VALVE FOR LIQUID TANK.
In the art of valves controlling the passage of liquids, sealing is certainly the most important problem. With a view to solving this problem, relatively complex and delicate devices have been proposed. The acuteness of the problem is appreciably increased when, as is the case in gasoline tanks, the valve controlling the departure of the liquid, is under a relatively high static load when the tank is filled, said valve being arranged at the end of the tank. '' mouth of the outlet duct from the bottom of the tank
According to the invention, an extremely simple eminently robust valve is produced, not comprising any delicate member but conditioned in such a way as to introduce in some way a double sealing condition.
Substantially, this valve is constituted by an upper closed cylinder and comprising lateral openings, this cylinder being engaged in the mouth of the valve body and capable of resting on its seat by a conical shoulder. This axially movable tubular element delimits., With the corresponding part of the valve body, an annular chamber in which is disposed a coil spring surrounding said tubular element. The latter is capable of bringing with it a ring arranged in line with its lower part and capable of urging said spring in compression when said tubular element of the valve is brought into the open position.
As ,, on the other hand, this spring bears on a rigid ring in contact with an elastic ring, the latter is subjected to a canpression effect which, by the elastic deformation of this ring, determines a radial pressure force on the corresponding part of said tubular element. This radial pressure of the elastic ring and the intimate contact between the conical shoulder of said tubular element and of its seat provide the two sealing means characterizing this valve.
We can obviously give these different elements shapes and sizes appropriate to the applications.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The means of maneuvering the movable element of the valve, the arrangement of the elastic sealing ring, the conditioning and the arrangement of the elastic element capable of directly or indirectly stressing said elastic ring as well as the bearing elements of said element elastic are obviously variable, being capable of being achieved by any mechanical equivalence, that is to say by any members or means capable of producing the effects characterizing the valve object of the invention.
For all practical purposes, one embodiment is described below without any limiting nature whatsoever with reference to the appended drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a longitudinal section through the valve shown in the closed position; FIG. 2 is a section taken on line II-II of FIG. 1; FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 1, the movable element being shown during the opening maneuver.
In this embodiment, the valve according to the invention comprises an elbow body. 1 terminated at both ends by a fixing flange, respectively 2-3 By studs such as with nuts ±, said body is fixed to a ring welded to the bottom of the reservoir in line with the flow orifice 8. Between said ring and the flange 2, is interposed a second ring ± having an internal pan 10 in which is engaged a ring 11 of suitable elastic material.
In the vertical part of the elbow body. 1 is engaged the movable member of the valve formed by a tubular element 12 open at its lower part and closed at its upper part by the bottom 13, which has a protrusion 14 to which is capable of come and fix the rod 15 leading to the actuator (not shown). The tubular element 12 has, towards its upper part, side windows 16. The outside diameter of said tubular element 12 is less than the inside diameter of the corresponding part of the valve body 1, so as to define an annular chamber 17 in which there is a coil spring 18.
The latter bears below on a ring 19 secured to the translational movement of the tubular element 12 by means of a segment partially engaged in a suitable groove provided towards the lower edge of said tubular element, and above on a ring in contact with the aforesaid elastic sealing ring 11. The tubular element 12 has a superior peripheral shoulder 22 having a conical surface 23 capable of coming into contact with the corresponding conical part 24 of the aforesaid intermediate ring 9. In the closed position, as shown in Figure 1, the tubular element 12 is biased by the spring 18 and also by the static pressure of the liquid in the reservoir 7.
By this double bias, the conical part 23 is firmly applied to a seat at the same time as the elastic ring 11, by its elastic deformation, exerts a radial pressure cooperating very effectively in the sealing. When the tubular member 12 is brought into its open position, as shown in Figure 3, the conical part 23 leaves its seat and the liquid can flow through the windows 16 and the interior of the tubular body of the valve. . When the valve is in the fully turned-down position, the lower part of the windows is above the sealing ring 11.
As a result, the liquid flows inside the tubular body, without coming into contact with this ring, which is thus protected against abrasion during the flow. If, when the valve is closed, a foreign body is interposed between the two faces of the conical seat, thus eliminating the sealing by contact, the sealing ring 11 ensures the sealing, the upper part of the windows being below this ring. There is thus a double security.
As we can see, these elements are simple, compact and robust.
Since the contact surfaces are relatively large, the specific pressures are relatively reduced and, therefore, wear is also
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
minimal
The same effects can be produced by any equivalent technical means without departing from the scope of the invention. This extends to the valve itself as well as to its constituent parts as well as to tanks fitted with such valves.
The invention particularly but not exclusively recommends the application of this valve for the equipment of tankers and other similar arrangements.
