Device for projecting small projectiles by compressed air. The present invention relates to a device for projecting small projectiles, preferably spherical or of suitable shape to pass through a round hole, by compressed air which can be produced by any suitable means, such as bellows, bulb, piston pump. , compressed air cylinder or simply by human breath.
This device is characterized by the interposition of at least one elastic washer having a hole of smaller diameter than the projectiles between the source of compressed air and at least part of a guide barrel. According to one embodiment, the device comprises a breech, in which is formed a chamber receiving at least one projectile to be projected, this breech having two opposite openings, one opening into the guide barrel and the other communicating with a source of compressed air, then, around the opening opening into the barrel, a shoulder against which the elastic washer bears.
This cylinder head advantageously takes the form of a cap nut screwed onto a boss integral with the guide bush or attached to the latter, this nut tightening directly or by means of rigid washers from the periphery of the elastic washer con said shoulder, and this nut having on the outside, around its opening turned towards the source of compressed air, a funnel-shaped or bowl-shaped cavity facilitating the introduction into the chamber of the cylinder head of the pro jectiles contained in a store.
The projectiles used can be very small, such as shotguns: they can be stored in bulk and. in large quantities in the compressed air production system to obtain a prolonged shot.
The device can be realized in the form of various toys, such as pistols, rifles, mini-bars, etc., as well as in the form of weapons for parlor shooting, exercise, or even offensive weapons.

The device shown in FIG. 1 consists of a breech 1 having a conical cavity 2, communicating with a cocking chamber 3, in which is pressed a rubber membrane 4, forming a ron delle pierced with a hole 4a, less than the diameter of the projectile ; this membrane is placed between another washer 5 and a ring 6. The assembly is held in place by a barrel tube 7, in one or more parts, one end of which is screwed or fixed to the cylinder head by any suitable means. Compressed air is produced, for example, by human breath.
The breech 1 can be connected to a compressed air producing system forming part of the device in which the projectiles have been placed in bulk, without any prior storage. Fig. 2 shows such an embodiment, in which the compressed air is supplied by a rubber bulb.
To launch the projectile, it suffices to tilt the apparatus loaded with projectiles in the direction of arrow h '(fig. 2) to cause a projectile P to penetrate into the weapon chamber 3 (fig. 1. ), whose dimensions only allow the introduction of a single projection and whose conical cavity 2 is intended to facilitate entry.
When the projectile is in place, the apparatus is raised and the other projectiles fall back into the rubber bulb; it is pressed to obtain compressed air. Under the pressure of the wedged air, <B> - </B> the projectile comes to rest against the hole 4a of the membrane 4 and plug it.
As soon as the pressure is sufficient, the pro jectile moves aside and distends the edge of the hole in the membrane on the ring 6. This ring is provided with a hole of suitable diameter, the inner edge of which is rounded so as not to damage the membrane during passage of the ball.
The projectile then enters the tube 7 and is thrown with all the more force and as much as the membrane has offered more resistance to its passage, taking into account, of course, the pressure that can give the compressed air generator unit to create the determined resistance of the membrane to the passage of the projectile.
It suffices to repeat these maneuvers consecutively to obtain a rapid and long shot until the projectiles are exhausted.
Fig. 3 is a variant in which the device has the form of a cigarette holder 9, manufactured in two pieces. It is powered by compressed air from the smoker's lungs. To camouflage the tube 7, the latter can pass inside a pierced cigarette 10.
The pro jectiles are placed in a chamber 11, fitted in the cigarette holder around a tube 12, intended mainly to direct the blown air towards the cylinder head and in front of the pro jectiles in reserve, this to prevent the projectiles are drawn into the breech by the air circuit which would exist inside the chamber if the blown air arrived behind said projectiles. The end 12a of the tube 12 is slightly tapered and of a diameter smaller than that of the projectiles, so that the latter cannot pass through the end of this tube when the apparatus is examined or handled during the course. dismantling or cleaning.
For firing, the launching device shall be placed in a horizontal position or at suitable degrees of inclination to obtain an ascending or plunging shot.
lia fig. 4 shows another embodiment, in which a dummy cigarette 13 is pierced in its length and serves directly as a launch tube; this tube is screwed to the cigarette holder and it maintains inside the latter the prison 6 and the membrane 4, by means of parts 14 and 1 <5. In this embodiment, this. The machine does not have a reserve projectile chamber. The cocking chamber consists only of the conical countersink at the front of the breech.
In addition to a simplification of execution, this also makes it possible to increase the manufacturing tolerances and to facilitate the adjustment and the assembly in the event that the hole in the duct and that in the cylinder head after assembly are not exactly aligned.
