ABAT-JOUR PLISSE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
La figure 1 présente un abat-jour,, selon l'invention, monté sur un support ordinaire;
La figure 2 est une deuxième forme avec un anneau mobile infé- rieur ;
La figure 3 est une troisième forme dans laquelle l'anneau mo- bile est remplacé par un cordon et où il est fait usage d'un autre support;

PLISSE SHADE.
The present invention relates to a lampshade, which can, for example, be made of rigid paper; in parchment or artificial fabrics.
The lampshades of this kind, known until now, are placed on supports made of metal wire and consist of two rings linked with buttresses and giving the shape of a cylinder or a truncated cone. The folds of lampshades of this kind, known until now, have cutouts, which correspond with one of the rings of the support.
In addition, they are provided with a channel, passing all the pleats and through which a cord is drawn, which serves to fix the shade to the support This fixing is very difficult, because 1-'on can only fix with difficulty the shade in the right position at the same time that it is necessary to tighten and tie the cord. The invention consists of a pleated shade, which remedies this defect and which is characterized by an elastic cord, passed through the holes or cutouts made in the shade.
This cord is used to fix 1-'shade on the support By this means, the fixing is very simple, the support can be fixed on a socket or on a floor lamp.We first lace the elastic cord, then., 1 the lampshade can simply be pressed against the supporta whereby the cord tightens and clamps the lampshade to the holder.
For fixing the lampshade in the holder. For fixing the shade in the desired position there can be cutouts in the pleats, which can grab one of the rings of the support. The elastic cord can, for example, be made of rubber possibly with textile covering. , or consist of a coil spring, made from very fine steel wire of reduced diameter In this simple form, a pleated shade, produced according to the invention, can be used with most brackets known and the lampshade is very easily placed or removed from the holder.
The invention allows the use of a special holder, consisting of a single ring fixed to the lamp socket or which is suitably arranged, to be placed on the frame carrying the holder. A lampshade pleated in this advantageous way, must have; in the pleats,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
cutouts or protrusions, serving for placement on the aforementioned ring .. and other cutouts or protrusions for fixing a movable ring., so that the latter, in connection with the ring firstly city and the elastic cord .. fixes the shape of the lampshade.
In this way, the rigid connection between the two rings is avoided and the support can be manufactured more economically. Packaging and shipping costs are considerably reduced and shadows are avoided, which the links between the two rings would cast on the shade.
According to a variation which best suits this embodiment, a lampshade of this invention has for the attachment of the movable ring, certain cutouts or protrusions on its exterior surface, while the cutouts or protrusions serving to the addition of the support ring are on the inner surface, between the two first-named cutouts or projections and the holes or cutouts for the addition of the elastic cord. In this variant the outer ring must be made of metal wire or it can be replaced by a cord.
By using external rings of different diameters or by changing the length of the cord, the shape of the shade can be varied, since the angle produced by the truncated cone is changed.
If the outer ring or cord is movable, ie made so that it can be placed or removed, the inner ring is more easily placed on the side where the elastic cord must not pass. Likewise when it is in place, one can easily tighten this side and by tightening this side, the attachment points between the shade and the inner ring serve as gyration points. Then the outer ring or the cord is put in place. The latter could therefore be pulled forward through a channel placed in this side of the pleats.
If the outer ring is solid, for example made of metal wire, or if the movable ring is placed inside, a lampshade according to 1-'invention, can have several series of cutouts or projections for the addition. ring, support or movable ring. In this way, the shape of the truncated cone of the shade can be changed, without changing the diameters of the rings.
Some embodiments, given by way of non-limiting example, are shown in the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 shows a lampshade ,, according to the invention, mounted on an ordinary support;
Figure 2 is a second form with a lower movable ring;
FIG. 3 is a third form in which the movable ring is replaced by a cord and in which use is made of another support;
Figure 4 is a fourth form where the movable ring is placed on the outside.
In the drawings, the following references designate? (1) a lampshade., (2) an elastic cord for fixing the lampshade. This cord is put through the cutouts, (3) in the pleats of the lampshade. The lampshade is mounted on a support (4) of ordinary type, which consists of two rings (4 & 5) linked by spacers (6). The ring (5) is linked by stiffeners (7) to a ring (8), which fits the rings (9) of an ordinary frame. The lampshade (1) can receive cutouts (10) for one or for both rings of the support.
In the way shown in figure 2, a special support has been used, which consists of a ring (11), linked by stiffeners (12) in connection with a ring (13), which fits to the ring (9) of an ordinary frame. The shade has internal projections (14) to support a movable ring (15), which in connection with the ring of the support (11) and the Horn-

elastic gift fixes the shape of the lampshade.
In the way shown in Figure 3, another type of support was used, consisting of a ring (16), which is linked by means of stiffeners (17) to a box (18) intended to be placed on a lamp socket. ordinary, Through a channel (19) 9 which is on the same side of the elastic cord (3) as the ring (16), a cord (20) is drawn, which serves to fix the shape of the lampshade in connection with the ring (16) and the elastic cord (2). '
In Figure 4, the cord (20) is replaced by a fixed ring (21) retained at the top of the shade by means of the projections (22).
The shade still has different cutouts (10) for addition of a ring (16) In this way the outer shape of the shade can be changed by moving the ring (16) in a series of cutouts to another.
CLAIMS.
