HOSE WITHOUT END WITH HELICOIDAL GROOVE.
A known method of manufacturing endless pipes consists of winding a strip unwinding from a rotating coil onto a mandrel., Pulling it over the mandrel, passing it through a rotating thread device, which consists of a mandrel and a mandrel. folding nut and thus form a helical groove on the pipe. It is also known that immediately after having thus formed a groove on the above-mentioned pipes, they are forced back so as to bring at least the sides of the helical grooves and bring them into partial contact. This upsetting operation makes the grooved pipe flexible.
The pipes thus produced give very good results in practice and serve as a major replacement as installation pipes for Bergmann insulating pipes and steel reinforcing pipes.
It follows from this operation of pushing back the grooves of these known pipes manufactured starting from a strip that the quantity of strip metal required is very considerable and that this consumption exerts a harmful influence on the weight and the price of the strip. pipe. However, it would be advantageous if it could be used in numerous applications. especially to form installation pipes to lay electrical pipelines, lighter and less expensive pipes. The invention overcomes these drawbacks.
The invention relates to an endless pipe with a helical groove manufactured by winding a strip on a mandrel., Which has at least one upset helical groove, extending over its entire width .. but the turns of which are separated by a portion. smooth not grooved.
Since the turns of the helical groove are separated by a smooth non-grooved portion, the weight of the pipe is significantly reduced and a serious saving in material is achieved. The mechanical resistance of the pipe is largely sufficient for the envisaged applications.
We are at the same., By choosing in an appropriate way the pitch height of the

helical groove and the number of grooves, to vary the flexibility of the pipe between extended limits. This flexibility is all the greater as the height of the pitch of the groove or grooves is smaller and as the number of contiguous grooves is greater. When these pipes undergo bending. smooth portions. Non-ribbed pipe wall remains straight and bending occurs in steps in the ribbed portions.
Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawing show two exemplary embodiments, in elevation in partial section., Of an endless pipe with a helical groove. obtained by winding a strip on a mandrina
The pipe of FIG. 1 has a wall 1c formed by wrapping a strip with overlap on a mandrel. A helical groove 2. extending over the entire length of the pipe, is formed by pushing in from the outside and forms an inner projection on the wall 1 of the pipe.
The height of the pitch of the groove 2 is chosen so as to leave between the turns of the groove 2 a smooth non-grooved portion of the wall 1 of the pipe.
The groove 2, which protrudes inside the wall 1 of the pipe. is particularly advantageous in pipes which must be covered with an insulating layer or providing sealing - for example polyvinyl chloride. synthetic resin or the like. because it forms an excellent support for this layer.
The pipe of FIG. 2 also comprises a wall 5 obtained by winding with covering a strip on a mandrel.
Two helical grooves 6, 6 ', extending over the entire length of the pipe, are pushed directly next to each other from inside out, so that they protrude outward on the wall 5 of the pipe. . As before, the pitch height of the grooves 6,6 'should be chosen so as to leave between the contiguous turns of the grooves 6,6' a smooth, non-grooved portion of the pipe wall.
The pipe of figure 1 could also have two or more contiguous grooves 2 instead of one and that of figure 2 could have only one instead of the two grooves 6,6 'or more.
The grooves are advantageously pushed back into the wall of the pipe by means of a rotary threaded device consisting of a mandrel and a bending nut or rollers arranged in a similar manner between which the pipe is passed in. strip unwinding from a coil and winding on a mandrel and which holds the hose wound on the mandrel.
The wall 1 or 5 of the pipe may be formed by a single strip. However, it is advantageous to form it by two or more strips. The strip can be made of metal, steel, iron, aluminum, track, or a material other than metal, for example textile fabric, impregnated or not. in gutta percha, paper, etc. It may also be advantageous to use one or two metal strips and one of a material other than metal for the construction of the pipe wall.
As has already been said. the pipe may also be covered with a coating of an insulating material or ensuring the seal.