Here, the shooter has the projectiles in the mouth and can launch them one by one or in bursts if, beforehand, he has introduced one or more pellets, through the tongue, into the mouth 9n of the milled duct. for this purpose.
Fig. i represents a small simplified device, which one conceals in one's mouth by holding it with the 16 teeth and by blowing out one by one the projectiles which one has in the mouth.
Fig. 6 shows an alternative embodiment whose outer shape imitates a pisto let. This device is actuated by a rubber bulb 17, which is in communication with a circular chamber 18 and a chamber 19 for storing the projectiles P.
In order to reduce the volume of the projectile storage chamber 19, the too large size of which would result in a reduction in the compression ratio, depending on the volume of the bulb 17 and that of the storage chamber <B> 19 , </B> one can advantageously dispose under said chamber a mobile case 27, screwed or stamped directly sir the stopper to hermetically close the projectile storage chamber.
The interior of the case can also be used as a reserve for projectiles.
Oven allow the passage of air coming from the bulb, the part 26a of the cylinder head 26 is machined. facets, as shown in fig. 7.
It will therefore suffice, as for the previous embodiments, to tilt the revol ver to cock the breech with a projectile and to press on the rubber bulb to project it far away, according to the same device. membrane already described.
In another embodiment, the launchers can be housed inside a pipe (fig. 8 <B>) </B>, in order to enable the smoker not only to smoke with an ordinary pipe. I still wanted to project for fun. small projectiles.
The pipe shown in fig. 8 and 9 est. hollowed out internally to allow lo ger, not only the described launchers, but also a part pierced with several holes 21, which can be closed by a valve \ 22 when blowing into the pipe and which are released when sucks.
It will therefore be easily understood 'that, when the smoke from the pipe is drawn in, it will pass through the holes 21 of the part 20, then into a chamber'? 4 and, finally, through the tube <B> 25; </B> we can therefore smoke as with an ordinary pipe. 5i, on the contrary, we want to throw projectiles that we will have put in the chamber 24, it will suffice to tilt the pipe so that a single projectile enters the breech 1 through the conical orifice 2 and comes to lodge in the cocking chamber. 3.
At this time, if the smoker blows into the pipe, the projectile will be thrown far away through the diaphragm 4, while the valve 22 will close the holes 21 of the part 20, so that there is no loss of pressure and that the breath does not break up the tobacco from the pipe.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 10 to 14, the pistol comprises a molded body, for example made of light metal, comprising the butt 31, a barrel casing 32 and a trigger guard 33. A bore 34, made in the butt, serves as a magazine containing the projectiles 35 , which can be there in large numbers, for example 500 small round pellets. This magazine is closed at its lower end by a stopper 36, having a thread 37 screwed into a corresponding thread of the body <B> 31. </B>
The barrel 38 is held at its anterior end in the casing 32 by a plug 39, with thread 40, screwed into an internal thread of the anterior end of the casing 32. The anterior end of the barrel 38 has a conical part 41, engaging with a corresponding housing of plug 39 to ensure its centering (fig. 13).
At its rear end, the barrel 38 is integral with a collar 42, coming to bear, by means of a sealing washer 43, against a shoulder 44, formed in the casing 32. Beyond this shoulder, the barrel 38 has a sleeve 45, terminating in a threaded part 46. The bore of the barrel die signed by 47 is flared at its rear part in the sleeve 42, to present a frustoconical part 48 and an enlarged cylindrical part 49. An elastic membrane 50 is placed against a shoulder 51, formed between the cylindrical part 49 and a cylindrical part of larger diameter 52.
The membrane 50 is pierced with a central hole 53, of smaller diameter than the spherical pellets 54, constituting the projectiles. A ring 55, delimiting a loading chamber 56, is placed in the cylindrical part 52. Finally, the end of the cylinder head 46 has a thread, onto which is screwed a nut 57, closed at the rear by a wall 5T, pierced with a central opening 58, of a diameter slightly larger than that of a lead 54. The wall 57 'has a certain concavity, facilitating the guiding of the pellets towards the hole 58. The wall 57' nut 57 is advantageously knurled to facilitate its unscrewing.
The rear part of the body has an opening for mounting and loading projectiles 59, the cylindrical wall of which is threaded and into which a closure plug 60 is screwed.
The stick 31 has a housing 31 ', of suitable shape to receive a bulb 61, the open circular edge 6i' of which is introduced by simply fitting into a groove 62 of a button with two cones 63, crossed by an axial channel and ending in a screw 64, being screwed in a tapped hole in the molded body of the gun, the end of the channel passing through the button 63 opening into the compression chamber 65, in which the nut 57, screwed on the cylinder head.
