<EMI ID=14.1>
<EMI ID=15.1>
<EMI ID=16.1>

Compressed air cocking and trigger mechanism
for toy guns.
The present invention relates to an arming mechanism
and compressed air trigger for toy guns, for example
for pistols and guns for children and the like.
The arming and trigger mechanism according to the invention
is essentially characterized by the fact that it includes
a chamber and means suitable for effecting in this chamber the compression of the air and its expulsion in order to obtain the effect of a gunshot, during the normal maneuver of the trigger. Such a mechanism does not require a special operation to cock the toy gun.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
compression and expulsion cause the compressed air to act on a strip of solid material, of sufficient thickness to allow perforation. The material employed may advantageously consist of paper, but other materials suitable for bursting could also be employed, among which may be mentioned suitable synthetic resins or the like.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the compression and expulsion means cause the compressed air to act on small projectiles of suitable shape and material, arranged in a magazine which may be of the usual type.
The appended drawing, given by way of example, will make it possible to better understand the invention, the characteristics that it has and the advantages that it is likely to provide:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of a toy gun according to the invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of a detail of the pistol of FIG. 3 is a section along III-III (fig. 1), the line <EMI ID = 2.1> axial section. Fig. 6 is a schematic plan view of an execution detail of FIG. 5.
In fig. 1-4, the pistol according to the invention comprises a housing composed of two half-housings 1, 1 ', enclosing the cocking and trigger mechanism. In fig. 1 is shown

place of the nipples it has holes intended to receive these. The arming and trigger mechanism comprises a cylinder 3 inside which moves a piston 4 formed of two plates 5 and 6 between which is blocked a leather lining 7. The rod 8 of the piston 4 is provided with a notch 9 in which engages a grooved roller 10 mounted at the end of a lever 11
<EMI ID = 4.1>
is rotated in 12 on a sector 13, consisting of a sheet <EMI ID = 5.1>
tier 1 and constitutes the trigger or actuator of the gun. The lever 11 is held in contact with the piston rod 4 by a spring 15 and it cooperates, by means of a heel 'il', with a stop and click rod 16, while the sector 13 cooperates with a corresponding abutment surface 17

is inserted between the piston 4 and a partition 19 of the gun frame, which extends to form at the same time

at the opposite end a rubber lining 24 capable of pressing against a flat face 25 formed on a

<EMI ID = 11.1> 29, 29 'suitably separated from each other to increase the elasticity of the small blocks themselves. In this way when they are applied against the strip of paper the small blocks flex, reacting by elasticity against the strip itself.

the roll from which the tape unwinds. This store is provided with an opening 34 which can be closed by an arched flap 35 provided with a small operating lever 35 'and sliding between suitable guides 36 and 36'.
The operation of the gun described is as follows:
The roll of paper or the like is introduced through the window 34 into the magazine 33, 33 'and one end of the strip is passed along and upwardly of the face 25, taking the precaution of compressing at a small angle the operating sector 13 or to move the lining 24 of the cylinder 3 away from the flat face 25 to thus allow free passage for the strip. This is then returned along the upper surface of the gun
<EMI ID = 14.1>
at the same time bringing sector 13 to its end of travel
<EMI ID = 15.1>
below the guide plane. Then the sector is returned to the rest position shown in continuous lines in FIG. 1. the pistol is then ready for firing.
By grasping the gun and pressing with the fingers on the sector 13, the latter rotating around the pivot 14, causes the pivot 12 of the lever 11 to turn which, given its connection with the rod 8 provided by means of the roller 10 , causes the displacement of said rod and consequently that of the piston 4 to the left against the spring 18. The friction existing between the piston 4 and the cylinder 3 being greater than that existing between the cylinder itself and its housing 22, the cylinder is therefore moved to the left until it meets the stops 23, 23 '. At the same time the two small blocks of
<EMI ID = 16.1>
of paper or the like which bears against the guides 31, 31 '. As the movement of sector 13 continues, piston 4 continues to move to the left, further compressing the spring
18 in which a certain amount of potential energy is stored. After a certain displacement, which can correspond to approximately half of the stroke, the small rubber blocks are located to the right of the part that is separated from the guides.
31, 31 'which then no longer entrain the strip of paper. In this way, the distance between two perforations of the strip relative to the stroke of the piston is reduced to the essential minimum. Maximum use is also made of the paper strip, obtaining as a firing result the highest possible number of shots with respect to a given length thereof.
A few degrees before the end of the angular travel of sector 13, which ends when this sector strikes against the stop surface 17, the heel
11 'of the lever 11 bears against the stop rod 16. The profile of this heel 11' and the position of the rod 16 are studied in such a way that a small rotation of sector 13 causes a strong rotation of the lever 11 on its pivot 12, which releases the roller
10 of the notch 9. The rod 8 is thus released and the spring
18 triggers the piston 4 to the right. During a very short part of its stroke the piston drives the cylinder 3 with it until the gasket 24 blocks the strip of paper against the flat face 25. From this moment the piston, continuing its stroke, compresses l air inside cylinder 3.
As a result, the air pressure is also exerted on the lining 24 by perfectly pressing the lining itself.
<EMI ID = 17.1>
of paper breaks, at some point producing a true <EMI ID = 18.1>
tion of rest takes place under the action of the spring 15. During this return stroke the roller 10 runs along the rod 8 until
<EMI ID = 19.1>
in the part shown in broken lines, during this
<EMI ID = 20.1>
free the paper strip.
By pressing sector 13 again, the described cycle repeats itself and so on until full use of the paper roll. As already said, the strip to be perforated can be made not only of paper, but also of another suitable material, for example a suitable synthetic resin.
Instead of making the compressed air of cylinder 3 act on a strip of thin material, its effect can be used to expel small projectiles from the pistol.
In fig. 5 is shown by way of example a pistol in which this variant of the invention is implemented. In this figure, opposite the cylinder 3 is arranged a drum magazine 37 carrying holes along a circumference. 38 (see detail in fig. 6) in which small projectiles 39 can be placed. The rest of the pistol is identical to that described in fig. 1-4 and, considering the action of compressed air, this gun works the same, but compressed air instead of serving to puncture a strip of thin material, is here used to expel a by one the projectiles 39 of the respective holes 38.
The jerky rotation of the drum 37 around its own axis 40, obtained automatically after each trigger, can be carried out in any suitable manner, for example by means of a toothed wheel and pawl mechanism, not shown. Of course in this case we dispense with the drive and guide members of the perforable strip.
As can be seen in the present description of the two embodiments of the invention, the cocking and trigger mechanism according to the invention has the great advantage over known mechanisms for cocking and triggering with compressed air, allow the arming of the compressed air and its subsequent use for the trigger in a single operation and precisely by the simple maneuver of triggering the weapon. In addition, the mechanism according to the invention has the advantage that the cylinder is movable in its housing and comes to be blocked, when
the trigger against the strip of paper by the pressure of the air itself, which makes it possible to eliminate any movable member outside the casing of the gun, except the shutter and the piston rod.
Although examples of application of the invention to pistols have been described, it is easy to understand that the described mechanism for cocking and triggering with compressed air can be applied to any other type of weapon. toys, such as small cannons, rifles, machine guns, machine guns, etc ... by making the compressed air act on a strip of puncturable material or on small projectiles.
It must also be understood that the above description has been given only by way of example and that it in no way limits the field of the invention from which we would not depart.
by replacing the details of execution described by all other equivalents.
