<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

POTATO PLANT MACHINE.
The present invention relates to a potato planting machine comprising a rotating bucket chain inclined in the direction of movement of the machine, or a plurality of such bucket chains, to which the material to be planted is fed from. a reserve safe located in front of these chains.
One of the aims of the invention is to allow the production of a machine for planting potatoes with a significantly improved operation and use compared to the machines known hitherto. Above all, we must obtain both an easy and safe rectification of operating errors (buckets without potatoes or containing two potatoes), as well as a possibility of easy sorting of bad potatoes and foreign bodies such as stones, the machine can also be used as a machine for several jobs and can be easily hitched behind a tractor without hindering its control.
In potato planting machines with bucket chains, the speed of succession of the buckets is too high, and as a result the time available for correcting operating errors is too short to be able to ensure easily and efficiently. certainty this rectification by hand. Further, the known planting machines are in fact single-purpose machines which find little success in agriculture because the potato planting season does not. not constitute a peak of work such as to make profitable the acquisition of a machine usable for a single job. @.
One of the features of the invention is the arrangement and arrangement of the bucket chains such that easy and satisfactory manual rectification of dispensing errors is made.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It is also possible that the machine can also be used not only as a planting machine, but also for other purposes, and can be hitched up behind a tractor to serve as a trailer or tillage implement.
According to the invention, the arrangement is such that the bucket chains :, at the lower part of which the material to be planted is brought, are released at their upper part so as to allow easy monitoring, devices being furthermore provided in rear of the upper return point of the bucket chains to positively control the fall of the material to be planted in the furrow. Each bucket chain is advantageously constituted by two or a greater number of rows of juxtaposed buckets, the buckets of neighboring rows being offset with respect to one another. In this way, a possibility of satisfactory monitoring is obtained, and in addition a possibility of rectifying any errors which are easy and convenient, with particular safety.
The speed of chains with buckets having several rows of juxtaposed buckets can be significantly lower than the speed of chains having only one row of buckets.
Thus, the speed of bucket chains of this type comprising two rows of juxtaposed buckets offset with respect to each other can be about one tenth of the speed of movement of the machine if the buckets are additionally arranged immediately. 'one behind the other in a manner known per se. The buckets advantageously have the shape of a truncated pyramid, the arrangement being such that the wall of a bucket facing forward in the direction of rotation and its two side walls are inclined relative to the transport plane, while its wall posterior is perpendicular to it.
The inclination of the front wall and of the two side walls is judiciously designed to prevent any jamming of a potato. Due to the inclined upward position of the bucket chain, however, the rear wall is preferably perpendicular to prevent the potato from rolling out of the bucket. The front wall of a bucket in the direction of rotation advantageously has an inclination greater than that of the side walls. In addition, the outer edges of all the buckets of a chain must lie in the same plane, so that the bucket chain works like a flat surface provided with immediately adjacent trough-shaped cavities. Thanks to this conformation of the buckets, an easy and safe placement and distribution of the material to be planted is obtained.
In order to obtain for this material to be planted a drop height as low as possible and for the machine a reduced length and height, the arrangement is such that the buckets rub against a covering partition going almost from the upper return point to the point lower return link when they are on the lower end of the chain, this partition preventing the material to be planted from falling before the lower return point. This covering partition is advantageously formed by a band rotating in the opposite direction of the bucket chains. The lower end of the bucket chain and the upper end of the belt then turn in the same direction.
The buckets are thus closed from the upper return point substantially to the Lower return point. So that the material to be planted, formed here by the separated potatoes, cannot advance and cannot get caught, due to the particular conformation of the cups, in the wedge-shaped part formed between the strip and the front wall of 'maximum tilt of a bucket during operation, so that in addition to the load due to the weight of the material, in addition to the load due to the weight of the material, an additional load per pressure would occur, the belt speed is suitably slightly lower to that of the bucket chain.
The material to be planted, in particular the potato, thus receives a rolling motion which, although reduced, pushes it back into the buckets and eliminates the effect of jamming or in fact prevents it from occurring. The upper face of the endless belt is preferably made of rubber or the like.
Due to the low speed of rotation of the bucket chains, it makes sense to positively control the distribution of the material to be planted, in order to obtain a precise and uniform planting spacing, regardless of the size and conformation of the plant. material to plant.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
A drop adjustment flap is provided for this purpose onto which the material to be planted arrives after its distribution through the covering partition or the strip, this flap being disposed in the vicinity of the lower return point. After the distribution of the material to be planted through the covering partition or the strip, the material to be planted first falls onto the shutter, at irregular spacings corresponding to its size and shape.