Following the modification of FIG. 10a, the screw 64 ', formed on the button 63, is of significant width, so as to form at the end of this button a plate 166, which can. be covered with a gasket material 167 and forming a seat for a valve, such as the ball 168, urged by a spring 169, bearing on a shoulder 170 of the body. This valve prevents the return of air from the chamber to the bulb.
The manufacture and assembly of this gun is particularly easy. It suffices, in fact, to introduce the barrel 38 provided with the one shown in FIG. 11 in the bore of the molded body until its collar 42 bears, via the seal 43, on the shoulder 44. The plug 60, provided with a sealing washer, is then screwed into place. . To load the weapon with projectiles, it suffices to unscrew one of the plugs 36 or 60, and, after having introduced the projectiles into the bore 34 or 65, to replace the removed plug. Finally, the button 63 of the pear is screwed into the body comprising, for this purpose, a tapped hole. In order to graduate the propulsive force of the projectile, membranes 50 of various flexibilities can be used.
It is also possible to selectively place one or more membranes of given flexibility in the loading chamber, to graduate the resistance of these membranes and, consequently, the compressed air pressure generated behind it before the projectile can pass through these membranes. , which has the effect of regulating the force with which it is. powered. This will be explained in more detail later. To cock this pistol, that is to say to bring uir projectile into the loading chamber, it suffices to lower it to the position shown in FIG. 12, so that a lead 35 enters through the hole 58, drilled in the middle of the wall <B> 57 '</B> of the nut 57.
When this lead is introduced into the loading chamber 56, the weapon is straightened. To shoot, the fingers of the hand holding the gun are inserted into the bulb 61, so that the air expelled by the latter generates a compressed air pressure in the chamber 65, in the magazine 34 and in the chamber 56 , by pushing the lead introduced 54 against the hole 53 of smaller diameter of the membrane 50. When the air pressure is sufficient to overcome the resistance of this membrane, the lead cracks the edges of the hole of the latter and passes through it. , The air accumulated behind it assuring its propulsion.
The stoppers 39 and 60 can advantageously be made of plastic, while the body 31, 32 is, for example, molded from light metal.
According to a variant shown in FIG. 15, a plug 66, of transparent plastic material, replaces the plug 60. It is thus possible to see the pellets 35 inside the chamber 65, making sure that the weapon does indeed contain projectiles.
According to fig. 16, a movable rise 68 is fixed by means of the screw 67, which, provided with a suitable cone, fits instantly into the rear recess of the plug 60. FIG. <B> 1.7 </B> represents the rear part of a rifle, the barrel 70 of which is supported in a casing 77, in a manner substantially similar to that of the pistol described above; however, the tightening of the seal 44 'is effected by means of the spacer 40', pushed by the screwed cap 40. A nut 72 contains a loading chamber 73, in which the elastic membrane 74 is placed.
A chamber 75 contains the projectiles 76 and communicates, by channels 77, normally closed by a valve 78, with a pressure chamber 79. The latter communicates with the cylinder 80 of a pump by a channel 81, provided with a check valve 82. A piston 83 slides in the cylinder 80 and is integral with a rod 84, emerging from the butt 85 and carrying a movable butt plate 86. A collar 87, provided on the rod 84 and pushed by a compression spring 88, provides automatic suction by pulling the piston 83 back, when the shoulder is moved away from the bed plate 86. The valve 78 has at the end of its rod a. button 90, which can be attacked by a rod 91 serving to lift the valve 78 from its seat.
This rod carries an operating pushbutton 92 and is normally pushed back by a spring 93.
To use this rifle, after having introduced a projectile into the loading chamber 73 by tilting the weapon forward, it is sufficient to shoulder with the butt plate 86, then to draw the butt 85 to is done a number of times, so that the piston 83 delivers compressed air into the chamber 79 through the channel 81 and the check valve 82. Then, after aiming, the shooter presses the button 92, which has the effect of lifting the valve 78 from its seat. The compressed air contained in the chamber 79 then passes through the channels 77, passes through the chamber 75 and enters the chamber 73, where it forces the projectile 94 through the hole 95 of the ron delle 74, then ensures its propulsion.
Figs. 18 and 19 show a variant of the gun of FIG. 1.7, in which the air generator device is the same. This rifle includes a body 96, in which the compression chamber 79 is fitted. This body has at the front a threaded part 97, into which a breech 98 is screwed, having a tubular part of lesser diameter 99, forming a loading chamber, widening at the front to form a shoulder 100, against which the elastic ron delle 101 is applied. The front end of the yoke 98 is both threaded and threaded.
