad 7 to which the high voltage current, supplied by a coil not shown, arrives by a contact brush 10 and a connection blade 11. At the upper end, the distributor shaft carries in a manner known per se a rotary brush 9 carrying a contact blade 8 applied to the central pad 7. This blade takes the high voltage current and passes it through the pallet 9 ' of the brush 9 successively on the fixed electrodes 6.
The outer cylinder head 2 has a number of hollow bosses 12 intended to receive a number of high voltage conductors 13 equal to the number of engine cylinders. In shielded ignition installations, the high voltage conductors are also shielded by a 13 'braided sheath which surrounds them tightly. When connecting the conductors to the distributor, and apart from the mechanical fixing of the sheath, this must be very carefully connected to the metal yoke 2 if one wishes to obtain an effective anti-interference shielding. According to the invention, this connection takes place by the fact that the hollow bosses 12 are internally threaded and have a conical bottom 12 '. A bored plug 14 is screwed into the internal thread of the boss, the end 14 'of which is recessed in a cone.
Between the conical bottom 12 'of the boss and the cone-shaped recessed end 14' of the plug 14 is interposed a lens-shaped washer 15, of elastic material, surrounding the conductor. During the tightening of the plug 14, this washer is tightened a little and thus wedges the conductor introduced into the bore.
To obtain a good metallic connection between the conductor sheath of the conductor and the cylinder head 2, the end of the conductor to be connected is first stripped, and a metal sleeve 16 is inserted between the sheath and the insulation of the conductor. This sleeve has at the lower end a flange 16 'matching the shape of the hollow cone 14' of the stopper, and between which and said recess 14 'is inserted the end of the sheath 13' of the connector. ductor to be strongly wedged while tightening the cap. A similar fixing is provided for the primary conductor 17 which is only used in the case of magneto-electric ignition devices, and which serves to short-circuit the primary circuit when the engine is stopped.
This conductor does not, however, have a metallic sheath since it only allows low voltage current to pass, and therefore cannot produce any disturbance. The primary conductor is much thinner than the high voltage conductors 13, and it is secured by a bore plug 18 and a lens-shaped washer 19 of resilient material of proportionately smaller dimensions.
In the axis of the bosses of the cylinder head 2, the inner cylinder head 3 has a corresponding number of blind holes having the diameter of the high voltage conductors 13 stripped of the metal sheath. These holes open out at the level of the distribution electrodes 6 embedded in the insulating material. Each of the electrodes has in the axis of the hole 20 a threaded hole, in which is screwed after mechanical fixing of the conductors 13 with the plugs 14, a head screw 21 whose shank ends in a point - lie down. While tightening the screw, this point therefore penetrates into the core of the conductor, in this way it establishes a good metallic contact.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
and at the same time ensures the clamping of the conductor against the side wall of the hole 20.