The shutter positively controls the subsequent fall of the material to be planted in such a way that it arrives at precise spacings at the planting furrow. The shutter is therefore advantageously positively controlled, this positive control being judiciously ensured regardless of the movement of the bucket chains. After leaving the shutter, the potatoes arrive in a planting tube known per se and, by free fall inside this, to the planting furrow dug by a previous share and then closed by organs posterior recovery
A seat for the farm worker is preferably arranged symmetrically to the bucket chains.
This arrangement is conveniently such that the chains lie within a visual field angle of about 50 or less.
This provides the most favorable conditions in all cases that may arise. The length of the double chains located in the visual field is judiciously such that the material to be planted corresponding to an advance distance of approximately 6 meters is located in this visual field. The chains are then, for example for a two-row machine, directed upwards after the reception of the material to be planted from the reserve box, at an angle of approximately 60, and this in such a way that 20 buckets approximately per chain are within the visual field of the worker. Advantageously, the wall of the reserve box directed towards the bucket chains is shaped so as to constitute a seat for a worker.
To obtain spatial ratios as favorable as possible, this seat can protrude into the trunk approximately from the space occupied by the worker
According to other features of the invention, the bucket chains can, with their covering partition or the endless belts, form with the adjustment device and the reserve box provided with a seat and the other devices to plant accessories , a single group or assembly, which is removably mounted on a particular frame. This frame can be provided with devices so as to be able to serve, after dismantling the entire planting device and fitting the necessary tools, as a soil working or cultivation device. Thus, the frame can, for example after fitting suitable tools, serve as a four-row cultivation apparatus for growing tubers.
Likewise, the chassis can be shaped at the same time as a support frame for receiving a loading device, to be able to serve as a trailer after dismantling the entire planting device.
The frame itself is thoughtfully made in a lightweight fashion to form a tubular frame. The axles or wheels are advantageously provided with rocket steering, in order to be able to direct the machine during planting or also for cultivation work. So that it is possible to eliminate this faculty of direction by rockets according to the present conditions, it is studied judiciously to be able to be blocked. Rocket ¯direction ¯ can also be studied in such a way that it can be locked in a tilted position.
This can prevent the machine from skidding when working on a slope. The seat for a worker directing the machine, as well as the steering device, are judiciously arranged laterally. With this arrangement, the worker managing the machine can see the field sideways to the tractor, and can thus steer the machine with precision. The seat and the steering device are preferably removable, and are preferably fitted by interlocking.
In this way, it is possible to quickly assemble and disassemble this seat and this steering device. The possibility of additional steering by a second worker mounted on the machine makes it possible to obtain a very precise mode of movement, even in the most difficult terrain.
In order to prevent possible lateral oscillations of the trac-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
If they have an unfavorable influence on the work of the planting machine, the point of articulation of the planting machine and the tractor is found substantially at the point of intersection of the diagonals connecting the centers of the wheels.
This articulation also provides, during a very close coupling or for a construction very close to the planting machine relative to the tractor, an easy steering ability, and it also allows the adaptation of a very long drawbar with the greater benefits that result. In addition, the arrangement is advantageously such as the plane machine. ter rests on the tractor at two points as far apart as possible in a horizontal plane when it is brought into the transport position. This arrangement is particularly useful when the support device is configured in such a way that the machine can be raised or lowered by means of the lifting mechanism of a tractor, since otherwise the machine would tilt sideways into the transport position, this is ie when it is raised.
The possibility of raising or lowering the machine for the work using the lifting mechanism of a tractor is interesting in particular during a U-turn of the train formed by the tractor and the machine at the ends of the field. -tour is thus made easier. The machine can therefore be made simpler since it is possible to do away with a particular lifting device.
The invention thus makes it possible to obtain notable advantages and to remedy the drawbacks which still characterize the machines known hitherto. The new construction and arrangement of the planting chains allows a single worker to watch without fatigue the two bucket chains arranged in the vicinity of his seat and correct dispensing errors even when the machine is moving at high speed. The construction method of the chains also makes it possible to give the machine a more compact construction. The overall construction of the machine can be made simpler.
The whole planting device can take the form of a single unit, which can be quickly and easily removed from the frame and which can be placed there just as quickly. This then makes it possible to equip the chassis with devices making it possible to transform it into a machine, an apparatus or a vehicle intended for other uses, so that a machine with multiple uses is obtained.