The barrel 102 is screwed by a threaded expansion 103 in the thread of the breech 98 and a casing 104 is screwed by its rear end threaded on the thread of this breech.
The front end 103 'of the barrel may have a portion of larger diameter serving as a sliding guide in the front end 104' of the casing 104. A sleeve 1.05 is disposed in the interior of the body 96 so as to turn around the cylinder part 99 of the cylinder head forming the loading chamber. This sleeve has -an opening 106. Two seal washers 107 ', 107 "seal both sides of this sleeve, rotating tuna. The hole leaving the opening 106 in the sleeve 105 is threaded and the end thread 108 of the neck of a store 109 is screwed into this hole.
The body 96 internally has a wall 110, on which the valve 111 rests, closing the compression chamber 79; a spring 112 pushes the valve 111 against its seat.
This valve comprises a hollow rod 113, pierced with a ring of orifices 114 for the air passage. The rod 113 projects into the part of the body 96, in which the smaller diameter end 107 of the cup extends, which is profiled as indicated at 107 ', so as to form a cam.
This weapon works as follows. Air pressure is generated as in the case of fig. 17. To cock this rifle, it suffices to operate the projectile tank 109, in the manner of a movable breech of a rifle, by imparting only a rotational movement in the direction of anti-clockwise. to bring it above the rifle in the position shown in solid lines in fig. 18 and 19. In this position, the projectile 115 falls, through the opening 106 of the breech 99, into the loading chamber 116 of this breech.
The magazine 109 is then lowered by turning it clockwise. During the rotational movements, the sleeve 105 is driven, so that, when the magazine 109 is lowered, its solid part closes the opening 106 of the breech and, consequently, the loading chamber 116. In this way at the same time, the end 107 ', forming a cam, of this man chon strikes the rod 113 of the valve 111, which is lifted from its seat, so that the compressed air stored in the chamber 79 passes through the holes 114 , then by the vagaries of its rod 113 and of the sleeve 107 to the firing chamber 116, in which this compressed air acts on the projectile 115 to make it pass through the hole of the elastic washer 1_O1 and propel it.
To avoid an untimely maneuvering of the magazine 109, a stopper member, such as the elastic wool 117, cooperating with a stop 118 can be provided thereon. To lower the magazine 109 to the starting position of the blow , it is necessary to press on the blade 117 to make it pass behind the stop <B> 118. </B> If the breech is rotated so accidentally without pressing the elastic blade 117, this blade meets the stop <B> 11.8, </B> so that the magazine cannot come to the starting position of the stroke.
The dotted line is shown on the. fig. 19, at 109 \, the position of the magazine after loading a projectile and closing the loading chamber prior to firing and, at 109 ", the position of the magazine when the shot is fired. As can be seen, the ends 119, 1.20 of the arcuate slot formed in the body 96 of the weapon form stops delimiting the two extreme positions of the magazine 109.
In the variant of FIG. 20, the construction is the same as in fig. 18, except that the end of the sleeve 107 does not form a cam. In this case, the maneuver of the store 109 is only used for loading. The stroke is started by means of a trigger 121, actuating, by an arm 1.22, a pusher 123 ,. guided in a bore 124 of the body 96. The bevelled end of the pusher 123 acts on the hollow stem 113 of the valve 111 to lift the latter from its seat. A compressible washer 125, tightened by a packing gland cap <B> 126, </B> ensures the seal around the tappet 123.
lia fi-. 21 shows a cigarette holder similar to that of. fig. 3. The body is. composed of two elements 126, 127, screwed onto a connector 128, inside which is screwed the enlarged posterior part 129 of a barrel tube. The loading chamber 131, closing the resilient washer 132, is analogous to that of the preceding embodiments. Magazine 133 is formed in the <B> 126 </B> part of the body.
With this cigarette holder, a former 134 is used, formed on a tube of light cardboard or other combustible material 135, exifying on the end of the tube-carion 130. Holes 136, drilled in the tube 135 , also allow the aspiration of the smoke, so that the barrel tube 130 is always extended by a free part of the fuel tube 135, which allows. the safe launch of the pro jectiles, the 1.35 tube being consumed. inêine time than the cigarette.
lees fig. 22 to 29 illustrate various means making it possible to vary the force of projection in the same weapon or other device for launching projectiles, by doing so. vary the resistance of the spring washers.
