<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Fig. est une vue en plan correspondante.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Improvements made to prestressed concrete"
The present invention relates to prestressed concrete and aims to establish means for anchoring the pre-tensioned reinforcements of such concrete.
As is known, prestressed concrete elements, such as beams, columns, piles, sleepers and tubes consist of concrete in the state of longitudinal compression due to the fact that the longitudinal reinforcing wires or rods of these elements have been maintained in the state of longitudinal elongation during the setting of the concrete in which they are embedded, in the case where the latter has been applied in the fresh state. To ensure the stretching or the tensioning of the reinforcements and to anchor them to the ends of the concrete mass, it has already been proposed to wind the reinforcements around rigid transverse devices, such as bars, located at both ends of the concrete mass, reinforcements
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
being stretched by increasing the distance between the two cross devices.
The present invention more particularly establishes means and a method for anchoring the ends of wires or stretched reinforcing rods, which wrap around rigid transverse elements for prestressed concrete.
For this purpose and in accordance with the invention, each end of a wire or of a reinforcing rod intended for a prestressed concrete object, and which is wound on a rigid transverse element, is clamped between this element and a surface integral with a member which ensures the stretching of the frame. Thus, the member which stretches the frame, or which maintains it in the stretched state, clamps the end of this frame and prevents the latter from slipping or unwinding from the transverse element. For example, a loop-bent reinforcing wire is wound around the convex, outwardly facing surface of a strong crossbar of semi-circular section, provided inside each end of the mold for concrete , the wire passing for example three times between the two transverse bars and ending on one of them.
Each end of the wire, after having gone around the convex surface of the corresponding transverse bar, extends essentially between the flat surface oriented inwardly of this bar and a plate or the like placed behind a nut screwed onto the rod or the bolt which passes freely through the crossbar and the corresponding end of the mold. The tension held in the wire by the bolts at both ends of the mold also acts to clamp the ends of the wire between the plates and the respective crossbars.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, some systems for clamping the ends of stretched reinforcing wires in molds for prestressed concrete. In these drawings:
Fig. 1 is a broken longitudinal section of a mold for

concrete, fitted with devices for tensioning longitudinal reinforcements for concrete.
Fig. is a corresponding plan view.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 1, but showing a variant.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of one end of a mold, showing a variant.
Figs. 5 and 6 are longitudinal sections, on a larger scale, of alternative clamping devices for the armature wire.
Referring more specifically to Figs. 1 and 2, a denotes a mold for concrete intended to be prestressed in the direction of compression by embedding therein wires 12 held stretched in the mold while the concrete sets.
To tension the wires b, they are folded so as to wind them on transverse bars c of semi-circular section, one of which is located at each end of the mold and which are spaced so as to stretch the wires b which s 'extend between them. Each of the transverse bars c is mounted on a longitudinal bolt d which crosses it freely, as well as the respective end wall a1 of the mold a The wires 12 are put under tension by hydraulic jacks a bearing on a yoke f through which the bolts pass d provided at one end of the mold, these bolts ending in heads d1 on the outer face of the yoke f After the fila has been put under tension by the jacks e this tension is maintained by tightening the nuts g on the bolts d.
To prevent the wires b from slipping while unwinding from the bars c the ends of each wire 12 wound on a bar c are clamped between the latter and a plate h. interposed between the flat surface of the corresponding bar c and a nut i screwed onto the bolt d of this plate transmitting to the wires 1 the tension applied by the bolt d.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The example of Figs. 1 and comprises four wires 12 in the mold a with provision for two bolts, and two crossbars c at each end of this mold, one wire being located on each side of each bolt d These wires therefore comprise a strand at each end of this mold. above the crossbars c and a strand below them, so that the ends of each wire are at the same end of the mold a ...
In the arrangement according to FIG. 3, each wire 1 has three strands between the two ends of the mold, so that each wire h has two strands above the bolts and one strand below them, and the ends of each wire b are located at opposite ends of the mold a. In order to ensure an even distribution of the tension between the single strand of wire passing below the bolts and the double strand extending above the latter, the bolts d are located so as to pass through the bars c closer to double strand than single strand.
As shown in Fig. 4, the bars c instead of being of semi-circular section, may have a crescent or semi-tubular section, the end of the wire b then being clamped between the concave rounded surface of the bar c and the convex surface, opposite to the first, plate h
The b wires called to be energized. are folded beforehand so as to present the shape of a loop necessary for their engagement on the bars c and between them; these threads can generally all be bent using a suitable folder, so that they are all the same length, with a very slight difference likely between all the threads in a series.
In order to compensate and balance such small differences between the lengths of wires on either side of opposite bolts d, the holes provided for the bolts in the Q bars converge towards the nuts i, as shown. in Figs. 5 and 6, so that the bars c are susceptible to an angular offset.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The plates h may bend when exerting the clamping effect on the wire ends b To prevent, in this case, the clamping effect is reduced or becomes ineffective on the outer faces of the two wire ends b the surface of the bars c may be provided with grooves intended to receive the two wire ends on their oblique flanks, these ends emerging from each groove j, as shown in FIG. 5. The two ends of wire 12 move automatically and mutually so as to undergo a uniform clamping notwithstanding the curvature of the plate h
After the concrete has set, the bolts d are unscrewed from the eorous i and removed. The holes left in the concrete in this way can be filled with fresh concrete.
The cross bar shown in the drawings may have other shapes than those shown. For example, for the tensioning of wires in prestressed concrete objects which have a substantially circular cross section, such as piles and hollow pillars, the bar can be constituted by a ring.
It is not essential that the wire drawing device, consisting of the bars ± and the bolts d, be located inside the mold. Bars and bolts can be arranged outside the ends of the mold. In this case, the wires are cut at the ends of the concrete object after the latter has set.
Instead of pouring concrete, or all of the concrete, around the tensioned reinforcements, one or more pre-cast concrete elements can be inserted between the anchoring devices, which elements keep these devices apart by bracing. after partial release of the tensioned reinforcement, the arrangement being such that the pre-cast concrete strut bears against the clamping plate and brings
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
this one to further tighten the reinforcing wire. Such concrete struts or struts can be more or less tabular and more or less surround the reinforcements under tension. The spacers are inserted in the dry state and can be reinforced by the addition of fresh concrete or cement milk in order to embed the stretched reinforcement.
Concrete elements, whether they are cast around the stretched reinforcements, or inserted in the dry state as pre-cast elements, can be arranged in such a way that after the concrete has set or, in In the case of pre-molded elements, after they have been fitted, the tensioning bolts and nuts can be recovered. The cavities thus updated can be plugged with fresh concrete.
The invention also applies to concrete elements prestressed using high tensile steel, subjected to an initial tension substantially greater than or equal to the elastic limit of normal mild steel, or else to concrete elements prestressed with ordinary mild steel.
