<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

ARMED BAKELISE PAPER TUBE AND ITS MANUFACTURING PROCESS.
Many uses are known of bakelized paper tubes, obtained by winding around a sleeve, a sheet of paper, previously coated with a suitable product, passing in the oven and then removing the sleeve; these tubes are light and perfectly cylindrical, but they do not present, unfortunately, for mechanical uses, qualities of rigidity and sufficient resistance.
The present invention obviates this drawback; has for object a reinforced bakelized paper tube, and its manufacturing process. According to this method, the tube is obtained by incorporating a very thin metal sheet during the winding of the sheet of paper.
In any event, the invention will be well understood with the aid of the following description of an embodiment of the invention.
The tube is formed by a sheet of bakelized paper wound first on itself, then with the interposition, between the different layers of said sheet, of another very thin sheet, of steel for example, of which the winding can begin after the beginning of the winding of the paper and stop before the end of its winding so as to benefit fully from the technique and from the presentation of a cylinder of bakelized paper as regular as possible.
It is, of course, possible to obtain the rigidity, strength and weight desired by dosing the incorporated element: this can, moreover, be other than steel, and its quantity and its nature are a function of the particular qualities desired for the cylinder.
Finally, the incorporated element may be constituted by a continuous or discontinuous strip both in the longitudinal direction and in the transverse direction; it can also be arranged in a helix, be crossed or otherwise.
Cylinders are thus produced which have a flexural strength much greater than that of a cylinder made of bakelized paper, conventional

of the same thickness, while retaining the advantage of having all the qualities of bakelized paper on the outside, qualities appreciated in particular for handling artificial textiles.,
This is how beams for weaving looms and especially beams for high-speed warping machines can be formed which require the use of perfectly balanced cylinders.
The invention is not limited, of course, only to the data which have been indicated above by way of examples; on the contrary, it extends its field of application to any cylinder made of reinforced bakelized paper, with a view to obtaining better mechanical strength, whatever in particular the nature and the arrangement of the sheet serving as reinforcement.
