<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

RE COLTEUS E OF POTATOES.
The present invention relates to a machine intended to be used for the harvesting of potatoes and other tubers of the same kind.
Its object is to provide devices by which it is possible to easily adapt the machine to the varying conditions which arise in practice and to ensure as complete a removal as possible of the soil so that the potatoes can be immediately set. in bag
This machine is characterized in that it has as essential elements a main frame having a front part cantilevered with respect to a carrying part provided with wheels for circulation on the ground, a front apron with adjustable inclination provided with A pulling device .. a second horizontal or substantially horizontal apron arranged in the extension of the first apron and at the rear usually a bagging device.
These different devices will be described below in an illustrative manner with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figures 1 and 2 are elevation and plan views, respectively, of the entire machine.
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the pulling device.
Figures-45 and 6 are detail views showing the construction of the inclined deck
Figures 7 and 8 relate to a clod-breaking device is provided with the inclined apron.
The machine shown in the drawings moves on the ground by means of two wheels 1 with pneumatic tires and comprises a main frame.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
cipal 2, part of which 21 is door-to-faxu
The wheels 1 are carried by axles 5 resting on an I-shaped bridge 3 which supports the frame 2 by angles (not shown) and flats 4 (fig. 1).
In general, the machine comprises a chain or an apron 6 inclined forward towards the ground in an adjustable extent and with which the lifting device cooperates $ a second chain or a second apron 7 following the first and arranged in a substantially horizontal position and a bagging device 8 provided at the rear.
The traction is preferably carried out using an agricultural tractor which carries a circle 9 in which are drilled holes 10 receiving pins or other fasteners engaging in an arm 11 formed by the frame 2.
The control device comprises a side shaft 12 driven by the tractor and connected to an "apple 13" (pin 2) producing the rotation of a main shaft 14 rotating in jib cranes 15 forming part of the frame 2.
This shaft 14 carries two pinions 16 for controlling the chain 6 and a chain wheel 17 driving by a chain 18 a shaft 19 parallel to the shaft 14 and used for controlling the chain 7.
At the front of the machine, an interchangeable spade 20 is provided which is fixed by means of bolts (not shown) to an angle 22, the ends of which are bent at 90, forming legs 23 (fig. 3) pierced with holes 24 for fixing in an adjustable manner by bolts 25 to plates 26 themselves provided with holes 261 and welded to angles 27 integral with the frame 2 or more particularly with side plates 28 between which moves the apron 6 which extends to the proximity of the spade 20.
Two knives 30 placed on the field are fixed to the angles 27 and $ in front of each of the latter. There is provided a part 31 ending in a point, which cuts a strip of earth of suitable width.
This strip is then detached and released by the spade 21 and is brought onto the apron 6.
A lifting device which will be described below makes it possible to adjust the depth action of the spade, but as already explained this depth can also be modified by the angle iron 22 in the form of a stirrup.
In addition, to the lower part of the knives 30 are fixed blades 32 by means of bolts 33 which engage in slots (not shown) formed in the knives 30.
These accessory blades make it possible to maintain a sufficient width of cut when the depth of action of the spade changes.
The lifting device comprises a sector 34 fixed to the main frame 2 and with which a lever 35 cooperates.
To this lever 35 is connected in an articulated manner a rod 36 to the front part of which is pivotally mounted a lever 37 rotating about an axis 38 mounted on the frame 2 and extending over the entire width. manager of the latter.
The lever 37 is hingedly connected with a yoke 39 pivotally mounted downwardly on a plate 40 pivotable about an axis 41 carried by an inclined arm 42 extending downward from the central portion. of box 2.
This plate 40 can thus slide downwards or upwards in an ear 43 of the frame 2.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
As shown in Figures 4 and 5 the chain 6 which moves between the side walls 28 in sheet metal is formed of links each comprising (Fig. 4-6) two end bars 44 rotating freely in nozzles 45 and an intermediate bar 46 welded to side cheeks 47 to which the nozzles 45 are also fixed by welding.
Each bar 46 is arranged such that the position of its lower edge corresponds to the position of the upper edge of the two neighboring nozzles 45.
The ends of the bars 44 are threaded and receive nuts 44
Thanks to this construction, there is an opening between each bar through which clods of earth can fall.
The chain 6 is guided in its upper path by oval-shaped wheels 48 mounted on free axles 49 rotating in ball bearings 50.
These oval wheels determine a shaking of the chain.
The lower strand of chain 6 is guided by wheels 51 mounted on free axles 52.
In the event that the clods of earth are not removed by the shaking, there are planned, above the oak tree, clod-breaking devices and for this purpose, from distance to distance, in the walls 28 are formed openings receiving axes 53 (pins 7 and 8) threaded at their ends in order to receive nuts 54 On these axes $ are slid flat bars 55 which fold upwards and carry a counterweight 56 at their end.
These flat bars extend downwardly by bolts 57 each to a hardwood slat 58 resting on the chain.
These slats act, as will be understood. ,, so as to crush the pieces of earth under the effect of the pressure produced by the counterweights 56.
Chain 7 is constructed in the same manner as chain 6 except that its width is approximately twice as wide and that it usually has intermediate cheeks 47 'similar to elements 47 (pin 6A).
As already said, the chain 7 is controlled by the axis 19 and its upper strand passes over sprockets 59 located on the axis 19 and on the axes 60 and 61.
The axis 60 is set in motion by a chain 62 and in turn drives the axis 61 by a chain 63.
The lower end of chain 7 runs on three toothed wheels 64 wedged on an axle 65
The chain 7 moves between sheets 66 and its purpose is to carry out additional sieving of the soil before bagging.
An important fact is that chain 7 moves in the same direction as chain 6 and that its leading edge is a few centimeters lower than the end of the chain: 6
At the end of chain 7, the potatoes fall into a hopper 67 divided into two compartments, one of which is always closed by a hinged valve 68.
The bags which are being filled rest on a board 70.
When a bag is full, it is removed, the valve 69 is closed and an empty bag is placed under the other compartment.
This board 70 on which can be two workers responsible for bagging is hinged (in 71) on the main frame. It is raised for road traffic.
Two other workers may be on side boards.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
rales 72.
Four workers are therefore sufficient to operate the machine.
