INTERRUPTEUR A RUPTURE RAPIDE.

tails du mécanisme commandant le déclenchement automatique de l'interrup- teur;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

QUICK BREAK SWITCH.
The invention relates to switches for electric current of high intensity, and has as a particular object the production of a double and rapid break switch, of simple and economical construction, intended to be placed, preferably, in a housing. protection optionally constituting an oil bath, said switch comprising safety means for automatically controlling the triggering of the switch, when the housing cover is removed and the locking means intended to prevent, normally, the switch will be reset when the switch box cover is removed.
By way of example, one embodiment of the invention will be described below, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the switch according to the invention, shown in its tripped position, the switch protection box being shown in section;

details of the mechanism controlling the automatic triggering of the switch;
Fig. 7 is a view of a detail of the control mechanism of the switch.
As shown in the drawings, Figs. 1 to 3, the movable contacts 10 of the switch are fixed by means of nut screws 11, on a plate 12, of insulating material, guided to slide on guide rods 13 so that the plate is moved in parallel itself with a view to engaging the knives 10a of the movable contacts 10, in the clamps 14 of the fixed contacts 15. The latter are mounted on insulating plates 16, supported by a frame forming the base 17 of the. light switch.
The parallel movements of the plate 12 are effected against the antagonism of springs 18, interposed between said plate and the base 17, by means of toggle joints 19. The latter comprise an arm 20, made integral with a shaft. control 21, and a connecting rod 22, articulated on the one hand at 23, at the end of the arm 20 and on the other hand at 24 on the plate 12.
The switch is preferably housed in a sealed housing 25 with a removable cover 26.
The shaft 21 of the switch is rotatably supported in uprights 27 integral with the base 17 and is maneuvered from outside the housing 25, using a handle 28, fixed to one of the arms of a leviez elbow 29. The other arm of this elbow lever pivots in an opening 30 formed in the side wall of the box 25 and is provided, at its end opening inside said box, with a sleeve 31. This sleeve (Figs) . 1 and 7) freely engages the end 32 of the shaft 21 and is provided with two diametrically opposed longitudinal teeth 33 which, when the handle 28 is moved angularly about its pivot axis, act on a pin 34 fixed diametrically in the end 32 of the shaft 21, to drive this shaft by imparting to it an angular movement in a corresponding direction.
To engage the switch, the handle 28 is imparted an angular movement directed in the direction of clockwise, which movement is transmitted, by means of the shaft 21, to the arm 20 of the joint. toggle 19.
The arm 20 of each articulation 19, in its movement, acts on the plate 12, by means of the connecting rod 22 of these articulations, to force this plate 12 downwards (by looking at FIG. 2), along the edges. guide rods 13, progressively compressing the springs 18, while the knives 10a of the movable contacts 10 engage in the clamps 14 of the fixed contacts 15 (Fig. 3).
When, by the angular displacement of the arm 20, the center of articulation 23 of each toggle 19 comes to exceed the line of symmetry XX which passes through the axes 21 and 24 (Fig. 3), the movement of the kneepads is stopped by stops 35, fixed on the uprights 27, against which the connecting rods 22 'come to rest. The action on the handle 28 can then be interrupted, while the plate 12 remains blocked in its closed position of the contacts 10 and 15, under the effect of the tension of the springs 18 which constantly tend to push the joint 23 towards the left, looking at Fig. 3, i.e. against the stops 35.
To trigger the switch, it suffices to impart to the handle 28 a slight angular movement, in the opposite direction to that printed for the closing of the switch, so that the teeth 33, of the sleeve 31, by acting on the ankle 34, drive the latter as well as the shaft 21 and the toggle 19, to bring the point of articulation 23 to the right side of the line of symmetry XX. At this time, thanks to the angular travel
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
As possible, between the teeth 33 and the pin 34 (see Fig. 7), the plate 12 is violently pushed upwards (looking at Fig. 3) under the action of the springs 18, while the contacts 10 -15 are suddenly separated and the various elements of the switch return to the position shown in FIG. 2.
The switch mechanism which has just been described is combined with safety means which produce the automatic tripping of the switch in the event of the housing of the apparatus being opened.
For this purpose, to the inner face of the cover 26 of the housing 25 of the apparatus, is fixed an element 36 having an extension 37, provided at its end with a lug 38 which extends longitudinally in the housing 25, so that, when the pin 34 is in the position corresponding to the engagement of the switch, as shown in FIG. 6, and if the cover 26 is raised, this lug 38 abuts against said pin in order to impart to the latter a sufficient angular movement to produce the triggering of the switch.
In order to prevent the switch from being engaged when the housing 25 of the apparatus is open, the invention provides a locking device comprising a pin 39 intended to engage automatically in a diametrical opening 40, formed in the shaft 21 (Fig. 4) in order to prevent rotation of the latter, when the cover 26 of the casing 25 is removed or is in a raised position (Fig. 5). Pin 39 is integral with a rod 41 which slides. longitudinally in a pad 42, integral with the upright 27. The rod 41 is subjected to the action of a spring 43, interposed between the pad 42 and a guide fork whose arms 44 extend on either side of tree 21.
When the switch housing 25 is closed, the end of the arms 44 comes to rest on the element 36 integral with the cover 26 of said housing, but as soon as this cover is raised or removed, the locking device 39 -41-44 is forced upwards, by the spring 43 (see Fig. 5), while the pin 39 engages in the opening 40, preventing the rotation of the shaft 21, under the control of the handle 28 and, consequently, the engagement of the switch.
When closing the cover 26, the element 36 thereof comes to rest against the ends of the arms 44 by pushing them back and releasing the pin 39 from the opening 40, so as to allow new the rotation of the shaft 21, under the action of the handle 28.
It should be noted that the arrangement of the switch mechanism in the housing 25 is such that it is possible to submerge the contacts 10 and 15 in an oil bath covering them, without fear of flow. liquid, the opening 30 of the control member of the housing being above the level of said contacts.
On the other hand, the copper pads constituting the contacts 10, fixed on the movable plate 12, can optionally each be divided into two separate sections joined together by means of a removable fuse 45 (Fig. 2) retained by the nuts 46 for fixing these contacts on the plate 12. The replacement of these fuses can be carried out easily and without danger, the said contacts not being subjected to the action of the electric current during the opening of the; light switch.
It is understood that the invention is not limited to the shape and the arrangement of the elements of the switch as described and illustrated in the drawings, but that many constructive modifications could be made to it without departing from the idea of invention.
