IMPROVEMENT IN COLD TUBE BENDING MACHINES.
The present invention relates to machines for cold bending tubes or others, in which a piece of form, pushed by a bydraulic cylinder, by screw, or by any other means, acts on the pipe supported on two mobile bearings whose axes are kept apart, symmetrically on either side of the thrust axis, in holes carried by a lower flange and in the corresponding holes of an upper flange, generally folded back into place on the pipe, after installation of the one -this.
The holes are spaced to correspond to the spacings of the movable bearings corresponding to the diameter of the pipes to be bent, it is convenient to mark these indications on the bender, which has been done so far on the upper face of the upper flange.
This approach has the drawback of not allowing the reading of these indications, precisely when the axes of the bearings are placed in the holes of the lower flange, the upper flange then being raised and the graduation, even if it was readable, far away. of said bearings.
On the other hand, in benders with sliding upper flanges, such a graduation moving with this flange would be unusable.
It is very important, in order to avoid any eccentric force on the jack 1 that the bearings are placed in symmetrical holes of the thrust axis, 2, that their spacing corresponds to the characteristics of the tubes to be bent. It is therefore necessary that these indications are clear and clearly legible before, during and after the installation of the movable bearings for the correct installation and the verification that this is indeed the case.
This is what the invention achieves, by arranging the graduations visible from above, in a strip running along the front edge of the lower flange, arranged in such a way that it remains visible even when the flange is
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
that upper is folded into working position on the movable bearings.
These indications, facing the corresponding holes and symmetrical two by two on each side of the thrust axis, may be engraved or raised in relief on the top of the lower flange, the front part of which will, for this purpose, be sufficiently projecting from the 'front of the upper flange in place. "
To be more visible, they may be worn on strips, metal for example which, to be protected from shocks and overloads, will preferably be arranged and fixed in a groove or in a projection formed parallel to the front edge of the lower flange.
The single appended figure shows, in schematic perspective, a non-limiting example of the invention applied to a hydraulic hand bender with an upper flange sliding in a lifting guide.
In this figure, 1 is the body of the cylinder, which can be actuated by the lever of pump 2. The rod 3 of this cylinder actuates the pressure pad 4 which bends the tube supported on the mobile pads 5 which are placed by engaging the lower end of the axis 10 of each bearing in one of the marked holes 6, drilled in the fixed flange 7 permanently connected to the head 8 of the jack 1 by the arms 9.
After placing the pins 10 of these side pads in the holes of the fixed flange, the movable flange 11 is folded over the tube, then placed between the movable side pads 5 and the pressure pad 4, this movable flange 11 being , here, mounted slidably laterally in the central bracket 12 connected, articulated, by arms 13 to the head 8 of the cylinder 1.
The folding places the upper ends of the axes 10 of the movable bearings 5 in the holes 15 corresponding to the holes 6 of the fixed flange. The correct position of these bearings depends only on the correct choice of holes 6, in accordance with the dimensions of the tube to be bent.
So that 1, the choice of holes 6 on the fixed lower flange is easy and; 2 in order to be able to check, before bending, that the axes of these bearings have been placed symmetrically in the holes suitable for the tube to be bent, the indications of the references relating to these holes 6 are carried, in the example described, on strips of metal 16a, 16b, in brass, for example, bearing the markings '17 ±!:, 17b, * of the various
EMI2.1
holes-6 correspond to them, -these indentations being repeated symmetrically on either side of the sagittal plane of the apparatus.
These two series of reference marks - could be carried on a single band extending on either side of the sagittal plane ..., .- .., t. bendant @s la mi Plan For their visibility before, during and after the installation of the movable bearings and the folding upper flange, these bands come out fixed, screwed or riveted, parallel to the row of holes 6, in an open spring , with a flat bottom 18, below the upper level and in front of the front edge of the fixed lower flange 7, so as to be protected to the greatest extent from accidental shocks and friction.
Without departing from the spirit of the invention, the indications relating to the holes 6 could be directly carried by the metal of the lower flange, arranged in a visible manner as above, in a part of the flange in front of the holes. .
These indications could be in hollow or in relief, come by molding, intaglio printing, engraving, or any other process. These indications, instead of being aligned opposite the holes, can be offset with respect to the corresponding holes 6, and be attached to them by a trace clearly indicating the hole that each indication relates to and clearly visible at all times. '
Instead of being carried by a horizontal surface perpendicular to the axes of the holes 6, the marking indications could be
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
carried on a part of inclined support, integral with the lower flange, to facilitate reading by the operator.
