PERFECTIONNEMENTS A LA FABRICATION DE FILS TEXTILES N0- @ TAMMENT EN VERREo
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

IMPROVEMENTS IN THE MANUFACTURING OF TEXTILE YARNS N0- @ TAMMENT IN GLASS
The present invention relates to the manufacture of textile yarns.
It is known that in the manufacture of yarns made from continuous fibers of textile materials, these fibers are generally, during their transformation into or handling in the form of primary yarns, coated with a substance having lubricating properties to facilitate sliding. fibers relative to each other, and binders to ensure the grouping of the fibers This substance, usually referred to as the size product, is generally constituted by a solution, a dispersion or an emulsion, in particular in an aqueous medium .
These primary yarns are wound in the form of a coil and it is necessary that these windings be subjected to drying so that the yarn can be unwound with a view to subsequent operations, such as in particular twisting.
It has been observed that one of the essential factors for the success of the unwinding operation is the achievement of a good drying of the windings, regular and homogeneous, ensuring the maintenance of the turns in their place.
In practice, in order to carry out such drying, ovens heated to a temperature of 35-40 C and comprising a ventilation system are used, in which the windings of threads are kept in place. as long as necessary.
The Applicant has observed that such a process does not practically make it possible to achieve uniform drying of the coils and in particular leads to difficulties when it is necessary to place coils of substantially different thicknesses in the ovens. Windings
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of thinner thickness are, in fact, dried too quickly and undergo too prolonged drying causing hardening of the wire which results in poor detachment of the turns of the wire during unwinding and can cause the formation of hairs on the wire. the finished threads.
Windings of greater thickness are, on the contrary, insufficiently dried and have a very hard layer on the faces while the inside is still wet, which may subsequently entail the obligation to remove the winding from the loom and to proceed. to a new passage to 1-, oven.
The object of the method according to the invention is to remedy these drawbacks. This process consists in carrying out an individual drying of the windings of threads or wicks during unwinding by a heating action which is exerted on the threads or wicks when unwinding, in particular on the turns of the windings as and when they are discovered by the course of the preceding turns.
The particular object of the invention is the application of this process in the manufacture of strands formed from glass fibers, the latter possibly being continuous or discontinuous.
The process according to the invention firstly makes it possible to eliminate the drying ovens and the conditioning of the atmosphere during the twisting operations. On the other hand, the threads or locks of the layers of the windings being dried as they are unwound, it is possible to obtain good drying whatever the weight of each winding. This eliminates the need to sort the windings according to their thickness, allows the use of windings of greater thickness and therefore limits downtime and reduces material waste.
As the drying takes place in a more regular manner, in particular turn by turn, the winding does not deform on the spinning machine, in particular the twisting machine, which allows a greater margin in the ratio between the speed of the winder and the speed of the crimping device when making up the winding and facilitates the unwinding of the threads. Finally, the uniformity of the drying limits the risks of breakage and allows a significant improvement in the quality of the yarn.
All suitable devices can be used for carrying out the process according to the invention.
When the unwinding of the windings is carried out from the inside, use is made, according to one embodiment of the invention, of a device constituted by a waxy support passing through the winding, this hollow support comprising internally means such as an electrical resistance, allowing heating inside the winding. The temperature rise imparted to this heating means is preferably determined so that it is just sufficient to dry the inner turns facing the support as they are discovered by the unwinding of the previous turns. .
Apparatus conforming to this device may consist of a support of suitable material on which the winding is placed, while inside this support are placed one or more electrical resistors mounted on one or more insulating plates, which are themselves fixed to the plate holding the support.
In the case where the unwinding takes place from outside the winding, heating means will be used in accordance with the invention to act on the outside of the winding. These heating means can be constituted, according to one embodiment, by heating members, such as electric resistances, arranged annularly around the winding.
The process according to the invention can be applied to the drying of the yarn during its transformations, on the very apparatus where it is used.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
undergoes these transformations, in particular on the twist.
It should be understood that the present invention is not limited to the devices which have just been given simply by way of example but that it can be implemented according to numerous variants relating in particular to the heating means. used for drying the windings, as well as their arrangement with respect to said windings.
In particular, in the case where the unwinding takes place from the inside, it is possible to place electrical resistances in direct contact with the support passing through the winding or even to arrange this support so that the electric resistances are arranged. in the thickness of said support.