The description which follows, given with reference to the appended drawings given without limitation, will make it possible to better understand the invention.
Fig. 1 is a schematic side view of a machine for planting potatoes coupled to a tractor.
Fig. 2 is a plan view corresponding to FIG. 1.
Figure 3 shows on a larger scale in profile the lower part of a bucket chain.
Figures 4 and 5 are side and rear views of a godeto '
The material to be planted arrives from reserve 1 to the lower part of the bucket chains 2. In the machine considered as an example, it is a two-row machine, comprising two bucket chains 2 having between them the proper spacing. Each bucket chain is formed by two rows of juxtaposed buckets, the buckets of which, which immediately follow each other, are offset with respect to each other.
An endless belt 3 is disposed below the lower strand of the bucket chains, the upper strand of this belt 3. moving in the same direction as the lower strand of the bucket chains 2. The belt extends approximately from a level above the upper ± return point of the bucket chains up to a short distance from their lower return point 5. The return rollers 19 of the cover strip 2 are offset upwards with respect to the wheels at chains 4,5 of the bucket chain 2, thereby preventing particularly large potatoes from being crushed between the chain wheels and the guide rollers of the cover belt.
At the height of the upper chain wheel of the bucket chain 2, the cover strip 3 can also move downwards, and at the height of the lower roller of
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the cover band the bucket chain can move upwards.
The cover belt travels at a slower speed than the bucket chains, so that the planting material in the buckets is forced each time towards the back wall of the buckets, whereas this material would otherwise tend, as a result. of the cone-shaped longitudinal section of the buckets, to get stuck in their tipo
A positively controlled shutter 6 is disposed below the lower return point of the bucket chain or rotating belt, the material to be planted falling on this shutter when it is released by the belt and can then leave the buckets. After distribution of the material to be planted through the shutter 6, this material to be planted falls into the drop tube 7 and through the latter enters the furrow.
There is shown in FIG. 3 how one can ensure the control of the shutter 6 by means of a rotating disc $ provided with suitable notches 9. The valve 6 is connected in this case to a lever with two arms 10, one end of which engages in the disc when it reaches a notch 9, so that the flap 6 can then pivot downwards around its axis 11 allowing the passage of the material to be planted, formed in this case by the potato 12 located on it shutter. The sector 13 of the disc 8 which follows a notch 9 again folds the lever 10 and thus raises the shutter 6. The linkage connecting the shutter 6 to the double lever la has the form of a tension spring, so that flap 6 is not forcefully returned upward if a potato gets stuck between flap 6 and planting tube 7.
The worker's seat 14 is disposed symmetrically between the bucket chains 2 and is housed in the rear wall of the reserve box 1, in which it protrudes. The seat 14 is so arranged with respect to the bucket chains 2 that the chains are in a field of view angle of approximately 50 or less as shown in Fig. 2.
The cups 18 (Figs. 4 and 5) have the shape of truncated pyramids.
Their front wall in the direction of rotation of the bucket chains then has substantially the same inclination as the other walls, while the rear wall of the buckets 18 is straight in the embodiment considered.
The reserve box 1 simply rests by several uprights provided at its lowest part on the main tubular frame 15. Each of these uprights can be locked on the frame 15 by bolts.
The bucket system corresponding to each row forms in itself a closed constructive group and comprises the bucket chain 2 the cover belt ±, two control flaps 6 and the corresponding planting tube 7 The transformation of the planting machine into cultivation machine or trailer and vice versa is thus significantly simplified.
When the device is raised using the lifting mechanism of the tractor by means of two chains 20, the main tubular frame 15 is supported on two support points juxtaposed laterally on the tractor, so that a lateral tilting of the device once raised is thus prevented. The device is hitched to the drawbar 17 by the drawbar 21, which can only oscillate in a vertical direction, this bar 17 being fixed to the tractor 16. The drawbar 21 is provided with an elongated slot, so that the position of the device can be slightly adjusted lengthwise to the tractor. When the device is lifted, the latter then bears on the support shaft 22 of the tractor, so that it is made integral with the latter.
In the working position, the device can, on the other hand, perform pendular movements, between narrow limits, around the bar 17, so that it is not appreciably subjected to the transverse oscillations of the tractor. The frame is equipped with devices known per se making it possible to transform this frame, after dismantling the aforementioned constructive groups, into a working or cultivating machine, or else into a trailer.
As a result of this interchangeability, the machine can serve several purposes.
