FAUTEUIL OU CANAPE TRANSFORMABLE EN LIT.
La présente invention a pour objet un fauteuil ou canapé qui est transformable en lit par une simple manoeuvre de rabattement du siège et du dossier.
Suivant l'invention, les montants du dossier sont divisés en deux parties, une partie antérieure rigidement fixée à l'abattant du siège et destinés à former les pieds de support antérieurs de l'abattant quand celui-ci est rabattu en avant du siège pour la transformation en lit, et une partie postérieure rigidement fixée au dossier et articulée sur le siè- ge pour permettre de rabattre le dossier en arrière du siège, ces deux par- ties des montants étant verrouillées l'une à l'autre pour maintenir le dos- sier dressé en position normale d'utilisation du fauteuil ou canapé.
On obtient ainsi une construction simple, robuste et aisée à manoeuvrer, dont une forme d'exécution sera décrite à titre d'exemple avec référence au dessin annexé, dans lequel :

Sur ces figures, 1 désigne la partie antérieure du montant de dossier qui est solidaire de l'abattant 2 du siège, et 3 désigne la partie postérieure, solidaire du dossier 4.
Cette partie 3 du montant est articulée sur le cadre 5 du siège, au moyen d'un pivot 6 engagé dans une coulisse verticale 7, ce qui permet non seulement le pivotement mais aussi un mouvement vertical de la partie 3 par rapport à la partie 1 du montant, mouvement qui permet de dégager d'une gâche 8 de la partie 1, une cheville 9 qui est solidaire de la partie 3 et

dont l'engagement dans la gâche 8 verrouille ensemble les parties 1 et 3 du montant dans la position dressée du dossier 4 (Fig. 1).
Pour transformer le fauteuil en lit, on soulève le dossier 4 de façon à dégager les chevilles 9 (Fig. 2), puis on rabat le dossier en arrière (Fig. 3) pour qu'il repose en position oblique sur une béquille 10, articulée à sa partie supérieure (Fig. 4). En même temps, on retourne le coussin amovible 11 du dossier avec sa partie épaisse en haut, pour en for- mer un traversin (Fig. 4).
D'autre part, on rabat en avant du siège 5, par pivotement au- tour des charnières 12, l'abattant 2 qui vient se placer dans le prolonge- ment du siège et repose sur des pieds constitués par la partie antérieure 1 des montants du dossier, que le rabattement a amenée en avant et vers le bas (Fig. 4).
Le matelas du lit est fait de deux galettes 13, 14 reliées par une couture 15 formant charnière, et il est supporté par deux séries de res- sorts à boudin 16 et 17 tendus transversalement entre des paires de cornières 18, 19, respectivement dans le cadre 5 du siège et dans l'abattant 2. Pour venir de niveau avec la galette 13, la galette 14 de l'abattant qui ne doit supporter que les jambes de l'usager, est plus mince que la galette 13 desti- née à supporter le corps. Cela permet aussi de garnir l'abattant d'une galet- te de siège 20 qui est supportée (Fig. 1) par les mêmes ressorts 17 que la galette de matelas 14.
On replie le fauteuil par la manoeuvre inverse de celle décri- te, en repliant l'abattant 2 sur le siège 5 et en redressant le dossier 4, qui est soulevé puis abaissé pour engager les chevilles 9 dans les gâches 8 et reverrouiller ainsi les parties de montants 1 et 3 l'une à l'autre.
Le fauteuil peut comporter des accoudoirs 21 qui sont alors fixés à la partie antérieure 1 des montants de dossier.
La construction décrite s'applique aussi bien à un canapé qu'à un fauteuil et, dans les deux cas, on peut prévoir sous le siège un coffre pour ranger la literie.
Bien entendu, des modifications, notamment dans le système de verrouillage des deux parties des montants de dossier, peuvent être apportées sans sortir du cadre de l'invention.
REVENDICATIONS. l.- Fauteuil ou canapé transformable en lit par rabattement du siège et du dossier, caractérisé en ce que les montants du dossier sont di- visés en deux parties,une partie antérieure qui est solidaire de l'abattant du siège et destinée à former les pieds de support antérieurs de l'abattant quand ce dernier est rabattu en avant du siège, et une partie postérieure qui est solidaire du dossier et articulée sur le siège pour permettre de ra- battre le dossier en arrière du siège, ces deux parties des montants étant verrouillées ensemble pour maintenir le dossier dressé en position normale d'utilisation du fauteuil ou canapé.

