Fig. 2 en est une vue en plan.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

ELECTRIC ACCUMULATOR BATTERY CAP.
The present invention relates to transparent or translucent reservoir caps for electric storage batteries.
Its purpose is to make better visible, through the parent or translucent wall, the level of the liquid in the reservoir of the plug and at the same time to obtain an indication of this level which is not distorted by the capillary effect of the liquid against the wall.
This object is achieved, according to the invention, by providing in the reservoir of the battery cap, a float capable of following the variations in the level of the liquid contained in the reservoir. This float, particularly if it is of a color contrasting with that of the wall of the tank, is clearly visible through this wall even if the latter is only slightly translucent or is opacified by a deposit of the liquid or by defilements.
In addition, as it floats on the surface of the liquid, it indicates the actual level of the latter and not the apparent level of the liquid against the wall of the tank, which is higher than the actual level due to the meniscus formed by the capil- ity at the surface of the liquid.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of example one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of a floating battery cap according to the invention, and @
Fig. 2 is a plan view.
In the drawing, 1 designates the float, for example a hollow plastic body, possibly surrounded by a stabilizing ring, which can move freely inside the reservoir with translucent wall 2 surmounting the threaded cap 3 including the pipette 4 immersed in the liquid of the accumulator tank (not shown) onto which the cap is screwed.
When tank 2 contains liquid as shown in
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
drawing, the float 1 floats on the surface of the liquid of which it clearly indicates to the observer looking through the wall of the translucent tank 2, the real level n instead of the apparent level n 'only visible by the observation direct liquid against the translucent wall.
Even greatly attenuated by the deposits that the liquid leaves on the wall inside the tank 2 or by dirt outside the latter, the translucency of the wall is still sufficient to allow the mass of the float to be seen. , particularly if it is colored, whereas the generally colorless liquid would not be under the same conditions, that very insufficiently visible for an effective monitoring of its level.
The cover 5 closing the tank 2 is attached to the latter by a tab 6 forming a hinge and is provided with an ear 7 in which it is possible to pass, as well as in a corresponding ear 8 of the tank, the cord of a seal to guarantee the inviolability of the tank. If the grooves 9 provided in the plug for the exhaust of gases and vapors from the battery become blocked and there is an overpressure in the tank 2, the flexibility of the tab 6 allows the cover 5 to lift enough to let gases and vapors escape while remaining sealed.
Of course, the float as well as the reservoir and the battery cap can take any shape other than that described and shown by way of example, and various modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
