APPARATUS FOR COOLING MILK IN MILK JUGS.
The invention relates to an apparatus for cooling milk in milk jugs, comprising a structure or carcass intended to be placed on the upper opening of the jug and provided with a support for a milk funnel. 'where leaves a conduit leading the milk into the jug, and also a bearing for a bowl-shaped impeller-turbine which can be rotated by a jet of cooling water which strikes it., the impeller -turbine supporting a tubular agitator descending into the jug and by which the cooling water is removed from the bowl-shaped impeller-impeller to go to an outlet opening provided below this impeller.
The object of the invention is to improve the cooling effect obtained by such an apparatus by causing the cooling water to flow, after it has passed through the agitator, downwards over the surface. - outer face of the jug, so that this surface is also cooled by the water before it goes away.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by providing the casing with a ring closed at its base to stop the water flowing from the agitator and provided with holes through which the water can escape. drain downward along the outer surface of the jug.
In order to ensure the correct centering of the apparatus when it is placed on the jug, it will be advantageous to provide the annular carcass with supports of suitable shape, resting on the upper part of the. jug and now the aforesaid ring correctly centered.
An embodiment of a cooling apparatus according to the invention is shown in the drawing in elevation and in section.
In the drawing, the apparatus is shown in position on a milk jug, which is shown in broken lines.
The apparatus is provided with an annular bowl 3 resting on the milk jug by means of supports 2 and forming part of the frame of the machine. The bowl 3 is closed at its top by a cover 4 pre-

feeling an opening 5 through which one can introduce a pipe 6 bringing in pressurized cooling water. The cover 4 comprises an extension 7, in the form of a funnel, and having a tubular central pipe 3, oriented downwards and which serves as a journal for the rotating parts of the machine.
In the embodiment shown, the pipe 8 is provided with two bearings 9 supporting a wheel-turbine 10 in the form of a cup and having vanes 11 against which the water flowing from the pipe 6 can collide; said wheel is thus caused to rotate while the water collects in the bowl-shaped turbine wheel. This is provided with a water flap 12 and supports a tubular stirrer 13 which descends into the milk jug. One end of the tube forming the agitator opens directly into the impeller-turbine 10, while the other end opens into an external radial passage 14, located below the bowl-turbine and oriented towards the annular bowl 3.
The latter has, at its base, holes 15 oriented downwards towards the outer surface of the jug 1.
When pressurized water, introduced through line 6, started the impeller-impeller, then flows downwards through the tubular agitator 13, and when, by centrifugal force, said water has been projected against the inner wall of the fixed ring 3, whereby the flow through the tube 13 will be greatly improved, the water collected in the ring 3 will flow through the holes 15 downward on the outer surface of the jug while cooling it further.
The invention can be practiced in many ways other than that shown, and especially the impeller, the agitator, the stationary bowl forming part of the carcass, and the base thereof can take various shapes without functioning. differently from the same elements described above.