ARMCHAIR OR SOFA CONVERTING INTO A BED.
The present invention relates to an armchair or sofa which can be transformed into a bed by a simple maneuver of folding down the seat and the backrest.
According to the invention, the backrest uprights are divided into two parts, a front part rigidly fixed to the seat flap and intended to form the front support legs of the flap when the latter is folded in front of the seat to the transformation into a bed, and a rear part rigidly fixed to the backrest and articulated on the seat to allow the backrest to be folded behind the seat, these two parts of the uprights being locked to each other to hold the seat. back up in the normal use position of the armchair or sofa.
A simple, robust and easy to maneuver construction is thus obtained, one embodiment of which will be described by way of example with reference to the appended drawing, in which:

In these figures, 1 denotes the front part of the backrest upright which is integral with the flap 2 of the seat, and 3 denotes the rear part, integral with the backrest 4.
This part 3 of the upright is articulated on the frame 5 of the seat, by means of a pivot 6 engaged in a vertical slide 7, which not only allows the pivoting but also a vertical movement of the part 3 relative to the part 1 of the upright, movement which makes it possible to release from a keeper 8 of part 1, a pin 9 which is integral with part 3 and

the engagement of which in the keeper 8 locks parts 1 and 3 of the upright together in the upright position of the backrest 4 (Fig. 1).
To transform the chair into a bed, lift the backrest 4 so as to release the ankles 9 (Fig. 2), then fold the backrest back (Fig. 3) so that it rests in an oblique position on a crutch 10, articulated at its upper part (Fig. 4). At the same time, the removable cushion 11 of the backrest is turned over with its thick part at the top, to form a bolster (Fig. 4).
On the other hand, the flap 2 which is placed in the extension of the seat and rests on legs formed by the front part 1 of the uprights is folded in front of the seat 5, by pivoting around the hinges 12. of the backrest, which the folding has brought forward and downward (Fig. 4).
The mattress of the bed is made of two cakes 13, 14 connected by a seam 15 forming a hinge, and it is supported by two series of coil springs 16 and 17 stretched transversely between pairs of angles 18, 19, respectively in the frame 5 of the seat and in the flap 2. To come flush with the wafer 13, the wafer 14 of the seat which must only support the legs of the user, is thinner than the wafer 13 intended for support the body. This also enables the flap to be fitted with a seat roller 20 which is supported (Fig. 1) by the same springs 17 as the mattress cover 14.
The wheelchair is folded up by the reverse maneuver to that described, by folding the flap 2 on the seat 5 and straightening the backrest 4, which is raised then lowered to engage the pegs 9 in the keepers 8 and thus relock the parts. of uprights 1 and 3 to each other.
The chair may include armrests 21 which are then fixed to the front part 1 of the back uprights.
The construction described applies to a sofa as well as to an armchair and, in both cases, a box can be provided under the seat for storing bedding.
Of course, modifications, in particular in the locking system of the two parts of the backrest uprights, can be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
CLAIMS. l.- Armchair or sofa convertible into a bed by folding down the seat and the backrest, characterized in that the back uprights are divided into two parts, a front part which is integral with the seat flap and intended to form the front support legs of the flap when the latter is folded in front of the seat, and a rear part which is integral with the backrest and articulated on the seat to allow the backrest to be folded back behind the seat, these two parts of the uprights being locked together to keep the back upright in the normal use position of the chair or sofa.
