ENGRENAGE ;POUR LA TRANSMISSION, POUVANT ETRE'INTERROMPUE DE LA FORCE POUR VEHICULES MOTORISES ET INSTALLATIONS STATIONNAIRES DE FORCE
MOTRICE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

GEAR; FOR TRANSMISSION, ABILITY TO BE INTERRUPTED FROM FORCE FOR MOTOR VEHICLES AND FORCE STATIONARY INSTALLATIONS
MOTOR.
The invention relates to a transmission mechanism. more particularly a gear, of the kind fitted, in internal combustion machines, or the like, intended for controlling motor vehicles, motorcycles or the like. but can also be used in stationary machine installations. These gears used heretofore are affected by multiple drawbacks: speed subject to jerks, rapid wear, and nothing. name a few.
The gear according to the present invention is designed in such a way that the reduction, caused in the gears heretofore used by toothed wheels, is effected by means of a removable friction roller which presses against a roller. lower friction, which achieves the easiest engagement and disengagement and a jerk-free working speed.
To reach this stop, the two friction rollers are made of a different material. One of the two rollers is provided for example with a rubber friction surface. or the like, while the friction surface of the other roller is constituted, for example, by finely polished steel which has undergone a "super-finish".
The friction surfaces can also be made of other materials, but at least one of these materials must have a good coefficient of friction. It is a good idea to provide the hard steel surface for the small friction roller, and the rubber lining for the larger friction roller.
This combined action of the two friction rollers can be promoted in different ways, in order to achieve good absorption of the shock occurring during engagement. so that the clutch

and disengagement can be carried out without disturbance and without causing excessive wear.
All the additional details relating to the invention will emerge from the following description in combination with the drawing which represents several models of execution of the object of the present invention.
In the drawing: figure 1 shows a section along the line A, B, C of figure 2, figure 2 shows a section along the line D, E of figure 1, figure 3 shows the same section as figure 2 but through another embodiment, Figure 4 shows a vertical section through another embodiment.
figure 5 shows a section along the line D, E of figure 4, figure 6 shows a vertical section along the line A, B of figure 7, through another model of execution, figure 7 shows a section along the line C, E, D, F of figure 6, figure 8 shows a section through another model of execution along span A, B of figure 9, and figure 9 shows a section through model d 'execution illustrated in Figure 8 following the line C, E, D, F of Figure 8.
In the case of the configurations illustrated by Figures 1 to 5. the friction roller 3 is mounted in a fixed manner on the crank shaft 1 of the motor. The friction roller 3 is made of hardened steel. The outer surface of the crown is finely polished and has undergone a "super-finish".
The body of the roller 4 is made of light metal and its outer surface is provided with a rubber gasket. The friction roller 4 is mounted on the shaft 2 of the shaft gear eccentrically housed in the bearing 7.
By means of the spring 8 attacking the eccentric bearing 7. the latter is placed so that the friction roller 4 is pressed permanently against the friction roller 3. A Bowden traction 9 serves to put an end to this state, that is to say to perform the disengagement.
To do this, it suffices to maneuver the Bowden traction 9 slightly, after which the two friction rollers can turn freely.
In order to avoid as much as possible wear of the surfaces of the two friction rollers during operation and in particular during engagement, the rubber lining of the friction roller 4 is finely polished and the surface of the friction roller 3 is also polished; in addition, it underwent a "super-finish".
The two friction rollers 3 and 4 are surrounded by a protective body and rotate in a dry chamber 5. In this way, they are protected against any ingress of water. snow., impurities. or others.
This prevents slippage or excessive wear of the friction rollers.
If the gear is to be mounted in the internal combustion machine of a motor vehicle, automobile or motorcycle for example, the body 5 is provided with openings 10 for the entry and exit of air.
As illustrated by the arrows in the drawing, the penetration of air into the body 5 achieves efficient cooling of the gear and the entire body of the transmission mechanism. During normal operation, that is to say as long as the engine operates for example a motorcycle, the force of the crankshaft 1 of the engine is transmitted to the roller 4 by the gasket.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
friction let 3 controlled by this crank shaft; via pinion 23 and chain 13 .. force then actuates the rear wheel.
On the other hand, the wheel is rotated to start the engine: the chain actuates, via the pinion 23, and the shaft 2, via the friction roller 4, the friction roller 3, which starts the engine.
To make starting the engine easier, the two friction rollers are disengaged by the Bowden traction 9 until the wheel spins at the required speed, after which the two friction rollers are engaged.
However, as the shock caused by this clutch causes the two friction rollers 3 and 4 to slip, the friction roller 4 is provided with a return and the two springs 6, in order to attenuate the aforementioned shock and the sliding of the two. friction rollers 3 and 4.
Thanks to these measures; friction roller 3, made of hardened steel, outer surface of this roller hardened and having undergone a "super-finish", rollers 4, provided with a rubber lining, pulley also, return, wear is almost completely avoided very pronounced of the two rollers contrary to what occurs in the execution models known $ until now.
Figures 4 and 5 illustrate another configuration of the clutch: the friction roller 4 is not housed eccentrically, but in the arm 11 of a rocker which pivots around the bolt 12 and is permanently pressed against the roller 3 by the traction of the chain 13. The clutch is engaged and disengaged. apart from that, in the same way as in the case of the execution model corresponding to figures 2 and 3, by means of the Bowden traction 9.
In the case of the execution model corresponding to Figures 6 and 7, the transmission of force between the shaft 1 of the motor and the shaft of the gear is not effected by a flat contact between the two rollers. friction, but these are configured as grooved pulleys 15 and 16, in the groove of which is laid a V-belt 14. A spring 17 maintains the belt 14 under permanent tension. But, as in the case of the aforementioned examples, this tension can be relieved by actuating the Bowden traction 9, which slackens the belt 14.
Figures 8 and 9 illustrate another configuration of the gear: the transmission of force between the crank shaft 1 of the motor and the shaft 2 of the gear is also effected by means of a belt. trapezoidal 20. But the grooved pulley 18 is divided lengthwise into two parts pressed against each other, but removable. One of these two parts is fixedly mounted .. the other in an axially shiftable manner on the shaft 2. The half of the grooved pulley housed in a shiftable manner is permanently pressed against the other half of the shaft. the pulley., fixed half. by means of springs 19, guided by pins firmly inserted in the fixed part of the grooved pulley 18.
In the closed groove of the pulley 18, is placed the V-belt 20 which establishes the connection.
This clutch position can be brought to an end by means of a lever 22 in contact with the outer end of a rod 21. This rod 21 is housed in a manner allowing axial displacement in the shaft. 2 which is hollow. The other end of this rod 2L is oriented towards the shiftable half of the groove pulley 18. When the lever 22 is moved by means of a Bowden traction, or the like. against the pulley 18, the movable part of this pulley is separated from the fixed part. As this results in a widening of the groove, the V-belt 20 is now loose and the connection between the two discs 18 and 15 is interrupted; there is therefore a disengagement.
As regards the two models of execution comprising trapezoidal belts, the transmission can also be effected by means of two pairs of pulleys, each pair comprising a belt, so as to achieve a transmission with two different gear ratios. .
