IMPROVEMENTS, AT THE REAR-SEAT, OF AUTOMOBILES.

The present invention relates to automobile bodies comprising a luggage compartment behind the rear seat of the vehicle. Its object is a device allowing the rear seat to be moved forward temporarily when it is desired to increase the capacity of the boot.

According to the invention, this device comprises on the one hand two mobile consoles which are placed in the extension of the seat of the rear seat cushion to support the cushion in the advanced position and provided with nipples or the equivalent to retain the rear seat cushion. cushion in this position, and on the other hand two mobile shelves placed one at the top in the extension of the existing fixed shelf and the other at the bottom in the extension of the bottom of the trunk, to serve as support for the backrest of the advanced seat.

The mobile consoles are advantageously pivotable so that they can be folded laterally against the seat cushion of the seat cushion when the latter is moved back to the normal position, the folded consoles then being concealed by the overhanging front edge of the cushion and held in place by their nipples engaged in the cushion.

As for the mobile shelves, the top one is removable and, to be able to move the seat back to the normal position, this shelf is removed, for which a housing can be provided under the front seat, while the lower shelf is raised. , hinged on the bottom of the boot, behind the backrest
Two movable armrests intended to fill the gap between the wheel arches and the forward rear seat cushion, and which can be placed in the rear trunk when not in use, complete the device.

The appended drawing shows by way of example one embodiment of the invention.

Fig.-l shows schematically in longitudinal section, the rear of a motor car equipped with the device according to the invention, the rear seat being in the normal position.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

Figo 2 is similar to Fig. 1, but shows the rear seat in the forward position.

Fig. 3 is a partial plan view of the rear seat cushion in normal position, and Fig. 4 is similar to Fig. 3, but shows the cushion in the forward position, with a movable armrest in place.

1 designates the luggage compartment of which it is desired to be able to increase the capacity by moving the rear seat made up of the cushion 2 and the backrest 30
To do this, the seat can be moved from the normal position shown in FIG. 1, in the advanced position shown in FIG. 2, provided that the cushion 2, which is then cantilevered on its seat 4, is provided with suitable support at the front, and the backrest 3 with firm support at the rear.

On the front face of the seat 4 are fixed two sockets 5 serving as staves for two pivoting consoles 6 which, in the normal position (Fig. 1), are folded against the seat, under the edge of the cushion. To support the latter in the forward position (Fig. 2), the consoles 6 are brought into the extension of the seat by pivoting and they are wedged by engaging in holes in the underside of the cushion, pins 7 whose consoles are provided and which at the same time serve to retain the advanced cushion.

Behind the forward backrest 3, a removable upper shelf 8 is placed which is fixed using springs 9, 10 in the extension of the existing shelf 11, and it is lowered in the extension of the bottom 12 of the box 1, a lower shelf 13, articulated at 14 on the base 12. These two shelves 8, 13 support the forward backrest in the same inclination as in the normal position. To return to the normal position, it suffices to remove the shelf 8 which is stored in a housing provided under the front seat (not shown) and raise the shelf 8 which is then kept raised by a hooking tab 15 behind. headquarters.

Figo 4 shows a movable armrest 16 which is placed between the advanced cushion 2 and the wheel arch 17 to fill the void caused by one notch in the cushion at this location.

It is clearly seen in FIG. 2 the increase in the capacity of the trunk 1 which is obtained by moving the seat forward. The forward position of the seat also improves visibility through the rear door opening for the occupants of that seat.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the details of execution which have been described and shown by way of example and one would not depart from its scope by making modifications thereto.