According to fig. 22, a single spring washer 137 is placed in the loading chamber 138, in which it rests against a shoulder .139 of the cylinder head 140, similar to that used, for example, in FIGS. 18 to 2.1. A tube-eanon 141, screwed into this cylinder head by an enlarged part 142, makes it possible to compress the elastic washer 137 more or less.
In the position of FIG. 22, in which this washer is practically not compressed, the projectile has to overcome in order to cross it only its elastic resistance determined by its thickness, on the one hand, and by the ratio of the diameter of the hole 137 '; the washer in relation to the diameter of the projection, on the other hand.
On the other hand, according to the. fig. 23, the washer 137 is strongly compressed by the part 142 of the barrel against the shoulder 139 of the breech, so that a bead 137 "is formed, which offers increased resistance in itself and which, moreover, decreases. the section of the hole <B> 137 ', </B> these two conditions having the combined effect of considerably increasing the resistance opposed by the elastic washer to the passage called the projectile.
Thus, with a given elastic washer, it is possible to vary, in a continuous manner between two minimum and maximum limits, the resistance opposed to the passage of a projectile and, consequently, the force with which it is projected. It is obvious that one. could place two or more washers side by side instead of just one and exert on all of these washers the same low-pressure compression effect as that described in the subject of. single washer 137. <I> -A </I> Using the button 103 ', formed at the end of the barrel and being able to be knurled, it is possible, from the outside, to turn the barrel and screw more or less the boss 142 to adjust the pressure of the washer 1.37.
Figs. 24 to 27 illustrate - The other mode <the graduation of the resistance opposed to the wise pitch of the projectile and, consequently, of the force of projection of the latter in the same breech. The loading chamber formed between the breech 1.43 and a cap 144, screwed onto it, and comprising the funnel 145, with hole 146 for introducing the projectile 147, contains a certain number of spring washers 148, 149 , 150, metal spacers 151, 1 <B> 5 </B> 2 and a metal washer 153, designed to receive a projectile.
In the position of FIG. 24, the three spring washers 148, 149, 1.50 are. placed side by side, forming a thick layer of elastic material, which the projectile 147 must pass all at once.
In the fib. 25, only 148.149 spring washers. are contiguous, then they are separated, by the spacers 151, 152, from the third spring washer 150, so that the projectile 147 must first pass through the washer 150 and then simultaneously the washers 149, 148 .
In the case of fig. 26, the three spring washers are separated by the two spacer washers, so that the projectile 147 has to pass successively three times the resistance of a single washer.
In fig. 27, the spacers 151, 152 are placed next to the washer 153, which increases the capacity of the loading chamber, which thus receives two projectiles 147, 147 '. The three spring washers are placed side by side.
Figs. 28 and 29 illustrate a variant of this method of graduation of the resistance opposed by an elastic washer and of variation of the capacity of the loading chamber. In this case, the cylinder head 154, with cap 155, contains a spring washer 156, three metal spacers 157, 158, 159, the holes of which have different diameters, and three loading chamber washers 160, 16l., 162.
- In the position of fig. 28, the elastic washer is placed behind the 1.59 spacing washer having the hole of smaller diameter, so that it is strongly held by the large surface of this washer and opposes a strong resistance to the passage of the projectile 163. In fig. 29, on the contrary, the washer 1.56 is placed behind the spacer washer 157, having a hole of larger diameter, so that it is only kept bare on its periphery by the latter and that it opposes , consequently, to the passage of the projectile only its own elastic resistance.
It would also be possible, to obtain an intermediate degree of resistance, to place the middle washer 158 against the elastic washer 156.
Likewise, in the case of FIG. 28, a single loading chamber washer 162 is placed behind the elastic washer, leaving a loading chamber which can only receive a single projectile 163. In the case of FIG. 29, the three washers 160, 161, 162 are placed side by side, which allows the introduction and simulta neous projection of several projectiles, such as 163, 164, 165. One could as well compose the loading chambers as of two ron delles 161, 162 for the projection of two projectiles.
These examples are not, moreover, limiting and one can. provide, in a single cup, any desired number of elastic washers, spacing washers and projectile reception washers, so as to interpose them arbitrarily, on the one hand, to scale the resistance against the projectiles, and, on the other hand, to determine at will the number of projectiles launched simultaneously.
The invention makes it possible to produce projection devices having very diverse shapes, such as canes, cigarette holders, pencils, pen holders. The launchers can also be concealed in an article of clothing and a rubber bulb can be operated from a pocket, this bulb being connected to the barrel by a rubber tube. It is also possible to produce real offensive or hunting weapons, by providing washers of sufficient force and a corresponding compressed air pressure. The same device can be used for various purposes simply by graduating the resistance of the elastic washers by one of the means described.
