- the present invention applies equally to tanks made up of a single tank and to tanks divided or divided into, or made up of, several tanks and that, for this reason, in the description below, the term “tank” covers both.
- Tank inspection hatches have several functions. One of these functions is to provide access to the interior of the tank for filling it and also for work inspection, cleaning or even repair. Another function is to allow the filling rate to be identified of the tank, and yet another function is that of a vent during when filling or emptying the tank if entrances and Separate outputs are provided for these effects. All of these functions, and possibly others, cause openings and frequent closings of the tank inspection hatch. For this reason and, moreover, to facilitate opening and closing of the inspection hatch, this consists of a ferrule cylindrical secured to the shell of the tank, and by a cover usually attached to the shell by a hinge.
- each of the tank inspection hatches therefore protruded at the top of the tank.
- the height of the tank is increased by an additional height likely to constitute a constraint when choosing a tank.
- the tank when the tank must be installed in a local, it must not exceed a given height taking into account dimensions of this room or taking into account the height maximum passage through an opening to access this local. - the ferrule extends inside the envelope and, relative to the top of the envelope, at a level such that the upper surface of the cover defines a plane extending parallel to, and at the shortest distance possible from the top of the envelope, the shell being surrounded by a channel opening at at least one place on the envelope.
- the height of the ferrule is chosen so that the upper face of the cover and no other part of the inspection hatch are located at a level higher than that of the top of the envelope.
- the depth of the inspection hatch shell is chosen so that that the channel is divided into two parts.
- the ferrule of the inspection hatch is lowered inside the envelope, depending on the diameter of the ferrule and of the radius defining the curvature of the upper part of the tank, at a level such as the bottom of the channel, represented by a circle in the case of a cylindrical inspection hatch, cuts the tank shell in at least two places.
- This preferred arrangement of the invention provides the channel for two openings allowing flow to both one side and towards the other side of the tank.
- the ferrule is cylindrical with revolution and the channel opens in two places diametrically opposite on the envelope, these openings dividing the channel into two parts each of which surrounds less than half of the shell.

- the tank without departing from the scope of the present invention, either divided into several compartments each of which is provided with a inspection, or that the tank forms a single compartment, but either provided with several inspection hatches, or even that the tank is formed, regardless of a possible distribution in several compartments, by two or more envelope parts cylindrical, cylindrical of revolution or frustoconical, the axes form various angles between them.
- the inspection hatch is shown, to simplify the drawing and the explanation, as being constituted essentially by a cylindrical ferrule 21 of revolution and a cover 22 to circular circumference.
- the inspection hatch is shown, to simplify the drawing and the explanation, as being constituted essentially by a cylindrical ferrule 21 of revolution and a cover 22 to circular circumference.
- other forms of the visit for example oval hatches, are conceivable, without depart from the scope of the present invention, in order to respond to special needs arising, for example, from use particular of the tank.
- the inspection hatch 2 and more particularly the ferrule 21, is surrounded on most of its periphery by two channels 241 and 242, referenced together as channel 24. This particular arrangement of the division of the channel 24 in two parts is obtained by a sufficient lowering h of the hatch visit inside the envelope.
- Figure 2 shows, disproportionately for a better clarity of the drawing, the arrangement of the invention according to which a plane A defined by the upper face 23 of the cover 22, extends to the smallest possible distance d from the vertex line 11 of envelope 1.
- This distance d can be of the order of 1 or 2 cm, while the tank inspection hatches used up to now exceed the envelope by ten or twenty cm about.
- Figures 3 and 4 show two sections transverse of the tank according to the invention at an axial distance one from the other. More specifically, Figure 3 shows a cross section passing through a line A-A corresponding to the place of the greatest depth of the channel relative to the envelope, while Figure 4 shows a section transverse passing through a line B-B constituting the axis of ferrule revolution 21.
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a tank provided with a inspection and a tank vehicle comprising such a tank.
More particularly, the invention relates to a tank formed by a cylindrical envelope, closed at its two ends, which is provided, at the top, with an inspection hatch, also called manhole or manhole, comprising a cylindrical ferrule and a cover.
It is specified for the purposes of the description of the present invention that the term "cylindrical" must be understood as designating any general shape of the tank envelope with the exception of the spherical shape. Indeed, the present invention applies to tanks constituted by an elongated tank, the precise shape of the envelope, namely cylindrical, cylindrical of revolution, frustoconical or all mixed forms, being indifferent, since the invention relates more specifically the arrangement of the inspection hatch on the tank and the part of the tank in which the inspection hatch is located.
Similarly, it is specified that the present invention applies equally to tanks made up of a single tank and to tanks divided or divided into, or made up of, several tanks and that, for this reason, in the description below, the term "tank" covers both.
Tank inspection hatches have several functions.
The inspection hatch, or if necessary each of the the tank inspection hatches therefore protruded at the top of the tank. As a result, the height of the tank is increased by an additional height likely to constitute a constraint when choosing a tank.
Indeed, when the tank must be installed in a local, it must not exceed a given height taking into account dimensions of this room or taking into account the height maximum passage through an opening to access this local. And when the tank is intended to equip a vehicle road or rail vehicle, the vehicle comprising the tank must not exceed the regulatory height according to the corresponding template. The inspection hatch projecting from relative to the tank shell, the effective height of the vehicle, and therefore also the useful volume of the tank, is thus reduced.
A tank formed by a cylindrical envelope, closed at both ends and provided at the top with a inspection hatch is known from document FR-A-2670470. The inspection hatch includes a cylindrical shell which is the seat of a cover and which extends inside of the envelope.
At equal volume, this loss of height can sometimes be compensated by a greater width of the tank. However, this possibility of compensation is generally limited by the same template as that limiting the height of the tank.
Compensating for the lack of volume with a more great length of the tank is not always possible either more than for regulatory reasons, for reasons reasons of tank stability or other reasons.
The object of the invention is to propose a tank whose inspection hatch does not exceed the silhouette of the tank, but which nevertheless presents a simple design and allows in particular an easy handling of the cover of the hatch, comparable to the design and ease of known handling of tanks used so far.
The object of the invention is achieved by a tank formed by a cylindrical envelope, closed at its two ends, provided at the top with an inspection hatch comprising a cylindrical shell, seat with a cover.
According to the invention, the ferrule extends inside the envelope and, relative to the top of the envelope, at a level such that the upper surface of the cover defines a plane extending parallel to, and at the shortest distance possible from the top of the envelope, the shell being surrounded by a channel opening at at least one place on the envelope.
- the inspection hatch is lowered from the level defined by the top of the tank envelope. The fact that the shell of the inspection hatch extends essentially inside the volume defined by the envelope, makes it possible to place the upper surface of the cover, considered in the context of the present invention as the highest part of the inspection hatch, at the same level as the top line of the part of the tank envelope in which the inspection hatch is arranged. Thus, the maximum height allowed for a tank becomes substantially identical to the height of the top line of the tank envelope.
- the inspection hatch, and more particularly the cylindrical shell which forms the seat for the cover, is surrounded by a channel. The channel constitutes an empty space around the inspection hatch, which makes it possible to continue using simple means such as hinges for attaching the cover to the shell, and the means for closing the cover.
- the channel leads to the envelope. This arrangement according to the invention is advantageously obtained by choosing the depth of the shell such that the bottom of the channel, corresponding to a circle for a cylindrical shell of revolution, cuts the envelope at at least one place. Thus, the channel is open towards the envelope at this location or at these locations. The opening thus formed serves as a drain for rainwater or washing water entering the channel.
According to an ideal embodiment of the invention, the height of the ferrule is chosen so that the upper face of the cover and no other part of the inspection hatch are located at a level higher than that of the top of the envelope.
However, construction requirements such as the use of standardized parts, or the definitions of possible maximum height different from country to country the other, can lead to variant embodiments which deviate of the ideal embodiment described above in that the defined plan by the upper face of the cover of the inspection hatch extending parallel but at a distance from the top of the shell of the tank or of the part of the tank in which is located the inspection hatch. Of course, in accordance with the invention, this distance must be as small as possible, even negligible compared to the dimensions of the tank.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the depth of the inspection hatch shell is chosen so that that the channel is divided into two parts. According to this provision preferred of the invention, the ferrule of the inspection hatch is lowered inside the envelope, depending on the diameter of the ferrule and of the radius defining the curvature of the upper part of the tank, at a level such as the bottom of the channel, represented by a circle in the case of a cylindrical inspection hatch, cuts the tank shell in at least two places. This preferred arrangement of the invention provides the channel for two openings allowing flow to both one side and towards the other side of the tank.
According to a first variant, the ferrule is cylindrical with revolution and the channel opens in two places diametrically opposite on the envelope, these openings dividing the channel into two parts each of which surrounds less than half of the shell.
According to a second variant, the ferrule has a section non-circular cross-section, the longest axis of this section forming a non-rectangle angle with the longitudinal axis of the tank. According to this conception, which is conceivable for tanks whose inspection hatches must meet criteria specific and whose cover must also open in a direction different from that of the longitudinal axis of the tank, the channel opens in two places on the envelope, these openings dividing the channel into two non-symmetrical parts with respect to the longitudinal axis of the tank.
Regardless of a particular embodiment, the cover can be attached to the shell by a hinge and closed by quick closing means. It can also be both fixed and closed with a few quick fasteners.
The invention can be applied in two ways different. The first is that of being able to manufacture tanks whose overall height is reduced by the fact that the hatches no longer exceed the top of the tank. The second is that of being able to increase the volume of the tanks without increasing the current overall height of the corresponding tanks.
The object of the invention is also achieved by a tank vehicle comprising a tank having the characteristics described above.

The tank vehicle shown in Figure 1 consists of
